This is the GWS Mock Draft order for the GWS Board Mock Draft.

Reminder, we'll select 3 rounds - as we get close to that (after a number of bids & matches, the last 'third round pick' will come earlier, I'll assess where we actually finish.

Reminder to tag me into any trades, bids & matches, and I will update the draft order after any bid matches (with an explanation of the matching cost & impact on draft order - based on my imperfect understanding of the AFL rules!). Also tag the next poster once you've selected your player.

I will pin this post & also update selected players as I can.

JUst whilst we are waiting i may as well get you guys opinion on my selections in the Richmond mock draft in which i am selecting for the giants. Tell me what you think and how i have selected and i have 1 pick left to go (#61 currently) On the type of player i should be looking at

2. GWS - Aaron Cadman 196cm 91kg KPF
17. GWS - Matthew Jefferson 195cm 84kg KPF
22. GWS - Olli Hotton 182cm 80kg Mid/Forward
23. GWS - Lachie Cowan 187cm 81kg Mid/Defender
34. GWS - Max Gruzewski 193cm 84kg Key Forward/Defender
37. GWS match bid for Harry Rowston 182cm 81kg Midfielder
61. GWS - Archie Lovelock 178cm 72kg Small Forward/Midfielder

Im thinking a small mid/fwd or a mobile Ruck

Opinions ?

Hmm, 3 talls is very ... tall.

Definitely go for a small, quick forward. I guess most of the strong ones are gone (Clarke, Konstanty, Long, Burgiel) but is Seth Campbell still on the board?

Just by-the-by, I doubt we'd go for both of the prime KPFs in this draft in Cadman & Jefferson. While I do have a second KPF spot available in the squad IMHO, I would have gone small forward at #17 (Charlie Clarke or Jacob Konstanty) rather than Jefferson. Or if we did select Jefferson, I doubt we'd also go Gruzewski at #34. Barnett might be the other option at #23 (rather than Lachlan Cowan), covering the ruck option with forward and back potential.

Anyway, not that we'll be taking 7 selections at the draft, but go small forward.

IMHO.

Gruzewski I see more as a 3rd tall intercepting defender
Jefferson was selected for 2 Reasons 1. Best available (draft for talent ) 2. Himmelberg as a free agent could end up at the Tigers with Jack retiring and taranto/Hopper having medals around their necks end of 2023 will persuade him ;)
I have a smokie for a small foward/Mid and i Love lock him at GWS (If you know who i mean)
Plus Olli Hotton is a Very very good small foward / Mid

Most BF boards will run them, but really, they are designed for that club's fans to participate. So, I would assume that Essendon's BF Board has had or will have a mock draft, though I would presume a selector position for one of the clubs is probably at a premium given the number of fans on the site. However, some boards (probably more likely the smaller boards, such as ours) are happy to have outside participation to spread the load and get possibly more of a local insight for those selections.

The Draft & Trade Board also runs a mock draft, but the official one uses posters who are known "draft watchers" who provide insight throughout the year on underage prospects. Others run minor mock drafts on there, such as Go Saints' current draft. Realistically, you've just got to be closely watching the board around this time each year, and when they ask for interest ... jump in an ask to pick for the Bombers.

It's a bit late this year for us since we're half done, but next year come on and chat about trade and draft stuff with us towards the end of the season and we might be willing to let you select in our mock draft next year.

for sure thanks im not usually one to comment i usually just read but i do follow the draft heavily all year

Sydney take the big risk/reward selection in Brayden George .
Without the injury, no way is he available.
Think his future is in the forward line.
Super athletic goal kicker, those guys are valuable.
Sydney with the bunch of kids can afford to take a risk on this one

It will be fascinating to see where he goes in the real draft. I agree that without the injuries this year, he'd likely go earlier, but lack of game time in his draft year probably does hurt him. We'll see which club has the courage to grab him early.

Back to sydney_gws for the next two picks by GWS.

I guess we'll likely see those in the morning.

I wonder if we'll pick him up with 18 or 19 if available.
Reckon there is a chance we do that.
I think Sydney can most afford.the risk given they have 2 rnd 1 picks and stacks of top kids already on the list (hence my selection)

Personally i think he goes to North with the pick #23 they just traded in from the Crows

For the next 2 picks, GWS select
Lachie Cowan from Tasmania
Coby Burgiel from Vic Country. He is a versatile mid/ forward, both areas of need for us.

#pmbangers is up for West Coast now.
Cowan was already taken

PMBangers PM'd me his list of choices for West Coast Eagles because he's out today.

He's upset (on Eagles' behalf) that Hollands went last pick.

Pick 13 - West Coast Eagles - Ed Allan

A dual sided and big bodied player, Allan has made the most of his limited exposure in 2022 to show off high-end athleticism and versatility.”

STRENGTHS:

  • Acceleration
  • Consistency
  • Two-footed
  • Upside
  • Versatility

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Composure
  • Strength

Pick 14 is Melbourne's, which is PMB again. I'll give him an hour to see if gets back on-line before I execute his instructions.

Stay close GWS Goose as Sydney will be on the hook around 5pm, and sydney_gws GWS will be after that!
Look certainly not the biggest fan of Allan, but it's hard to deny his potential given his athleticism and frame. I ultimately think he's gonna be an Eagles player come November 28 and was happier going for accuracy rather than what I'd do personally, he may even be who the Eagles take at 8 if all is to be believed. Busslinger was the main guy I wanted for them here, but this will do
Pick 14 - Melbourne - Matthew Jefferson

“A tall prospect with enormous upside, Jefferson’s range and mobility make him an aerial threat who needs few opportunities to impact each game.”

STRENGTHS:

  • Aerial ability
  • Mobility
  • Overhead marking
  • Scoreboard impact
  • Upside
  • Versatility

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Set shot consistency
  • Strength

Melbourne's weakness is in its forward half. Notwithstanding having just re-signed Jacob Van Rooyen, the Demons would be pleased to have another developing tall forward on their list. I'll leave PMBangers to further expand on this selection.

Pick 15 is up, so GWS Goose selecting for Sydney Swans.
Pretty much what GS said, even woth Van Rooyen there's an alarming lack of young KPFs at the dees, and past that even their older guys are just pretty average overall, so Jefferson makes sense from that perspective and as a best available. I think woth how JVR works up the ground it'll allow Jefferson to do what he does best and sit close to goals and kick loads of snags.

I did try to trade up for Hollands for the Dees as I think his style on the wing really suits their game plan, and think if given the opportunity Hollands ends up better than Langdon, but just as happy with this

Pick 22 - Elijah Hewett

Between Hewett and Hotton for me here and the WA factor gives Elijah a slight edge. Powerful burst midfielder that tackles hard and can start his career as a half forward, again addressing the midfield need at West Coast pretty well. With Hewett and Mackenzie locked in, if all goes well that's a damaging inside duo for over a decade to build around in up coming drafts/ trade seasons

GWS Goose up now

Hewett at this pick is quite a bit lower than I think his quality suggests ... just a BF Board mock, but it could happen (as per Roberts last year). WCE would be excited to get that midfield locked in!

(I'd have to think that in this case, GWS would look very closely at him rather than say Coby Burgeil for the previous pick.)

Bulldogs a little light on in defence, so I've opted to go Lewis Hayes for them.
I saw someone opt for Sam Taylor as his plays like, if it works out that way they'll be happy.

Now I’ll be bidding for Alwyn Davey Jr.

Over to sydney_gws to match.
