Gil and AFL time to part ways

Great post. One of the only mature, sensible ones in this thread. You clearly understand how the real world works; how corporate landscapes work.

People forget that he was being offered millions to run the NRL and Liverpool at the same time the AFL CEO job came up in 2012. The AFL didnt just pick him because he was there.

It's often said that Gil was "groomed" by Demetriou for the role. Is that like a pedo grooming a victim? Demetriou's record post-AFL ain't good.

Even for the Hocking role, the touted are already in-house. The AFL is xenophobic by definition. WTF are they afraid of?

Its a big social club with 18 members visiting occasionally, those in the backyard more regularly.
Not a good example the grooming.

Any independent voice in the AFL clubhouse might suggest something so sensible it's silly. The AFL is scared of reality checks, rationalisation and any redirection of resources from the feeding trough under docklands stadium to things like grassroots footy or state leagues.

You think we are just anti-Vic but some of us are independent enough to see through the blinding lights and want it run better and fairer. But that ain't happening. Too many VFL fatcats nodding at each other in the echo chamber for anything sensible, let alone suggesting some fresh leadership from outside the purple circle. Can you imagine?

its at this point we should note the number of members of the AFL Commission that are from or based interstate, including *checks notes* one Gillon Mclachlan (SA), where his uncle, Ian Mclachlan was the head of the SACA and a former Howard defence minister.

Not to mention Richard Goyder, Helen Milroy (both WA), and Gabrielle Trainor (NSW).

They are all, and particularly Gillon, fully inducted and paid up members of the VFL/aFL cartel.

Besides the problem isn't with the commission per-se it's with the management. The commission is like a board of a listed company, full of half interested celebrities and retired bankers who only care about the executive summary, the balance sheet and the temperature of the Hors d'oeuvres and cheeseplate at the board meetings.

I agree Gil is money his whole basis has beenTV rights more income and now towing to the politically correct which has led to contact dropping therefore stopping in TOO many contests with petty free kicks. So intent on TV audiences BUT seeing it so wrongly that many thousands and thousands of users of TV get to see the confusion and miscalculation the wrong calls made or calls that Don"t warrant penalties. Big or small changes have turned our sport under Gil's watch and Demitriou too a basketball foul styled adjudication and no matter how good it looks when we get to finals the horrible useless unfair over killed rules mess the game the momentum killing for teams we have all seen it Some ignore and take it, most who really know football are mystified lots of times with the comments everywhere "what was that for?".Every week every game some worse then others frees we don't understand rules we can't gather why they were even introduced Really games can be changed by decisions that are so greyed by rules fiddling AND ALL UNDER GILS Watch and Demitriou we can blame for expansion dilution after North and Footscray would not play his game he begins the introduction of money devouring new plastic clubs and gives us TOO MANY TEAMS! Dilutes the standard down and almost gives us the VFA all over again with more than one division. That's Gil McGlachlan to me and AD before him grand ideas no proper preparation as is visible every week lower scoring less skills, and a rules committee to cover up the bad parts they've created over 15 years or more.
So yes Gil goes or gets made to go.Hiw you do that in a dictatorship well who knows but it should happen He may have tried hard but no. One can tell me that the game has not gotten worse with penalties and whistles that's Gil's doing and the sychophants who work under him or on Fixfooty although good blokes they toe the line because they are in cushy well paid easy work?
Did anyone actually get to the end of this?
It's like Kerouac after a lobotomy.

Gales resume is very well rounded.

Obvious strong experience inside the game with his leadership of Richmond and the AFLPA before that.

Strong Business background outside of football.

Real world experience as a solicitor with a highly rated multinational law firm.

Additional executive leadership and ethics related qualifications topped off with Harvard business school.

He’s also a Tasmanian which might help some of those with Vic favouritism concerns.

Seems well respected by the football community in clubland and you would think he would get support. The only bloke that the rumour mill says doesn’t like him for the job is the bloke that currently has it.

As good as Gil has been the covid thing and all. I feel he would be burnt out. 2022 methinks there with be a new AFL CEO

Grow a brain and follow.Although???? Maybe there's nothing to grow.I generally don't punctuate to see if you people can read but the footy looks good the free kicks that change games and are ridiculous look terrible are just frustrating last night was great but if you are a real football person
you' d know exactly what I meant, so maybe you were having a joke.but I do write like I'm talking.
