There is too much up side.

His development. (obvious)
A J Corey, J Bartel, or J Kelly doesn't play back

He is incredibly clean with his quick decision making and disposal. Quite incredible really.

He has played all his games in a Geelong team that is under pressure. There hasn't been any free rides for him in his development.

I think he deserves it, and I think we need to free up centreman now.

I'd love to pick a 1st final team now. Because he would be in, and because of that we'd move a mid into the centre and have a second ruck.

Thoughts gents?

he is a promising player. Certainly will replace any future retired players. I am not sure if the team is fully fit ie a full squad to pick from whether he would get a gig at this stage in the finals.

Think we'll have to have some injuries for Gills to play finals, but he got some terrific experience tonight under pressure and stood up really well in the last quarter. Looks a prospect.

Gillies keeps getting better , he really has adjusted to the speed well considering its his first year. I doubt he will be be in our finals sides as its seem they putting time into Lonergan , he will drop out when Milburn comes back. To be fair Lonergan too has continued to improve and the more he plays , the more he looks comfortable in a support role down in D , he also can swing forward and be an option. The worry is Harley , he doesn't look comfortable at all. Maybe it was just slippery conditions but he looks to have lost his mobility and probably a bit of speed.

If you believe what is coming from the VFL board Trent West appears to be our next CHB. I have not seen him at all in the magoos but I have noticed he's playing that position and getting in the bests nearly every week. Other may choose to fill us in. He would certainly free Taylor up to be more creative which I believe is his best impact on our team, he's a beautiful kick a loves a goal.

Another gem from Wells. Now have 2/3 of our future tall backs ready in Gilles and Taylor. Need one more 195cm 98kg boy to take the power forwards.

I think Byrnes has definietly cemented his spot in the team after last night. Gillies is more replaceable so although I would to see him get finals experience we have to play our best 22 come finals and when we get everyone back he may not be in it.

Would love to see West in the team at Centre Half Back. I hope we dont loose him come the end of the year. I cant see him pushing his way in this year but start grooming him you next year.

What has worried me all year about Harley is that he seems to go to ground all the time. Sometimes I have no idea why he just drops to his knees. The ball gets knocked out of the contest and he is done for. I love him, but he is crawling over the line.

I think if your basing this on last night, it snot an entirely accurate reflection as everyone (even Gaz) was losing their footing last night. For me, Harley started doing the things he does best last night, which was reading the ball and going back to take some courageous grabs. I agree, that though that he is far from the player he was 2 seasons ago and I would think this would be his last year.

Harley is the biggest concern we have. I really hope he finds some touch next week because he is a liability at the moment.

I agree, still a great contested mark. However, opposition teams have learned not too drag him anywhere near that space about 30m out directly in front. If that makes sense. Lately he has been near useless when the ball is on the ground.

I honestly think Harley is starting to get back into the best form he has been in so far in the 2nd half of the season. He can handle the pressure and he will have no problem come finals.

Yep, definitely. I've said it before but we definitely need to take one of Gillies/Johnson into the finals.

Gillies definitely ahead at the minute.
With the experience of the Sydney game (Johnson 17 possessions and Gilies 7) would you still say that? I think Johnson put his hand up above the pack on Saturday night.

Well Gillies played rather well on the weekend. Only 1 mistake when he tried to play on at a really bad time but i can live with just 1 mistake. A small defender will be picked over Gillies when it comes finals time though i think.

I would much rather go into a final with a small defender such as DJ or Wojac than Gillies, reason being that we'll have our full complement of tall defenders by then and we need someone to try to shut down the Davis, Didak, Milne, Schneider types.

Kelly has done well in this role all season but he's missed so much football and Bomber said he was only a 'good chance' - not a certainty like Chapman or Rooke - to return this week. Some hamstring injury, hey?

When was the last game kelly played this year?

Has worried me too. His last few games - and some earlier - showed he was not back to anywhere near his best. His lack of match fitness and form is very concerting. Cannot pick a player in the finals just because he is your captain.

Cannot see Gillies getting a run come finals - just too raw at this stage.

I am really on board for Trent West to play CHB - or on the the tallest opposition forward. He looked good to me last week in the twos and by all reports has been good consistently down back. It is unlikely to happen as GFC selectors will probably be conservative and prefer Lonergan. Bugger !
