the guy is only 21 and has played a hand full of games but he has shown that he has talent with the bat, ball and in the field. to judge him,

he will find his place in the batting order and settle down. but is deffentaly a player of the future.

Yeah this is the impression that I've been getting too.

He'd be a pretty decent 20-20 hitter if he settled down a bit and didn't swing so hard at everything, throwing his head/body all out of balance.

That will come with experience. In a short time he has gone from being the regular 12th Man to being a key player for both the Bushrangers & Renegades in the shorter versions of the game.

Definetly at talent this bloke. Great striker of the ball and very handy spin option. Only starting and has a way to go but can see him playing T20 some time this year for Australia.

Those saying test match are a long way off. Needs to develop a lot more with both bat and ball. Been surprised how well he has batted this year in the shield. Another 2-3 years and could be a very handy batting all rounder.

First thing to iron out is losing his head to the big shots. he swings WAYYYYYY to hard and his head isnt still. Learn to do this right and he will be a much better player and more consistent hitter.

Like I have been saying with Starc/Faulkner, if the selectors are thinking about picking Smith then change that name to Maxwell. Obviously we have a few other pace bowling all rounders such as Christian and Mitch Marsh that will also come under consideration but if the selectors want a spinning all rounder then Maxwell is their man.

Smith is actually the better spinning option. Maybe Maxwell would be vying for the big hitting no 5 role currently filled by the big Victorian

Smith is actually a very good T20 player, his record stands up to be a very good one at least. Averages around 20 with both bat and ball. can take a catch and is an excellent fieldsman, Maxwell's bowling does leave a little to be desired though, still is yet to take a T20 wicket (from only 5 overs though).

Faulkner is another one who I think should be on the cusp of any Australian side by the end of the summer. But that is for another thread.

If they were looking at a bowler all rounder i.e. batting 8 then Smith would go alright in T20. But I've always seen the number 7 spot as the hitting spot and Maxwell fits that bill just so happens he bowls too.

I've seen a fair bit of Maxwell lately and I think he's a better batsman in the longer form of the game when he's not just swinging like a mad man. He needs to settle down a bit and try and time it like he has been in Sheffield Shield. I think he's a future number 5/6 test cricketer. He'll definately play for Australia in the shorter forms of the game first of course, he can really smash them when he gets going!

Grats to Maxy on really grabbing his chance in the ODI team by the balls!

Three really good innings in the UAE and played a ripper innings last night, taking us to victory and hitting a six over long on to win the match for us.

Was the only one to even look like scoring against Saeed Ajmal and has shown in this series that he has more shots than just the slog to cow-corner. Played good shots over and through the covers last night, some good late cuts, powerful leg glance type shots behind square leg and the six over long on.

Great to watch. :thumbsu:

In the squad for Sydney.

Like him as a player and imagine that he's a straight swap for Watson, especially considering that they specifically said that Khawaja's on standby for Clarke still.

First Class average of 42 is encouraging and, despite what I assumed, it's not really been bloated by not outs - only 2 in 24 innings.

May be a touch early (which seems to be the CA way these days), but it is pretty exciting nonetheless, due to how explosive he can be and how he brings a pretty good package with ability with the bat and ball and also fantastic fielding. Good luck Maxy, for your own sake and also Australia's! :thumbsu:
