Seriously, how ****ing stupid can they be?

They ask for a form regarding how much my folks make. I fill it out and send it in.

Two weeks later, they tell me I have not filled it out.

I fill it out for a second time, have to take a day off work, go in and in two second the woman goes 'uh yeh, we have that on record.' Now, three months later they are asking me for the same god damn form for THE THIRD TIME and have cancelled my payment. The second time I even had photocopy details saying the fax was sent and recieved etc.

Not to mention this has happened with my last three seperate forms as well. Not just this one, but for my own income, and then regarding my rent and shit when I moved up to uni. Three seperate forms they have said I didnt hand in.

Some poor girl or guy is going to get the shit blasted through them tomorrow. I know it wont be their fault, but I am ****ing angry about it now.

Once I got a reciept number, and then they said I hadnt called, so I said I had a reciept number and this guy goes "Well you could have just made that number up."

It closes at 5, so will have to call tomorrow.

yeah i don't understand centrelink sometimes.

got back from o/s at the end of august. first day back i go there so i can get newstart. find a job in the next week that starts early october. in the mean time i'm doing a bit of part-time casual bar work to 1) get some more money in and 2) pass the time till me jobs starts...

anyway, i get three payments before i no longer need my newstart allowance.

first payment my income was $0 for the fortnight and i get $430...
second fortnight my income is $60 and i get paid $440....

Go to their website and email them the information that they need.

:D:D:D

You probably should get your parents to call them and speak to them.

As an organisation, Centrelink is surely ****ed. :thumbsd:

However, I find their employees to invariably be very friendly and nice to talk to. :thumbsu:

But yeah, as an organisation they are seriously ****ed. :thumbsd:

The people there are nice, like the ones that work there that talk to you seem to want to help.

It's the assholes who you don't see that are the problem. I had to go in 5 weeks in a row to hand in the same form, 5 times I handed it in.

got a letter today saying they've gone over there payments and realised they've over paid me and now want me to pay them back

Ring them up and discuss it with the main guys.
It's not your local Centrelink office, it would be the main office in your state which is Melbourne.

At the end of the day, the government doesn't owe you anything, just be glad you live in a country that offers such benefits that they do, in the first place.

They just saved my arse to pay the rent after my employer ****ed my pay up. Sad that I can get a government bureaucracy to be more efficient than my employer.

Yup.

Is it true that the American welfare system only helps you out for a couple of months, then you are on your own?

Depends on your status, i.e. whether or not you've just been retrenched/long term unemployed/single parent, etc.

Those who have just been laid off, are only supported for a limited time, however if they have kids, then that situation tends to change a bit.

Scandanavian system gives you 90% of your wage for 4 years.
Retraining starts imediately
Not many stay on for 4 years.
They dont believe you should loose your house or lifestyle because you got retrenched.
In Australian we use starvation as motivation.
Sad realy
espeacially for those who need it.
Have friend who has been in a massive car accident, lost the plot a little just had radiation therapy for cancer,no chance of getting work as he is in his mid 50s unskilled and living in an isolated country town.
Used to be a bannana farmer bought a block of land up here and all this happened on the trip up a few years ago.

Compare the population of Scandinavia (encompassing half a dozen countries as it does), compared to Australia's, in particular the demographics that it make up, that ensure that such a policy applies to so few, compared to so many here.

That is why we don't even come close to such a thing.

You're a victim of lower class society. Why any capable and quality employee would want to work in that environment has me stuffed...

I use to work in the call centre and the amount of shit that got ****ed up was unbelievable. Forms were constantly going missing, people giving out incorrect information etc. I always tried my hardest to give the best customer service though :D

Unworkable, if I lived there & they offered to pay 90% of my wage I wouldn't go back to work until the 4 years ended.

I have never been given a cent from centrelink. I feel I should have to support myself but to say its starvation rations is not true. I agree they provide limited funds to motivate people to get work to maintain their desired lifestyle but that makes sense or why would anyone ever get a job?

People with genuine problems/disabilities can be referred to VRS, PSP or DSP which means they are supported by centrelink without the need to find employment during this time.

In saying that the whole system is up for restructure & the plan it seems by the government will be in the favour of those who are scamming the system or dole bludgers.

Have to agree with this from the 3 months I got the dole between TAFE and starting my apprenticeship. I swear they just make things difficult to put people off getting benefits but the staff were always good.
