GO YOU CROW BOYS
I did a quick search and couldn't find any threads or posts in other threads about Goody on 5AA last night.

Did anyone else listen to it (and better yet - have a link to it?)?

From the bits I caught (around my wife and in-laws jabbering!) I was quite dissappointed.

Goody seemed to just reel out the same old rhetoric. As my brother put it there needs to be 'moar biff'. Show some passion, draw lines in the sand DO SOMETHING. Obviously this is better done on the field - but he hasn't done that either. I personally feel we despeartely need someone down at the club to 'break ranks' with the overly PC/professional mentality of 'its our collective responsibility' and do something that makes an inspiriational difference. I thought Goody had a bit of a chance to hint at this during his chat with Cornsey and Rowey but no dice.

Some points I remember gleaning from the discussion:
  • Nothing special happened at training to go over the loss, they've reviewed it as they usually do and now move on
  • Players take responsibility for not executing - and they're working on it
  • Players support and believe in the gameplan = and they're working on it
  • The gameplan has stuff we havent seen/understood yet, its coming once we execute but we aren't sharing even a tidbit on what it might be
  • Tackling pressure is poor - we will work on that
  • We'll continue to work on <insert whatever negative aspect of the performance that had a question posed to Goody on it>
  • xxxx is our fault - we'll work on that
  • We are 100% behind Craigy (but if we aren't we'll work on that - actually I made that bit up)

Summary for me:
- I'm not inspired by Goody as our Captain and hope to hell the players don't feel the same way. I really miss the difference Roo made on the field when some leadership was needed.
- The gameplan does have stuff we are yet to see, due to poor execution, and I hope to hell, like last year, it starts to come together!!!

I'm right behind the club but for once I'd just like to see more passion and emotional interaction between the club and media. I'm sick to death of feeling like we are the most professional and poliltically correct club in the league with no room for a bit of passion/spirit. I totally respect how professional we have become but it seems to me our leadership is almost too scared to allow the professionalism and some raw passion/emotion to co-exist.

Was good to see McLeod come out with a bit of passion and fight on the weekend; shame Goody didn't do the same. I'm not suggesting by any stretch he doesn't care, because we all know Goodwin is as Crow as it gets, but it'd be nice to see him put his balls on the line and demand the others do the same.

Agreed.

I've bagged Symes alot in the past but gee we could use what he offers right now. Same for VB (though I've more glorified than bagged him :P )

Generally speaking Goody interviews as badly as any player in the AFL..last season he did On the Couch and was near embarassing.

I head this interview last night and agree it was Goody's usual standard..monotone, nothing answers, uninspiring. You would have thought that in the current climate he may show some emotion..but nothing.

Even a simple question about whay they are doing at goal kicking practice was like pulling teeth with the question having to be reasked numerous times.

Obviously I have no idea what he is like around the club off field in terms of leadership, but his external persona gives absolutely nothing.

I didn't hear it, however if was anything at all like his On The Couch performance then :(:o.

It's been said ad nauseum and i've said it before and no doubt i'll say it again, in fact......... where's the passion? Where is the feeling from the players that they would bleed for the jumper? Are we that far gone down the professionalism route that we just review the tape as per usual and then move on??

I want Goody to say that we have been terrible and that Craigy's been fuming and that heads have been rolling and that everyone has been put on notice. I want it to be more than just Maric to 'fly the flag' in battle. NOT, well....yeah.... we are working on that .

*takes breath

I'm not saying throw the baby out, but at least turn the hot tap on!!!

I was shocked to hear Goody come and out say that they are upbeat because there have been things that the club has been happy with this year.

There was the typical response of "we have been improving every week" which I found a silly comment as the Carlton game was close to the worst we have played this season.

AMEN, thats exactly how I feel right now, its all too friken perfect and robotic, there is not spark or passion, its bloody horrible, where is the flair the aggression, the hurt????

I care little about what he says and more what the team does... I mean has anyone listened to a Domenic Cassissi interview before... I dare anyone to tell me Goodwin is no better.

Saying he is towing the company line is to be expected for the most part... it's like if you are head of a department in a business and start contradicting everything coming out of head office... it's a much worse look.

Let's see how they respond on Friday night is all I care about... think I'm gonna put a lazy 20 on at $7.50 odds.

This thread sums up how I feel at the moment.

The club just dont get it, they dont understand how we feel. All we want is some passion, they say they are hurting too, It would be nice if they showed it.

They keep saying they are improving each week, who cares! We have played Freo (granted they are playing well) Melbourne and Carlton, its not good enough.

There is a massive void in leadership, nobody is asking for anyone to go out swinging hay makers, all we ask is for a genuine attack on the body and the ball, all we are getting at the moment is this ultra defensive, ultra conservative and ultra cautious approach. Its time to try something different, sometimes the best form of defence is to attack.

Take the game to the bulldogs, show some spirit, hit them hard, run forward all day, and if we come away with a loss I will not care, aslong as we show some passion.

At least Dom draws lines in the sand when his team is performing like crap and showing no passion:D

Seriously though - yes we need them to show more passion, but let's see it on the footy field where it counts. Come out on Friday night and show some pride in the jumper. Take it up to the bulldogs and compete for 4 quarters. I'm expecting we'll lose but I just want us to show some fight and determination. What was frustrating on saturday and in the Sydney game is that we got ourselves back into the game - We were a Tippo goal away from being within 4 goals with most of the last quarter to go, but we let them win by 7+ goals. We used to be renowned for being ultra competetive, rarely getting blown away. I can only think of a handful of 40+point losess in the last 5 years and we've had 3 already this season.

If they come out and put their bodies on the line, work hard for their teammates and show some competetive spirit for 4 quarters, win lose or draw, I'll be happy. (Obviously happier for the win though)

I wouldnt expect much from Symes this year at all. His main strength has always been his fitness, and apparantly his hooping cough / knee surgery has significantly pulled him well back into the pack

Great thread, sums up how I feel too. Would love to see some passion/aggression from the players. Give the other team a few rough bumps, upset some players, see what it does, stick up for our own guys. Upsetting players by giving them some rough bumps can put them off their own game and sticking up for our guys to let the other teams know that we wont let that shit happen is what should be happening but it has been a long time since I have seen a few big bumps from our players.

Agreed. It's hard for us to expect the younger blokes to do this when the senior guys simply dont. I'd too like to see some agression from the players, and it needs to start from the top (I'm looking at you Goody). We seem to be too scared about rubbing people the wrong way and tainting our 'good boy' image within the AFL. I'm by no means suggesting reckless or dirty football, far from it. I just think it's time for a few blokes to stand up and take charge, show how serious they are about wearing the jumper and not letting anyone get in there way. As I said, it doesnt mean cheap shots behind play or knocking someones head off. I just want to see tackles laying the opposition into the turf, decent bumps, letting your direct opponent know your there and FFS sticking up for your teammates when it happens to them!

SPOT ON, please AFC give me something to get FIRED UP about Friday night, find the PASSION and the FIRE and throw all the rubbish out the door:thumbsu:

This interview was as boring as ****.

It was actually an insult to our intelligence.

Totally agree its the actions that matter.

What frustrates me is we've seen NONE of that either. And I also think there is an ability to work within the constraints of 'towing the line' and hinting at a bit of a difference to approaching the footy and the man on this coming Friday night.

Catching up the thread just now I remembered some of the pre-season training I went to. Goody was absolutely harrassing/bumping/thumping Walker in some drills. It was great stuff to watch.

FFS Goody go out and do that to the opposition this Friday - with intent to actually disrupt the opposition and not just show you aren't allowing them to disrupt you - and I'll be pleased.

FIRE UP BOYS! Have the courage to try and do something on your own to change the complexion of the game rather than hoping the team structure and strategies will 'click' at some point.

Shit - with how we are going right now I'd almost want Barry Hall to run out and punch Porplyzia in the face and dislocate his arm as that might actually galvanise us into some form of assertive action!

thats because hes told not to answer anything by the club. No-one answers anything honestly. Its all spin, or cliches. I'm sure he wishes he could. BTW Goody is a legend, at least he tries hard every week. I'm sure he's hurting under that facade.

Isn't that the coaches role? but not happening! never will!

Partially. At this point I just want anyone to do something to make a difference and emotionally connect with us as supporters even if we can't execute the game plan/skills perfectly.

You're insinuating Craig isn't doing this. Personally I can't argue with this.

I'm saying Goody hasn't done it for me (yet *crosses fingers*).

Let's hope someone steps up to make a difference. Soon!

Good thread, I can't help thinking there is something about the AFC that equates professionalism to 'show no emotion, don't play with passion' .

How many of our players actually play with passion?

Maric
Dangerfield
VB
Walker (used to but seems to have been drummed out of him)
Thompson (now drummed out of him too)

Basically they are mostly the young guys.

What also worries me is Neil Craig's rejection of football's conventional wisdom, which is

- don't make big predictions at the start of the year

- the draft system means sometimes it is worthwhile to rebuild and get good draft picks

- when the team's down try something different (shake them up, drop some big names, yell at them, train them into the ground, take them out drinking, REACT!)

- delist older players before they have one year too many

At the AFC it's all sytems, processes, feedback, anything but some !@#*!*#@ passion.

If we could enter a team in the Tour de France we'd be champions, but this is football guys............

Maybe, just maybe, those beliefs above are conventional because they are true?

It was a bad interview.

It was cringeworthy when Cornesy asked Goody, "Don't you need someone up forward to kick it to?"

SHOW SOME ****ING PASSION THIS FRIDAY BOYS
