Plenty here old enough to remember Melbourne in the late 90s/early 00s... one good year, one poor year... like clockwork.

1997 - 16th
1998 - 4th
1999 - 14th
2000 - 2nd (after finals)
2001 - 11th
2002 - 6th
2003 - 14th
2004 - 5th

Some stability in 2005 & 2006 (both years finished 7th) before being back in wooden spoon contention in 2007... where they were for nearly a decade.

I am expecting them to rebound pretty strongly next year. 2019 has been a disaster.

Last years Preliminary Final was the beginning of the end. Melbourne were absolutely pantsed that day, couldn’t kick a first half goal and were only saved from a hundred point belting when the Eagles rested up in the second half.
It really knocked the wind out of their sails..

He should be under more pressure. There’s a thread on the Demons board called Coaching Discussion 2017. Concerns raised early in his tenure are an over reliance on inside midfielders to win contested ball, no spread, forward inefficiency, physical and mental fitness required to carry out the game plan, leaking goals out the back because of pressing too high and a lack of good kicks as well as players with leg speed. Concerns about the ability to execute his game plan were raised from day dot and he has done nothing to fix it.

Barely a handful of players have developed under his watch. We have traded ourselves out of multiple drafts for quality key defenders which is a fools errand given that WE HAVE NO TEAM DEFENCE. The players have had all flair, instinct and fun coached out of them by this bumbling nerd.

Simon Goodwin is presently the worst coach in the AFL, he is also worse than the 3 coaches already sacked this year. He’s got the tactical nous of Dean Bailey mixed with the BPD of Mark Neeld. The difference is that he inherited a much better list than the roaring bin fire those two poor campaigners were dealt.

When he was a player he got caught betting on AFL games ($16,000 bet on one game alone). Lack of moral fiber or possible gambling problem.

As an assistant coach he was there from start to finish during Essendons drug cheating scheme. Everyone involved in that club at the time is guilty of systematic doping imo. Again clear lack of morals.

As a coach he was so ineffective as a leader that he couldn't convince his players to go on a preseason camp.

We gave Bailey the keys to the tank and he bolted down the wrong side of the highway with 36 Chambers blasting out of the subs and "Cuddles" in the passenger seat waving around half a bottle of Scotch. Even Blind Freddy spotted that one!!!

Goody on the other hand is putting on a clinic in throwing games- ripe with subtle manoeuvres all the experts have missed: Fritsch, skinny as a rake getting battered and bruised in the ruck and spending half the season in the backline. Jetta's at the centre bounces. Brayshaw in a tagging role (Hello, Harmes?!??!?) Jones back, Lewis forward, Oscar going on a mid-season "pre-season", what the **** even is that?

We're doing just enough to make it all look plausible and you fools are swallowing it whole. Wouldn't surprise me if Goody's been dropping a little pocket money on our games too, we've had the bookies fooled all year.

Such a shame you people are too dense to understand the artistry demonstrated by Goody's coaching tanking masterclass in 2019.

Don’t believe that at all. Truth is we had enough holes to sink the titanic, we just managed to pull our finger out for a month and had some great wins.

‘Guilty of systematic doping’ wow. That’s a new one. Even though he wasn’t the head coach or involved directly in calling the top line decisions? FWIW, we made a PF after not going on that camp. Maybe the players were right. Ever thought of it that way? Important for them to have a voice as well.
