You said Majestic is better than DWD. I was just quoting you.

I think you'll find that last point is about as convincing as the rest of your arguments.:thumbsu:

You've jumped ship...

Why is it that every time there is a new poster on this board they have to be accused of being DWD?
If he's posting something of substance then why should it matter if DWD has gone and made another account? Does it need to be highlighted?
From what i've seen Majestic is far more mature than DWD which was really his only problem. If Majestic is DWD then good on him, he's considerably improved his posting. This should be encouraged as it makes for a better board. If Majestic isn't DWD then you're accusing him of something he's not.
Either way give Majestic a chance because to my knowledge he/she has done nothing wrong. :thumbsu:

Fair enough but that's not really my point.

I understand that and understand that he's been given dozens of chances in the past but surely if Majestic is posting well and not annoying anyone then there is no need to bring this rubbish up.

Maybe it could be people using Firefox? That's the only thing I can think of.

All I know is i'm using Safari and it's working fine. :)
Weird, just tried IE as well and that also does not work. Since I am anti Mac and Safari reminds me of Mac I don't have it so I cant test that.:D

The DT site is working fine for me in both Firefox and IE, so I can't say for sure if this will help. However, it would be worth trying a hard-refresh. Very simple and a possible solution.

Just Press Ctrl+F5 when viewing the site, this bypasses the cache and forces the browser to download the webpage directly from server.

Might fix it, might not, but can't hurt.

whats the quickest way to work out someones break even for next week if predicting there score for this week. is there a way to do it in Genie.
eg. simpson has a break even of 131, say i predict him to score 90 this week against the saints.. how can i work out his break even for next week.
thanks
Short answer, no, I don't believe you can do this in FFGenie, however you can do it.

Price movements are calculated by: (75% of current price) + (25% of market value), where market value = average over last 3 rounds multiplied by the magic number. The magic number changes on a weekly basis, but you can find the current figure used in FFGenie by right clicking and selecting "edit multiplier", currently it's 4079.

If you are reasonably skilled at using Excel spreadsheets, you should be able to set up some simple formulas which will allow you to calculate new prices based on any scores you choose, then you just use the "Goal seek" function to find the new breakeven. When Goal seek is activated it will ask you which cell you want to set (the new price), what value to set it to (current price), and which cell to change to achieve this (the most recent score).

So...for Kade Simpson, you can use FFGenie to predict a price fall of $14,500 if he were to score 90 this week, bringing his current price to $437,400. Using the above method his new breakeven would be around 121.

I'll see if I can set up a simple spreadsheet to demonstrate, as it is not easy to describe, and I fear my explanation may be a little confusing.

And here it is: http://rapidshare.com/files/383470930/BEcalc.xls.html
I used Franklin's figures to demonstrate that the calculations are accurate.
I don't have a rapidshare account so this link will die after 10 downloads. Perhaps a MOD could attach the file?

EDIT: (Axewell) No can do. There is a 1kb file size limit for attachments.

I think you can calculate breakeven directly (without goal seek) as follows:

BE = (3 x Current Price / Magic Number) - s1 - s2

where s1 and s2 are scores in the past two rounds

BE = (3 x Current Price / Magic Number) - s1 - s2

That works nicely, I was sure there must be a simpler way. Well done.

The problem with this is that the magic number changes week to week. Tooserious is the only way to get a price prediction with an accurate estimation of the magic number

Would you like a treat for a job well done?
This board is at the point where that is no longer required. If someone posts an excellent post and no one quotes and it says "great job :thumbsu:" it doesn't mean its a great post. This board is not about recognition but instead sharing your ideas for all to benefit.

I personally like the fact that Mod's don't need to do this, and quite honestly the board is actually running incredibly smoothly. Now we have someone random make up the teams thread each week, the team discussion thread, the round score thread etc etc. I can't remember a time when it has run this smoothly. I really don't understand what your complaining about? Believe me, things could be a lot worse here

+1
Its not up to the mods to do all the work. This board is ran by the community. If new posters sign up and are posting things in the wrong places it is up to all of us to point them in the right direction. Frantelle You look like you joined up just after me so im assuming you remember what the board was like when we first signed up with a million 'rate my team' threads and 5 billion 'I NEED HELP' threads. This forum runs really smoothly now and is an awsome tool for dream team. The mods we have are doing a great job. If people stopped worrying about how the board is run and concentrated a bit more on what they are here for (their dream teams) They might find themselves doing alot better!

As you said this board isnt about recognition. Its about sharing ideas. If ya want recognition finish top 10 in dream team 3 seasons in a row then you ll get recognition! Let your results do the talking, not your mouths!

Just my 2 cents

I guess everyone does have their own views on moderation. A few years ago the standards on this board were down, as others have stated, multiple single response threads were being created.

There have been many changes that have occurred in the last couple of years. There has been plenty of hard work from people that are not moderators. I am new to the role along with Axwell. I prefer the more subtle moderation were the board has a life of its own and the posters lead discussion and attempt to self moderate. I have found when you empower the board users, it creates a lot stronger board than the moderator being the all powerful and all mighty.

There are so many quality posters on this board that congratulate good posts and highlight posters which are trolling. I guess this is my preferred version of moderation.

Very well answered Tarquin.

Moderation is not just about the negative crowd control aspects.

You need to think about why you being the mod over somebody else adds value to this forum.

I'm happy I've got you thinking about it.

Thankyou for the discussion, I wish you well.

I do admit that I'm not the best poster here but I do like to contribute.

When Tarquin accepted the mod job he did so in good faith and well knowing it was an unpaid position.

To come in and whinge about doing it for free is very poor form.

I moderate an internet forum somewhere and I can tell you it's not for the faint of heart that don't want to put the work in.

I think hanging around and being online is a big part of a moderation role.

You need to encourage posters when they are doing the right things and scold them when they are doing the wrong thing, set a good example and build relationships so they can see who their mods are and how they are working to make the place better.

Every reported post is sent by email to all the mods of that board AND a thread is created on the mods' board. If you want action on a post/thread, that's the way to get it.

Given you haven't reported a post since March 30, I don't see what you've got to complain about:cool:

IIRC last year's winner (Team Director) was ranked around #37th after round 5, I have no idea what kind of point-scoring that relates to though or how far behind the leaders he was then.

It would be interesting to see what score last years winner was on this time last year and who was in front and what they were averaging. Is there a database somewhere?
I think this is an interesting issue.

In past years I have made basic scripts to track particular teams, just in terms of what trades they have made and how much cash they have left.

You could potentially write an app that scraped every team off the website each week and did this. It would be a big job, but it would be a popular app, and something that I and I'm sure a lot of other people would be willing to pay for.

Alternatively - one would hope VS could do it for us. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't want people to see this information.
