A port v lions grand final was the dream game that filled the Gabba.

Richmond have less than 4000 Brisbane fans, and based on tonight’s crowd there doesn’t seem to be more than that number of Geelong fans.

I love afl and go to both lions and suns games, but can’t bring myself to fork out the dollars to watch two teams I’m sick of seeing win play.

Do you think the Gabba will fill to the reduced capacity? I don’t.

There was a push to open the stadium to full capacity. Not sure that will happen now. No need.

Feel the same as you - despite how historic the occasion will be, I don't really have much interest spending a few hundred dollars to watch Richmond play Geelong. Any other match up from the top 8 might have been interesting, but it feels the dullest of them all to me.

They'll get 20k there for sure. No clue how many more after that though.

Pretty sure the league won’t have any trouble finding enough b-list celebs/pollies/businesspersons/insta influencers to pad out the numbers.

I think the crowd will only be around 10k.

Regular QLD people won’t go to a all VIC GF now.
And I’m certainly not spending my hard earned dollars to see Geelong V Richmond.

With the Broncos being last this year it was the perfect opportunity for a home GF and all the potential of new members as well. Oh well 🙁

To be honest - I’m not sure if I will even watch it! And I have watched every grand final in the last year 19 years. So yeah

I asked in the game thread last night whether it would sell out and probably in hindsight it was a dumb question - yeah it will, Richmond have a lot of support up here and as already mentioned they’ll get enough to fill it out.

What is lost though is the potential “advertising” of the game up here. The local media up here don’t really care about the AFL at the best of times, it would’ve been the perfect opportunity with a Brisbane team in the GF to “pump it up”.

Doubt we will hear all that much about the game up here this week now.

Even though The Lions won't be playing, I for one would like to be at the game. Yes, the team I love won't be there to make it feel important but this is history being made! The only time the AFL GF will be played outside of Melbourne, at night! I want to be part of that.

If they can't sell it out after presale for Richmond and Geelong members do you think they'd try to sell some tickets to lions members?

Will still be a good crowd. Remember only half the tickets even goto the competing clubs. Will be plenty of neutral tickets bought. Agree that they probably don't need to push for full capacity though. 30k probably enough.

Well they had near full capacity last night. There were two two-row rings around the top deck and another two row ring around the lower deck. Everywhere else was elbow to elbow again. If they can l to the same capacity as a bare arse minimum, even with two vic teams.

I hope so too.
Queensland would be frowned upon so badly if it doesn’t sell out.
The media would run with it and we would never hear the end of it.

I come in peace, Lions supporters. While I was delighted to win last night, the way in which the current corrupt finals system (run at the behest of the betting agencies) screws the chances of the top teams (in particular, the winners of the QF's) is simply a disgrace and you all have every right to be disgusted by it.

Anyway, all the best for next year and beyond...your club truly plays its footy the right way, and has a great group forming under a very formidable coaching staff.

Can I ask a question related to Saturday, though? The exorbitant ticket prices for the GF (thanks again, AFL) have me seriously considering restricted view seats for the game. Can anyone here give me any advice on the sections of the ground where these might be a decent prospect? I thought I remembered reading somewhere that there are places where the 'restricted view' isn't all that restricted, meaning that you're actually in not a bad seat, considering the cost involved. As fans who spend far more time at the Gabba than I do, I thought someone here might have the good word on how you can make this category work to your advantage.

So any advice on relevant sections or locations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Try the whole top level row AA.
The front row which is restricted a bit by the handrail that you need to look through to see the field.
If you are tall it is good and small not too bad.

That's great, thanks very much. Will give it a shot.

I don't think anyone in Queensland will care about an all Victorian grand final. I know I won't, and I'm sure the AFL are kicking themselves that we didn't make it.

A lot of casuals/neutrals who were previously interested aren't really interested anymore but it will still easily sell out.
Personally I'm hoping to get a ticket still.

I don't care about two vic clubs but it's history being made, and as a Brisbane resident I very much want to be part of it. I think people are underestimating how many Brisbane people like myself will go for the same reason.

I'm pretty certain I won't go , well maybe if the tickets were no more than the pre lim then again no.
If we had bowed out earlier I probably have a bit more enthusiasm as to going back into a crowded stadium as a neutral to line up for over priced beer and food.
The game itself , should be a cracker, just as happy to watch on the couch.

Just on the cost of tickets.
my friends went to the Storm v Canbera game for $25 each, so go figure , pretty certain if the Broncs were playing the tickets would of been higher, but that was cheap.
