The area of an elliptical isn't actually that simple, of the numbers you quoted the SCG is actually 93.4% of the size of the MCG.
16.556km2 compared to 17.718km2
No wonder the players get tired so quickly nowadays.

Would ease congestion for sure, especially combined with starting zones. Would take a few minutes to run it from the centre square to the 50.17 square kilometers would be closer to a nuclear blast radius than it is to a footy oval.
Lets call it 16,556m2 compared to 17,718m2 then
A square 155m x 136m is 21,080m2 isn't it?

That's about right. So the goal line is 5.5m from the fence line at each end, don’t think that’s right.
No wayAt the scg the fences are only 50cm from the boundary line
That's about right.
Most grounds aim for about 5m between boundary and fence.
If you look on Google Earth you can see the gap is a little more than half the goal square.
True, if you look on Google Earth you can see the G is pretty much a perfect ellipse, so that area calculation would be pretty accurate. It also doesn't factor that grounds have different depth of pockets.
Someone one have an overlapping graphic to show how the grounds compared to each other which illustrated this very well
How so? Do you think it's more or less?not a chance
lol mate you can measure from the 50m to the goal on google maps if you like. It’s 50mAlso the 50m line is definitely 50m, its just that the ball travels further in Sydney which means players that normally cant kick over a jam jar can give it a roost from 53
i wonder why they don't put the cameras on the other side of docklands?
Its a conspiracyFunny how ovals look a bit like footies
Not really.i wonder why they don't put the cameras on the other side of docklands?
can clearly see the orientation is the wrong way compared to mcg, perth, subi
would that help with broadcasts, shadows etc?
Maths failSCG 155m long and 136m wide.
MCG 160 x 141m
So the MCG is 5m x 5m larger. That's 25 square metres more space. There's nothing crap about commentators saying the SCG is smaller. It clearly is.
rather than build aami park where they did, I wonder if they should have reconfigured docklands to be a rectangular ground, and built a 40000 capacity footy ground where aami is instead...Not really.
They try and have the cameras on the North/West side of the ground to avoid looking into the sun in the afternoon. They are on the west side at Etihad.
wouldn't be a square but rectangleLets call it 16,556m2 compared to 17,718m2 then
