grundog49's Phantom Draft

Really hope not then. If we want Ryan at 20, then surely we take Florent at 9. If we don't get speed in this draft I'll be asking a question of WHY! It was our one weakness. In a midfielders draft surely it makes more sense to not reach for a KPD!
Our other weakness was getting bashed through the middle, outside of JPK.

Then get a pure inside. I really am
Not getting this love of utilities. It makes very little sense with our side. I'm still hoping for Brodie at 9 personally. Can address our needs at 19/20 with an outside mid/wingman. Needs pick at our 3rd (KPD such as Ryan or a ruck)

Yeah I agree with you. Luke Ryan at 19 seems pretty underwhelming.

It'll be very interesting to see who the slider is and whether we take them over the proposed pick of Logue. I do like Logue though, so long as we look at pace/outside skills at 19.

English seems like a strange selection for the Eagles with their first pick. I might expect that, having traded in Vardy (who can play in the ruck), they would be more likely to target some other position with their first pick and perhaps draft a young ruckman later on in the draft or the rookie draft.

GC would go into deficit and with some strong academy players coming through the ranks next year, I dont think they would want to risk missing out on those players.
I don't think GC would be too worried about going into deficit if matching the bid on Scheer at pick 30.
Keep in mind that in your phantom you have GC matching Sydney's pick 10 bid with GC's pick 11. This leaves them with a surplus of 213 points.
Matching a bid of pick 30 on Scheer costs 432 points.
With their points surplus from the Bowes bid this means that matching the Scheer bid would only cost them 219 points deficit for next year which isn't much especially when they have 3 2nd round picks for next year.
Suppose the best of their second rounders next year is pick 22. All it would cost to match Scheer would be exchanging that pick 22 for pick 30 and Scheer.
Well worth it for Scheer I personally think.

I'd rather do the same at 19/20 then. I see little sense drafting more than 1 KPD in this draft! Next years draft from absolute memory is chock filled with KPP. Why we are overpaying for one in a midfielders draft I have no idea.

We need genuine speed. Would rather Cox at 19/20.
Have you seen some of the players in the 2018 draft. Lots of leg speed in next year's draft.

We need speed next year, we are contending next season.

If you want a player who can impact running out of the back line next year your best bet would probably be in bringing in the more mature aged Luke Ryan as grundog49 suggested, while not blessed with huge pace he's more likely to have an impact next year than an 18 year old at that pick, if impact next year is really what you're after.

Where have I said I want a running defender? Wingman thanks or an outside mid. Genuine outside mid with class should be our target. Ryan just screams 'overpaying' at 19/20. If we had a pick around 30 he'd not be a bad choice though.

I just mean he's the most likely player to make an impact next year that has pace as you requested given he is more mature.
I don't think it is realistic to expect a skinny 18 year old like Gallucci, Bolton, Cox or Parfitt to come in and make an immediate impact running through the midfield next year.
Maybe if it was McGrath or SPS as they have a few more tricks and a more complete game but it seems unlikely those players will be available at your selection.
Otherwise who else would you be suggesting to draft at that pick?

Gc picked up hawthorns and richmonds 2017 2nd rounders so they can use those to match a bid on scheer.

Rather get Cox or Parfitt personally suits our needs, or possibly Simpkin at 9. I just feel we need some speed at one of 9 OR 19/20. If we go for two defenders at those picks I'd really be asking WHY. I know Logue isn't set as a defender, but still. I just feel we really need some speed in this draft.

Fair enough. I think Cox is probably a good pick for Sydney at 19 as well so all good. Think Parfitt would be a bit of a reach but wouldn't mind Gallucci there either. Just don't think they'll make much of an immediate impact.
I think Logue and Ryan are 2 players that could really come into the Sydney team and make an impact straight away. Whether or not that's what they're after remains to be seen.

Logue I'm on the on the fence, but I'll trust the recruiters there, I hope they get it right as we are overlooking some really top line players for him. Personally I am hoping for Brodie to slip or SPS (both seem to be slipping a fraction). My first preference at 9 after that is actually Hayward. However at 19 we need some speed, we need to address what we were exposed by on GF day- lack of genuine speed!

English and whathisname for our first 2 picks. Thanks but no thanks.

you've got suns taking jack graham with pick 52. not sure where you've got this pick from? we've only got the 4x top 10 picks plus pick 73 (not sure how we snuck up to 70??)

tarranto, scrimshaw, florent & bowes would be a pretty decent haul. the sandringham dragons connection is nice. i reckon we'll match any bid on scheer though.
