You can thank all the bleeding heart whinging left loonies for this dragging on and on and on

If the cops run in and

a/ kill him
b/ beat the crap out of him

all the 'civilian libitarians', the Greens, femonazis and the great unwashed irrelevant noisy leftie minorities will all kick up a stink

The cops are too scared to cough on anybody these days

This is how low Victoria has dragged to in the past few years, if Chairman Jeff was still in power he'd of been on the phone to the cops hours ago saying "finish this and arrest the ****er"

Why bother negotiating all night costing lots of money and manhours when one knockout-gas grenade could solve all this?

Don't necesarily kill or beat him, just KNOCK HIM OUT AND TAKE HIM AWAY!

Think the problem is, they won't be arresting him, he will either give himself up, top himself, or the cops will run out of patience & shoot him.

Now what you all have to ask yourselves is, why is he doing this, he was driving a car with stolen number plates, is he a career criminal, or someone who has committed an horrendous crime & scared to be caught.

Yeah I reckon he must have done something pretty bad to be doing something this drastic.

But since I live about 10 minutes (or less) down the road and over the bridge from where he is right now, I would kind of like this OVER WITH and very soon. What, are they going to 'negotiate' with him overnight? :o

i notice a post or two was removed that said the cops should have shot him. well i too feel that more should have been done. personally, i don't care if they shot him dead, merely injured him, whatever. what if he was on drugs and the siege was still going? what if he could stay awake for 3 days? what then? oh well, he holds all the cards, nothing we can do.

his mental health, his life, is literally inconsequential when compared to the inconvenience caused. i work in a hospital and either heard or know of people that needed to get to the emergency room, or that worked in intensive care. nope, we have a man holding melbourne to ransom. to hell with the needs of tens of thousands of civilised Melburnians.

Not that I know of. No record of removal. Various posts advocating knocking the guman off still extant on this thread.

I heard about this yesterday. Scary stuff for all the motorists on the Westgate Bridge.

Let's hope that the gunman stays behind bars.

Should we look forward to the Commonwealth Games in 2006. A group of well organised extremists (ala munich 1972) try a few fun and games! How well is our police going to cope then......................... an 8 week seige!

If they cant handle 1 idiot with a shot gun how will they handle a group with intent and purpose!

1 tranqualliser or as previously suggested a tear gus/ stun grenade could have solved motorists a lot of wated time! and made our police force look proactive rather than wating for this ****er to fall asleep, good going boys in blue!

Lets just be glad he didn't shoot a bunch of people.

He didn't shoot anyone, did he?

I don't think he did. I think he just got pulled over, then hid in his van with the gun. They said on the news last night that he didn't try to fire at other motorists or anything, so I guess that's a good thing.

Rumor is that he was pulled over to be rewarded for good driving. He had one of those "Drive Right 2" stickers on his van, and had been spotted. It all can unstuck when they did a check of the rego plates though.

Nice work TAC.

If we are killing people over inconvenience can we blow up the showgrounds so I don't get stuck in traffic over the next two weeks.

i didn't realise people still went to the Melbourne Show. how much are show bags these days? 15 bucks?

Haha, funny one.

The only criticism of the police should be with the initial intercept of the offender. For some reason he was allowed to go to the back of his van, where he proceeded to pull out the shot gun.

They wont use tear gas, stun guns unless they have to, and it was shown that in this case they didn't have to. So what if traffic was terrible for a few hours. At least no one was killed.

And talk of shooting him, yeah....that would go down well with the public.

Did you read red+black's post?

It affects much more than just "traffic."

As for anybody getting killed, as soon as the police had blocked off the entire area and evacuated all nearby people, the only person who was ever going to be killed was the shotgun idiot, so the safety of the public was never an issue after that anyway.

Yet it still took them 10 hours.

As PeteLX said - how much does ONE gas grenade cost?

There's no need to go in guns blazing and kill the guy, but you can't let one person disrupt a city like that.

Imo, our police showed how incompetent they are in such a situation.

And talk of shooting him, yeah....that would go down well with the public.

Would it be a loss to the human race?

A 30yo idiot driving around in a van with stolen plates and a shotgun is hardly going to be a moral citizen.

Rather than showing no mercy on drivers, perhaps the police should start taking the same approach when it comes to actual criminals.

Was this car stolen??

If so why was he carrying a gun in the car??
He may have intended to do more then hold the traffic up for a few hours.....

Even if the car wasn't stolen, it's not every day you take a shotgun in the car with you.

Expect Collingwood's membership to drop below 10,000 next year if that was to happen.

They were just saying on the late news that callers to talk-back radio stations 'upset' the man because he was listening and people were saying the police should just shoot him.

Hmmmmmmm. :o
