The 2010 first-year sensation is due to have a 30cm metal rod running down the inside of his lower leg removed later this month.

But it is believed his surgeon is troubled with a slower than expected healing rate in his broken bones.

There is also concerns that important tendon repair has not responded and could require further surgery.

Barlow, who turns 23 this month, suffered his shocking break in the Round 14 clash against Port Adelaide at Subiaco Oval in Perth when he crashed into teammate Rhys Palmer in a marking contest.

He snapped the tibia and fibula bones below the knee in the horrific collision and his bone restructure was described by surgeons as fitting a "jigsaw".

Recent assessment and scans have shown slow growth and further surgery has not been ruled out.

This makes me want to vomit - as he's my favourite non-eagle

Can't imagine how it affects you guys

I don't think anyone (but Barlow himself) thought he was going to be playing in the early rounds. If he can get his body right to play from around mid June I'd be stoked.

The break was not fitting a 'jigsaw'. It was a clean break, completely different to someone like Nathan Brown's break etc..

What this stupid journalist who wrote this nonsense failed to mention; Freo have secretly undergone a radical trial in bone breakage rehab for AFL players...

This process is some what "X-perimental" but earlier trials has seen the patient come back significantly Bigger, Stronger and Faster.

Joke journalism at it's best...if a medical practitioner / surgeon / specialist decided the share 'his troubles' on a patient re a confidential matter with the press he'd be out of work.
