First time in 5 years the Hamilton Cup will be run in Hamilton. They have been running electric times there by all reports.

I'll be down there sinking some beers, but have no clue who to select. Anyone feel like tipping the card so I can look like I know what I am doing?

Cheers,
Rizz

A new 1000m track to relplace the small half-mile track that was in place when they last raced at Hamilton.

At the recent trials there on the 14th Feb the times they ran weren't anything flash no not sure of your source there Rizzo...?

R1: Lot Of Lip looks a good way to start the program. Raced against the A-graders last season as a 3yo. Has gate speed and would be near unbeatable if he found the top.

R2: Terrible race. Don't bet.

R3: Dare I say it...another shocking race.

R4: Tough race with a lot of the main players drawing poorly under the preferential prizemoney barrier draw. Historic Drive has speed and should find the front. He goes quick but can stop quickly too if pressured. Over the sprint distance I think he is a good value bet if he can get a cheap 2nd quarter.

R5: The locally trained Whodyou Wantmetobe is a class act but first up from a long break. On the score of fitness I would go with Hez The Bart Man who improved markedly second up from NZ last start. If he continues to improve for Grant Campbell he is clearly the one to beat.
R6: Best bet on the program Shanghai Knight. Bolted in on debut then driven too quietly last time when Grant Campbell left his run too late going down by a head. Should bounce back.

R7: Quality race the Hamilton Cup. These standing start races are always tough with a lot depending on how they step away and luck in running. Ohoka Nevada is a class act and is the only genuine grand circuit horse in the race but his form has tapered a bit since he won the Kilmore Cup. I think with 20m headstart on him Tear It All Away is a better way to go from a punting perspective (I believe Sethlad has horses with Geoff Webster so may be able to give us some more insight on Mister Anthony and Tear It All Away).

R8: Windinyasoup has jumped out of the ground recently, winning by 31m last start untouched. Trottin On The Ritz hasn't gone on with his early promise and will be massive unders.

race 1- hard to go past favourite but respect the two barry finnis runners drawn 1 and 2, leaning to devil fish.

race 2- bita sweet lombo each way if it gets a run.

race 3-average race and again, bita sweet lombo if it gets a run.I backed the one when it won its only race after getting a lovely run for the shoog from the ace draw.If it cant do something from this draw with quinlan it never will

race 4- historic drive is honest at the distance range (9-3-4-1), elite prospect has won first up yet is on paper yet is unplaced in five runs this distance.Open race do like golden sensastion/athena bromac.

race 5-whodoyouwantmetobe each way looks the one.put beach shaker no luck last two put in your quaddies.
the #8 could be 3 back the pegs as i think lombo socialite wil take a trail from jiliby jamila.

race 6-shanghai knight very hard to beat, courage l a bumped into a smart one first up last start. Our universal could run a race at odds.

race 7-open race but its hard to go past a g lang driven horse in these country cups.village of dreams for me.

race 8- like the #6 each way.the #7 could improve after a few runs in aus.The 4 and 5 simply dont win.

good luck

Race 1 I like Devil Fish as it will sit be behind Lot Of Lip (who has been a shade disappointing for me) and get last shot at them. Captain Courage and Threes A Cloud round out the First Four.

Race 2 If (and its a big IF) Best Of Wine does not gallop it will win, now that Bitta Sweet Lombo gets a run it will probably start favourite and go close, raffle for third but maybe the 1 from the draw.

Rave 3 Again an IF. Whiteliner looked like a very good horse before injury put him in the wilderness for a few years. Based on a good trial at Mt Gambier and the fact that he is back at Broughy's I'd be prepared to back him at each way odds. Meet The Punisher will give a good site as will Harbahay. No.1 for First 4 players.

Race 4 5 chances all about equal, 3,7,10,11,12. At a pinch I would go for Athena Bromac from Crave.

Race 5 On recent form Jilliby Jamilla should just lead and win. Hez The Bart Man and Whodoyu Wantmetobe are the dangers.

Race 6 Very hard race. Perhaps something each way No.8

Race 7 I like Tear It All Away from Ohaka Nevada and Triple Vance

Race 8 Trottn On The Ritz will win

Good Luck

I think with 20m headstart on him Tear It All Away is a better way to go from a punting perspective (I believe Sethlad has horses with Geoff Webster so may be able to give us some more insight on Mister Anthony and Tear It All Away).

I believe he generally has some good info particularly on the latter ;)

Just thought would let you know that Sethlad is not being rude Maggot, he is having a well earned holiday overseas.

Great to see Hamilton stand up to the bean counters in town and return to racing at their home track. Hopefully a few other clubs might be able to do similar in coming years.
