Harry and friends beat Riewoldt

I think Geelong played the perfect game against Reiwoldt by playing Taylor on him.

It has been stated that most teams will play through whoever Taylor's man is, so Bomber and crew decided to put Taylor on him knowing that when the Saints midfielders came towards their attacking 50 they would see Reiwoldt vs Taylor and kick there everytime, even if a better option was available they would go to Reiwoldt. Knowing this, the other Geelong defenders in Scarlett, Harley and Milburn would be ready to pounce on Reiwoldt as soon as the kick was delivered towards him and make it a 2-3 on 1 in every aerial contest, therefore completely nullifying Reiwoldt into spectator.

Im not saying Taylor wasnt able to do it himself, he did win a few 1-on-1 contests with his fist, but having a 2-on-1 or even 3-on-1 is a much better chance for us.

Its like the Aussie cricketers, they target the oppossition captain and when he fails the rest will fail with him.

Brilliant:D

I think you've read a little bit too much into it really.

It's simply a case of Riewoldt playing up around half forward all day, so we put our CHB on him. Whilst Kosi played deep from the goalsquare so we put our FB on him. It's a bit far- fetched to assume it was designed to create 3v1's all day long, it was a matter of defensive structure.

I personally never anticipated Scarlo would go to Roo unless he played exclusively closer to goal which he didn't. Scarlett has never played on Roo, he always goes to the stronger power forward such as Gerhig or Kosi at FF. Why fix what isn't broken?

Do you see this as a viable option for Franklin if that match up should eventuate, given that the other Hawks forwards are far more dangerous than what St Kilda had built around Riewoldt ?

Tough one, because as you said the Hawks have better backup than the Saints do. I think it could be worth trying but if it doesnt work then it has to be changed quickly because it will be in the GF.

We'll most likely go with Scarlett and use some rough tactics i'd imagine, try and get Buddy's mind wandering.

If franklin kicks 5 I think his opponent can walk away and feel he had a pretty good game.
My guess Taylor will get him at times as will Mackie. Scarlett will only go to him if he is on the FF line. Harley will play as a floater trying to impact the contest infront of the FF (Roughead), 20-40m from goal. Hunt will probably get Williams. Enright on Osbourne or Stokes?

I think Franklin has those opponents covered, and proved so in Round 17, but I maintain that the biggest loss for you blokes that night was Milburn, and he'll make all the difference in any finals we (may) play against each other.

Seriously smart player, and whilst he might not be ON Franklin or Roughie, he'd zone off well and impact the contests.

I love Harry in the side (his no Matthew LOL I still miss him :() very good on Riewoldt his a great pick up by the cats....:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

While thats true, majority of forward entries go through Franklin so we will still be allowed the leniency to have someone drop off their player and create a 2 on 1. Not to mention midfielders like Rooke etc etc give a better defensive chop out to our defence then most in the league.

I actually think Egan is one of the few players in the league who along with the rest of our defensive unit will go alright on Franklin. Athletic, quick and MASSIVE, cant wait to have him back.
