Harvs agenda on his use of palms is now a very disappointing situation.Harvs seems to be putting himself before the club.Surely freo would be better playing palms and letting him develop ,it will only help us get a better compensation pick if palms is off to GWS.The way it stands we will be lucky to get a second rounder for palms.

Doesn't make sense to me and hasn't the whole season. The only think I can think of is maybe Harves knows he has signed at GWS. Even so we need him at the moment, in the guts.

The GWS speculation is irrelevant.

What's important is that Rhys is a shit sub. He's a guy that runs all day who makes poor decisions and doesn't use the ball well and is down in confidence. He needs to either be in the 21 for Fremantle or the 22 for East Fremantle.

What would people consider a reasonable return from Rhys in a full game, I'd say around 20 possessions at 65% efficiency and hopefully 1 goal. So if he comes on for the final term having 5 possessions including 2 turn overs would be around "par". How does that help us win the game?

If Harvey's too soft to drop Johnson then atleast make him sub next week.

Ffs what is it with palmer on this forum. He is not getting game time because he has played maybe 4 good quarters all year. It doesn't matter where he is put on the field if he is our 'saviour' he would have cut it up anywhere, but he hasn't. I really hope he gets his stuff together but if he doesn't it is not harveys fault.

A power midfielder will show his class anywhere on the field and that's that

Ofcourse it's Harvey's fault. Rhys is either
a) Among our best midfielders and should be played there.
or
b) Rhys isn't good enough to get a gig in the middle but Harvey thinks Rhys is a good option as a forward/sub which he isn't.

Apparently the compo is worked out based on the $$$$$ offered in the contract. If that's the case it makes no difference what we do with Palmer now considering the contract would have already been signed.

It makes sense to play Palmer sparingly (and give younger guys roles) if he's definately gone, and leave him out when more senior players come back. But it doesn't make sense playing Pav in the middle when Palmer is available, and when we are playing games with a view to playing in the finals.

Or

c) rhys isn't playing well enough to get a gig in the middle and is just hanging on by playing as a flanker and a sub because there is no one better to take his place due to injuries.

Bottom line is - shithouse use of Palmer today. Put him on the ground and in mid all day or not at all. He's not an effective sub or an impact player. I hope Harves realises this now and doesn't do it again, surely he can't think that today was the role Harves wanted him to play...

Palmer is a fringe player like roberton, jvb, pitt, Pearce, and co. To get in the middle he needs to lift.

Rather than criticise harves for what he did, or didnt do why don't people suggest who would be a better sub? The sub has not really worked at all as many thought it would, but what sort of player should we use? No one seems to know.

or c) We instead play Hinkley, Anthony, Michie, Mellington, Shepheard etc etc etc.

When you're scraping the bottom of the barrell, you're going to to get some dregs. The only reason Palmer is getting a game is because he's less shit than the rest.

Ibbotson, Palmer, Pearce, Giff, Clarke, Johnson, VB, Crichton and Anthony are all in the picture these days while stocks are low, none of them would get a run in any typical grand final team.

We are going to be in a fair bit of pain until Barlow, McPhee, 211, Snos, Suban return. We just gotta ride it out. On paper we shouldn't have won as much of the ball as we did today.

I'd rather we are in these straits mid season than at the business end. Make the eight and see who we have to choose from come first week of finals.

But if you're picking someone to be an impact (sub) forward, wouldn't you punt on Bucovaz or Anthony instead of Palmer. Pick Palmeras a midfielder or don't pick him.

Walters and Johnson spring to mind because they're impact players. Crowley, VanBerlo or Pearce would be better options too because they can fill a role. What was Rhys' role today?

If I had to have Walters, Hinkley, Bucovaz or Palmer in a forward pocket in the 4th quarter with the game on the line Rhys would be my 4th choice.

Doesn't take contested marks, doesn't apply forward pressure, has poor footskills, and doesn't have much confidence kicking for goal.

Makes no sense whatsoever. So your telling me for Palmer to get into the midfield, he needs to lift as a forward? When he clearly is a midfielder ? FFS he played a great game against Port, then gets dropped back to the forwardline.

That's easy to say now, but when's the last time Ibbotson played for East Fremantle? Or Johnson for Perth (other than when he was suspended for misdemeanors).

And if Griiffin and Anthony have only been picked because we're scraping the bottom of the barrell, why bring them to the club?

I don't think you can put any blame on Palmer.

He was subbed on in the fourth and put on the half forward flank....... We got smashed in the middle in the last quarter and they stick him forward... He is a midfielder for a reason.

Very strange decision I thought - I saw him go to a hff for the bounce halfway through the final quarter despite Freo getting reamed in the clearances in the final term. Thought his grunt was needed on the ball. Couldn't understand Harvs' logic there.
