If memory serves our last choice of coach came down to a selection between Bailey & Hardwick (happy to stand corrected). I'm happy enough with how Bailey has handled things but can't help wondering how Hardwick might have gone given what he has done with Richmond over the past 6 weeks. I think most of us would agree we have a superior list to the Tigers but what Hardwick has done recently has been miraculous. Having a gun forward has helped but what could he have done with our list?

I have a theory on the tiges i'd like to share.
I reckon right now they are about where we were when we won three in a row. A young side, full of confidence, maybe only now starting to be fully respected as a genuine competitor by other teams. The element of surprise might start to wear off soon, however,
if their game plan gets a bit more scrutiny, a la as ours did after we had a short period of success.
But having someone like Riewoldt also helps, seems even double teaming him doesnt work atm.
A few great games to be coming up in the next few years between these two proud clubs, I reckon

no hardwick not even a little bit, i have a bad feeling about him for richmond... my kanga fan mates were ecstatic when he was passed through

Bailey doesn't feel like a premiership coach really. Brad Scott does.

I'd take Dean over Hardwick, at least at the moment. Let's wait till the end of 2011 and see what happens then.. lol

Just re-visiting my original post. Not witch hunting but I reckon 10 months has made a difference to a few opinions.

Talk to me when they've actually done something. We won three straight last year and look how that's turned out.

My thoughts too. I might just be bitter (in fact I'm sure I am) but remember we beat Brisbane early last year (by about 50 points IIRC) when they were touted as top four material and then they fell in a heap. Maybe same will happen with Freo?

might have gone a week early on this one....

Epic self ownage.

Good on you for at least admitting it!

Not quite D_One levels yet though, keep plugging along!

I'm still wondering. Tigers have made tangable, incrementle progress pretty much every year. Admire the way Hardwick goes about his business. Hope it takes them all the way. Almost seems parallel to Thompson/Geelong. Not interested in slagging Bailey or pre judging Nield but it seems a toss of the coin could have seen us in a much stronger position.

I just put it down to bad recruiting - ever since Neal Daniher was in charge, we failed to recruit a decent number of forwards and filled up our midfield with past it rejects from other clubs. 5-6 years on, it is why we have a lack of leadership down forward and in the midfield.

Mistake 2 was Bailey and his grandplan to rebuild the list with kids. Not sure how he ever thought that they could pull it off.

I am sure Neeld is aware of this, Clark and Magner but there isn't much you can do in one preseason.

He'd be better of identifying the kids he thinks can make it and play them as much as he can because the likes of Davey, Green and Moloney really are not apart of our future.

Would people stop claiming that it was Bailey's idea to rebuild with kids. It was a group decision, clearly, and it included people like Prendergast and Jim among a few others. Stop pointing fingers and playing favourites. Scapegoat free-zone.

he set the direction - I am sure he had the final say rather than the board. So you think the board designed the gameplan, decided upon the the strategy.

He would have been encouraged to take that path but, even if he wanted to go against that he didn't have the strength, game plan or anything else to support it. He went with the kids and it backfired on him and the club as a whole horribly and we are now paying the price for that mistake.

Watch successive finals between Collingwood and Geelong coached by Bomber Thompson and Mick Malthouse who were hired the same year that we hired Danny Frawley.

Then look at Frawley on After the Bounce and ask how you can sit opposite this bloke and then say "Hey lets hire him as our coach"

Then get back to me about wondering how things would have turned out.

Cant really compare malthouse, he had won a flag couching WCE.

But bomber, yes.

Atleast frawley got you to a final :)
