Look I am in favour of the club giving the lad a 2-year deal but what if we can not reach agreement.

Our options are - he plays on 1 year deals but with an attitude issue (never good at a footy club) or we deal him at the trade table.

If he gets dealt - forced trade kind of thing ...we would be lucky to get a late 2nd rounder and perhaps just a 3rd rounder from a top up team near the top.

If it is keep an unhappy camper or trade him what would you do?

I'd keep but I think if the club deal him it is almost understandable - poor attitudes can be a big risk.

Obviously the club looks to have made its mind up on the 2 year scenario ...it is not on the table.

You're kidding if you think any club will part ways with a 2nd round pick for Haze, I cant understand why anyone would advocate a two year deal either. It's just bad manangement.

Interesting that he was the only player yesterday who went to a few parts of the ground to acknowledge the crowd.
Farewell appearance?

The club can afford him for 2 years, hes coming on to the veterans list soon aswell.

Its time the club looked after players that stick with a club. We demand loyalty from players to to stick with a club and risk there futures so the club should return some loyalty.

The risk is minimal, he has been a great servant to the club and promotes a healthy strong culture. Even if he doesnt reacha greater level of performance and maintains the current level - his input and experience to the up and coming midfielders will be extremely valuable.

The game is quicker and Hasleby lack of leg speed is starting to hurt even more. One year deal on average wage is fair and justified in regards to salary cap space.

I agree!!

I love Hase and hope he stays, but the club is bigger than him. One year deals are the way forward for an ageing player, especially a slow player in a game speeding up each year. I read or heard recently that Rob Harvey signed 6 odd one year deals in his last years.
To say the risk is minimal doesn't take into account that we miss drafting a player (or upgrading a rookie) if he is not good enough to go on in 2011. Remember Broughton was our last (rookie) pick in 08.

Lets say that another club is interested....why would they trade for him? Chances are there wouldn't be any other clubs interested in him, so they would just take him for free in the PSD.

If I were in charge, I'd be offering him a 1 year deal at his current price or a 2 year deal at a reduced rate. Either way, it wont be a lot of money for a guy who will finish top 5 in our B&F.

Sticking with a club often just means they're on an easy wicket. Fremantle's rarely been a club that's expect much of their players. Not a slight on Hasleby, but for many of our players other than Pav and Sandi, they'd be expected to work a lot harder for possibly less pay.

My opinion of Haselby is always up and down...Some weeks I love the guy, others I have serious issues.

End of the day though he is one of our greats and obviously still has allot of football ability. Add in the fact we need him as a player and a mentor for our younger kids mean's I suppose he has the upper hand.

As mentioned no club is going to give us a second round pick for him so trade option IMHO unless forced is a net loss.

There may be an arguement that he deserves to be included in the Sandilands/Pavlich group that are the exception to the 2 year contract rule.

Personally I don't think he is the worlds best bloke, on or off the field...I think he can be lazy and the game is definitely getting to fast for him.

BUT

We need him, so give him two years.

I doubt very much Robert Harvey was forced to accept a 1 year deal after he'd just turned 28 though. Fair enough 30+ but Hase still by far our best in and under midfielder.

I suspect (hope...:o;)) that Hase was simply giving a bit back to the fans by giving them an elongated fairwell after our last home game of the year. Which shows how much of a great clubman he really is.

We were all pissed off when Warnock wasn't loyal and buggered off back home. The club should demonstrate some loyalty of it's own here.

2 years. First year standard pay, second year performance based.

I think we all love Hase. Geez even the yellowbacks love him but as said earlier the club is bigger than him.
With Palmer coming back next year Hase will be more of a chop out (pardon the pun;)) for Rhys rather than a starting on baller. 1 year is fine with me, then lets get this guy on the coaching panel. He has massive respect in football in WA and is arguably the smartest fotballer along with Peter Bell to wear the purple.

Hence the 'would be lucky'

Isn't Haze in "Contract Negotiations". Negotiations being carried out by his appointed representative and some bloke in Melbourne who represents the club? Negotiations are just that negotiations, argie / bargie. It's all about process so let the process happen. No one here knows the intimate details so take a deep breath and wait for an official announcement. As far as I'm concerned he's in the 22 and until told otherwise that's how it is.

Pro 2 year deal here.

But I don't think he will get it. He will end up getting a higher salary for a one year deal with a few options clauses thrown in his contract, whereby if he plays a certain amount of games he will be gauranteed a contract renewel at the same or a higher pay. however if he doesn't make the games, then he will have to renegotiate for the same or less pay than his last contract.

will definitley still be at Freo next year, don't worry about that.

Geoff - the 'What If' part of the post means it is a hypothetical - just interested if it comes down to go or an unhappy camper which one people would prefer.

Smart man that Haze. He probably just did that lap to throw the club off into thinking hes gunna retire if they dont offer him a 2 year deal. Great negotiation skills.

That was 10 years ago. The game has changed dramatically since then. Other clubs have been doing this for years. Hasleby won't get 2 years anywhere. If he's prepared to walk for the same deal as he can get at Fremantle then you're better off without him.

And Robert Harvey was a 2 times Brownlow Medalist...
