Walking out across Birrarung Marr. I heard worst two buskers I've ever heard. One bloke was playing a guitar in a completely random fashion whilst some girl was making some vocal noise. They were bloody awful and no one was giving them anything. I think they called themselves Heidi and Michael and they sucked. Yet I'd still rather pay good coin to watch them than spend 50c to watch North play for 5mins this afternoon. We sucked the big left testy. God that was shit.

Positives - Sydney beat Freo, Port beat WCE and Saints beat *.
- I was interstate & unable to watch the game today
- by all reports we were abhorrent today, yet remain equal 4th on % going into next week

Negatives - Freo now on the rebound
- I took a 9 game multi with 8 games at the 'under' (all 170-180 ish points), into North H2H :(

When the big occasion is there, NM are still soft, when the expectation is not there, NM have a chance.

We were flat and that was evident. Collingwood were very hungry and were willing to work harder then us.

That being said some of our tactics are very confusing. Why have Currie and Petrie in the forward line at the same time? I don't mind Currie coming in if he is playing ruck but starting him in the square is asking for trouble. Neither of them can take a mark so soon as the ball hits the ground we get smashed by running half backs such as Sidebottom and Fasola. Goldy coming in just makes it even worse. He is pretty much useless other then getting tap outs to no one.

Why don't our forwards ever lead? They just stand stagnant. Petrie on a lead should be unstoppable but for some reason he doesn't.
If Sidebottom is clearly dominating across half back would you not get someone to play somewhere at least near him???? The coaching today was woeful.

If it's evident that Cloke is a target early on and is marking everything that comes his way would you not have an extra get into the front of him to stop his run and have a 3rd man up to spoil. Do any of our coaching staff watch Hawthorn games FFS?

Too many other things to comment on such as crap handballs to players standing still , kicks going to the feet and so many times just banging long to a Collingwood player waiting back to take an easy mark.

Finally just play Majak Daw. At least he is mobile and will make a lead and can play in the ruck when Goldy needs a rest.

We are not a strong enough squad (yet) to cover the loss of Swallow, Ziebell, Tarrant and MacMillan.

We could have really used a defensive winger like JMac today.

Garner, Wood and Harper are still massive pieces of the puzzle long term.

I am a fan of Brad Scott and think that we have a pretty good coach but today we were beaten in the coaches box badly. To a frustrated fan it looks like the coaches just sat on their hands all day and did nothing. In reality there would have been alot of discussion in the box on what structural changes should be made and what players could be moved so we could get back into the game....... but then nohing changed......why?

I would really love to hear an explanation from Scott on the tactics he used and why he never went to "Plan B" (if it even exists)?

Although the conditions were different it really reminded me of the Gold Coast debacle last season. We were getting smashed after quarter time while they had Mckenzie behind the ball all on his own mopping up absolutely everything and for some reason we just let him do that for 3 whole quarters and never looked like getting back into the match.

Dsposal was terrible
Decision making terrible
Kick ins terrible
Second and third to the ball

Very lucky to get within six goals. At least all of the above are easy to fix.

our never ending issue ....kick ins, the pies were hitting targets on our 50 metre line all day, we again seem to really struggle with this..

I actually completely disagree with you, game was lost on a team that showed hardly any intensity, extremely poor foot and hand skills, decision making of children, leadership that appeared to be non existant, and the funny thing is after playing that bad and we were that bad, take nothing away from the pies who were great, the scores after half time were 3.9 to 3.7 , you or me could have been in the coaches box when the players skills are that bad....

Anyone know if Tippet can play forward?
I know Lachie can...

Judging by the general consensus of our forward line yesterday how could lachie-fwd/Tippett-back be any worse than currie-fwd/Lachie back?

At least until maj/taz come back in? I dunno, it just seems like a logical option in the interim.

Turnovers and a malfunctioning forward line. Painful game to watch.

I was always intrigued by gridiron plays, how they would set up and put their plans into action. each player knew where to stand and how the ball movement would occur.
Yesterday it appeared that Collingwood had a 'play book' on their ball movement. As soon as one player received the ball he knew instinctively where his team mates were going to be positioned in that 'play'. With pinpoint accuracy by foot and hand they played 'keepings off' with us. Everyone knows in keepings off that the chaser gets frustrated and drops off their chasing intensity. I hate to admit it, but Collingwood were terrific yesterday. They played to a game plan that they understood clearly. Each player had a role. It only comes undone when the opposition upsets your plan by its own rapid movement and pinpoint accuracy by hand and foot. We are poor in this area and we paid the price.
I watched StKilda dismantle the Bombers last night. They took possession of the ball and didn't turn it over. Essendon couldn't put their keepings off game into effect because the Saints kept the ball from them. Young kids with great foot skills to leading team mates running into space. Perhaps they stole Collingwood's play book?

Hopefully it was a flat week but I would like to see some changes for next week.

McKenzie has to go IMO he doesn't ever have time to use the impressive foot I keep hearing about. Currie stuffs up the structure. McDonald has been awesome but had a shocker, as a first year player they could do worse than give him a rest. Nahas was great against the Swans and gets dropped? It's like Greenhead all over again, play the guys in form. Majak kicked 5 in the ressie's put him in.

The frustration for me is that we appeared setup for a tough return. Shorter break from a wet weather slog interstate. Every team in the competition pulls up flat after these. We essentially go in with the same team except Currie who realistically isn't going to provide run. We have made this mistake before, too worried about rewarding the winning team and not thinking about how we can inject enough fresh legs. It seemed a game setup for bringing through a couple of fresh runners for some of the guys who have been dragging us over the line for the last 3 weeks.

You can forget about that one right there, he won't get another contract, you can bookmark that..........

All the talent in the world, but obviously not the mental application for the game.

You realise he's played 25 VFL games and been named in the bests twice? one of those came in the VFL reserves.........

He averages under 10 disposals a game for those 25 games.......

Sad panda.

He's fit, he's strong, he's quick.

Basically, he has it completely over every opponent he lines up on the weekend athletically, but they probably out-produce him by 100%.

Not every player has the nouse to get the ball, he clearly doesn't.

I would like to think that the coaching team and the development team would try every trick in the book before saying "well that's it, we can't salvage anything from Harps as a long-term AFL footballer".

You're right in that it doesn't look good. I do hold out hope he's just developing post-injury.
