Whilst you like to present yourself as knowledgeable and 'not fussed' either way, what a crock. You have under achieved in the last 2 years (Hawks set a high bench mark) running and the premiership window is open. Taz settles your 2nd biggest weakness (speed in the mid-field being your 1st).

You recently traded your first 2 picks for an aging mid with speed and a medium defender who tries hard on the tall's in the last draft. You think they would not consider a second rd pick in a compromised draft?? Probably throw in a Dowler as he is to be de-listed anyway.

It will come down to teams in the top 8, Norths and Taz. If he wants to screw over Freo then so be it we will get bent. Initial impressions is this is not the case so a fair deal will need to be reached.

Agree, thinking about this one, I think pick 18 for taz would be a win win for both clubs. Its almost scary to think of the spine the Hawks would have with Taz in there. You can guarantee that the Hawks supporters will be frothing by the end of the year,

Imagine if Taz played in our Final v Hawks, with Macca raping Buddy Taz would have made it a four way with Mac Bud Ruff n Taz - and we all know who the biatches woulda been!

Hawks will be thinking very hard on this!

would you take say andrew walker/bret thorton from carlton and like a 3rd or second rounder for taz.

You know, I'd consider it, but only if it were Thornton. Purely because we've got enough Walker types in Duffield, Broughton and Hayden and we need a KPD. Thornton is by no means brilliant but he'd definitely help out in defense, which is definitely our weakest area.

I'd be happy with Tarrant and pick 37 for picks 18 and 52. can't see a straight swap for 18 being done.

With the compensation they are getting for Brown wouldn't a straight swap with pick 18 effectively be a Brown for Tarrant trade? Seems fair enough to me.

Better than fair enough. They lose a 27 year old 177cm player and gain a 30 year old 192cm player. Forget age difference - even if Taz plays only two years, at his height he is far more valuable.

Hawks fans might disagree, but I reckon that's a decent trade in favour of them.

Brown would be lucky to see out his 3 year deal at GC as part of their best 22 as well, so as you say, age really is irrelevant.

To take it a step further, forget the players altogether. Who wouldn't give up pick 18 for a really good shot at a flag?

That's a bit like saying that if a club was silly enough to give us pick 20 for Schammer that we should trade pick 20 for someone of slightly more value than Schammer.

The fact that they're getting over the odds on Brown won't impact what they're willing to part with for Tarrant. Why give us 18 when the club will probably accept pick 35?

They might not be planning to use the Brown pick this year anyway (assuming it's at the end of the first round it'll be around pick 26/27 this year but will be pick 19/20 in 2012/13).

Keeping with the silly theme - surely we would have to take that trade :)

I'm talking simply in terms of a Brown for Tarrant trade.

But further to that Tarrant has more than 'slightly more' value than Brown, so your analogy is pretty crap. Why even make the Schammer comparison anyway?

Brown can't hold a key position, is even short for a midfielder, and has tapered off heavily since his AA year. Tarrant was as good this year as any time in the last four.

Hawthorn are faced with a problem. The bulk of their midfield is around 27 years old. Not much time to snag another premiership with that lot. Young KPPs won't come on in time.

If we got around pick 35 for Tarrant in a trade to Hawthorn I'd be disappointed with the club.

Agree with all of that and especially the bolded.
Taz is easily worth pick 18, he's going back home with a HAPPY MISSUS, the club will surely know this and use it to our advantage. Any married man will tell you "as long as theyre happy, I'm happy". The club that gets him is going to get 3 years easily out of one of the best 3 full backs in the game.

On Brown, I reckon he'll be lucky to last 1 year let alone 3 - so good on him, he got a payrise. The suns will be shaking their heads in a years time, and anyone that watched freo v hawks final would agree - hes to short, to slow, cant kick, to old and and thinks he's really tough due to is old mans deeds , and he's a sniper (pointing at Lloyd - I'm gonna get you!! - "yeah right sawn off") Suck it Suns, well done Hawks.

Now trade your bloody pick for Brown to us for Taz!!

How can you confidently say that though? How many 33 year olds are in the competition? Brad Johnson, Dustin Fletcher, Barry Hall...maybe 2 or 3 more?? One semi-serious injury when you're past 30 and it's all over.

There's more chance of Tarrant only playing another 20 games than him playing 60+ IMO.

I think trade time comes round and everyone puts their purple coloured glasses on. I wouldn't trade pick 18 for Darren Glass who is the same age as Taz.

That all makes sense I just can't see pick 18 being on the table. We didn't even get a top 20 pick for Warnock.

Yeah, but there's different needs. Carlton could have taken or left Warnock, really. With Brown going for Hawthorn, there is practically no senior quality in defence of any decent size, except for Gibson, who is a bit hit and miss. They've got some reasonable young KPPs, but by the time they've got the physicality, Hdoge, Sewell, Mitchell, etc will be well past their peak. They took a retired, overweight, 28 year old midfielder in Dew in 2007 with pick 45 because they thought he'd add something. Tarrant is still playing, athletic, only two years older, and can hold a key position. Surely he'd be worth a pick around the 20 mark?

Glass has soft tissue problems. None of Taz's injury issues are chronic niggles.

I cant confidently say anything, its all unknown, and yeah everyone puts their purple glasses on. The fact that the Hawks got pick 18 (roughly) for Brown suggests that we should get around the same for Taz.

Check your last two posts - Your agreeing with Clay Davis "it all makes sense" That they can get 18 for Brown, but what, we cant for Taz??? Taz is worth far more than Brown. And I reckon he'll play more games than Brown - there ya go.

No one traded a pick for Brown though MI, it was determined by a formula (which evidently is quite flawed).

If Campbell Brown was up for trade I wouldn't give them pick 37 for him.

Compensation for Taz - I just hope that if we don't get good enough compensation we don't settle - let him go to PSD and hope a lesser light club pick him up. There's no need to be helping any club in premiership mode the next few seasons when we are in that window the same time.

This draft is compromised and lower round picks are next to worthless so why help your competition just to get most-likely nothing in return?

So play hardball.

We could of lost Taz to retirement so lets get something for him. I heard today that he would prefer to go back to the pies, so what about Taz for Leon Davis and Paul Medhurst. Both are same age bracket as Taz and offer very good skills as midfielders/forwards.

I would be happy with this as earlier in the year I was resigned to losing Taz for nothing and I was pissed off when we traded Medhurst years ago. Both these guys add X factor up forward and midfield depth. I think our backline next year will be fine with Grover, McPharlap, Johnson, Silvani and Sibo coming through. Some experience would be an asset to the team next year
