As such he should fit in better culturally at the Hawks, rather than with the colonial ersatz Hooray Henrys, those pox ridden comparadorial scum who in reality are lumpen Melbourne establishmentariat wing the Liberal party at play, who masquerade as the so called "Melbourne" Football Club.

This is the best post I've read on BigFooty!

Cry 'havoc!' and let slip the dogs of war... !

Anyone else a bit worried that the reason we picked Johnson was because we are a bit unsold on whether Bailey will play again?

Yes -looks like this is clearly a concern. Good to see the club not taking any chances of us playing Hodge, Schoey and Ruffy in the ruck again this year

Okay next question.................what has Paul Johnson been doing all pre-season?

Dont think its a never play again issue but more can he play a full game, week in week out, this year. He probably cant, at least until the latter half of the year at best.

Johnson was the right move the only question is where the hell has he been?

Someone must know what his status is, its been asked a few times and no answers as yet.

He's been upstairs playing Suduko and Scrabble...

Good question...i have not seen him at all.
Has he been injured ?

Any conincidence his best performance in hit outs was against us last year, although of the four ruckmen on the ground that day, he had the least. Getting spooky, Bruce also topped the Dees possession count that day and had the equal second most touches for the game.

I had a strong feeling this would be the outcome, at the end of the day we're a business, and our goal is premierships. Travis couldn't contribute to that, while Johnson has potential to be invaluable if we cop a ruck injury. I'm also a fan of him being a big body 105kg gives him some strength in the ruck, our heaviest player...

I find it interesting that Clarko played for NM and Melb, and coached at PA and we've grabbed:
NM: Hale, Gibson
Melb: Bruce, Cheney, Johnson
PA: Burgoyne, Dew, Guerra, Gilham

Just amusing coincidence I guess ;)

I feel for Travis but unfortunately his dumping was brought on by his own doing.

I would have loved for him to get another chance and I think the Hawks deep down would have wanted to keep Tucky but our Ruck stocks needed a backup plan in so the decision was based on team personal.

Selecting Johnson is a smart move for our chances this year.

Hopefully Tucky can get himself right, play some good footy (hopefully at Box Hill) and we can look at drafting him next year. Fingers crossed as I think the kid has some talent.

Not sure if it has been mentioned in this thread, maybe becuase it is not that relevant, but Richmond ending up passing on adding the additional rookie from their training squad.

The other point is that perhaps we were going to delist Tucky anyway but wanted to save face for both the club and him.

Hasn't seemed to have developed as much as Shiels / Savage have.

Has ordinary foot skills, endurance and speed.

I agree with the decision of no to Tucky (shame though) & yes to the back up ruckman, but don't really get the notion that we got rid of Taylor & the Skipper (Taylor could tap ruck, but nothing else, Skipper better around the ground) for a guy who's been injured all pre season & has already been dumped by 2 clubs......

Hope I'm wrong, & hope even more we don't need him & big Max holds together, but seems like the club don't have much faith either....:(

This is totally irrelevant, but I I just remembered something similar with Ken Judge. If I remember correctly, Judge had earlier coached East Frementle in WAFL, and when he came on board we recruited several East Frementle players including Chick, Hay, Krummel, and Treleven. Anyhow.

We shoudl note that PJ was highly rated as a junior and was pick 24 in the original draft. I know this doesn't mean anything in the end, other than he has some talent.

I think we overate Skipper for what he brought to the team as we desperately needed that second ruck last year. If we had PJ last year, maybe he would have contributed more. Who knows?

As we could have redrafted Skipper in the train-on squad and didn't so I assume PJ is rated higher out of the two by the selection committee.

Werribee wary on Tuck

AFTER the bitter fallout between Melbourne and the Casey Scorpions over Brendan Fevola, the Werribee Tigers are treating their strong interest in Travis Tuck with caution as they seek approval from partially aligned partner North Melbourne.

The Tigers yesterday confirmed they had met with the dumped Hawthorn midfielder and his manager Liam Pickering, but added they were still doing their research and consulting the Kangaroos, who are partially aligned to North Ballarat
