I'd drop Sav before I took out Murphy or Cheney.

In the long run I think

In: Guerra, Hodge, Franklin
Out: (from) Savage, Cheney, Murphy

Will be interesting to see if X can crack the team when fit. Injuries will probably take care of it either way.
Even more interesting to see whether he can actually complete 2 or 3 games in a row at any level without another injury..
I think there is more chance of a Hudson comeback than Ellis playing a part in this seasons finals campaign, nothing wrong with the 22 we fielded today, and you can add Guerra, Hodge, Hill, and Franklin to the list well ahead of him.

I think you've forgotten how good he is when he's at his best. If he can get near that he is 22 for mine. Well ahead of Hill.

As you said he is a slim chance of actually staying fit but if he does...

I remember him well, but i don't see him adding anything to the mix at the moment.
Building a premiership side is very much about keeping a playing group together, they need the skills, however they also need some resilience. X does not inspire much confidence in that regard, he has difficulty stringing games together, and even games he does complete he is often getting running repairs.
I rate Hill (and the rest of that list) ahead of him, beyond the enormous upside with experience and a few preseasons Hill already has the ability to read the play well, provides blistering pace, and has good goal sense.
While X remains on the list i hope he can get himself fully fit and pressure the guys in the best 22, but at the moment i would be surprised if he comes into serious contention.

Team Changes

IN: Guerra
OUT: Cheney

B: Whitecross Gibson Stratton
HB: Birchall Schoenmakers Burgoyne
C: Young Mitchell Lewis
HF: Murphy Gunston Rioli
F: Breust Roughead Puopolo
R: Hale Sewell Shiels

INT: Smith Guerra Suckling Savage (Sub)

EMG: Cheney Hill Bailey

IMO Bailey needs another week in the VFL, Hodge likewise. With Buddy we should rest him for another week and get him cherry ripe for the Geelong game.

Despite their recent lack of form, I can see this easily become Richmond II. And come on, it's the bombers! Must fire up for Sewell.

Some say Hodge shouldnt be played, id be inclined to play him and sub him out during the 3rd quarter or start of the 4th.
I would say you should never play someone with subbing them in mind. What if we have an injury? If you plan on subbing someone, make them the sub and sub them in, rather than out.
Unless of course that's what you mean by "sub him out" in which case, carry on.

You would think that when the following three players get back that these would be the players likely to be omitted from the squad, can not find a spot for Bailey though :(

IN: Guerra Hodge Franklin
OUT: Murphy Cheney Savage

Murphy been great this year. Not in our best 22, but an excellent depth player. Good to know if any of our defenders go down, from Guerra to Stratton, we have Murphy eager on the sidelines.

Hmm its like giving a kid matches and not expecting the house to burn down.

Anyway, before I derail proceedings any further, I'm off. Good luck this week :)

Might also have to bring Gilham back in. Essendon seem to have a lot of talls and with Buddy out still we could use him to rotate Schoey and Murphy up forward.

The obvious issue lies in an injury where Hodge is unable to be subbed out. I am never confident when playing Essendon.

On Savage, I know some players are going to have to be omitted but I think we need to play Savage into form. We will need runners in the warm spring weather. He needs to find his kcking boots and fast. We need a solid squad of 25 heading into september.

Been reading the boards for a long time, but first time posting. A lifelong Hawks fan living in Japan.

You would have to think that Murphy, after 6 clangers out of his 16 disposals, may struggle to retain his place with Guerra coming back. There are other players who could play that lock-down role on one of the opposition's defenders, so can't see him being retained.

Bailey is continuing to impress - but realistically, there is only a spot in the side if we drop Hale, which (barring injury; touch wood) isn't going to happen.

The bigger dilemma is what to do with Hodge. I like the Adam Goodes approach for this week; bring him in as a sub for his first game, to ease him into AFL and give him a taste of the seniors before we face one of our two bogey teams (Geelong; the other being Sydney).

Here I think Savage is the unlucky man to miss out only for the Essendon game. Once Hodgey returns to the starting lineup for the Cats game; I think Cheney becomes the unlucky one - even though I think Smith and to an extent Savage's form have been worse, we need those outside runners and we saw the benefit of having some pace against the Pies yesterday.

Now for the left field thoughts for the team against the Bombers: I thought Gilham was stiff to miss out after a decent showing against the Doggies. He could come back into the side as well, and we could throw Schoenmakers forward again to stretch the Essendon defence. Cheney becomes the man who makes way for this selection.

Essendon have a lot of forwards in general so it'll be interesting to see if any of our defenders are dropped or brought in.

Hille, Davey, Jetta, Monfries & Crameri are all reasonable forwards but none of them really inspire fear like Hurley.

If we are planning on having Hodge for the pussies, then he will need to play against the scum this week. Hopefully he pulls up ok from today's game. Also if Hale is sore at all, might be a good chance to rest him and get some game time into Max

I'd be bringing Hodge back against Gold Coast. Gets some miles in the legs in the VFL.

Besides, not keen on him playing on Etihad without match fitness.

The constant Murphy hate from some is incredible. He was really good today, as he has been other weeks. I wouldn't like to see him dropped.
I'm no Murph hater but if you dont see that he is the 21st or 22nd picked in that team at the moment that you are deluded.

Tom did some good things today but he also had 6 critical errors which for mine is too high when you have 16 touches.
