So HBO have decided to enter True Detective into the Emmys TV show category as opposed to the TV Movie/Miniseries where it's arguably more suited. Bit of a grey area really, particularly given none of the cast are expected to return for the next season.

So this means it'll be True Detective vs Breaking Bad. Not to mention House of Cards and GoT etc.

McConaughy vs Cranston for best actor

Cranston in season 5 of BB was some of the best acting i've ever seen at the time but how do you split these two?

Put this post in breaking bad thread and cranston gets 90% of the vote. put this post in the true detective thread and McConaughy gets 90% of the vote.

Cranston for me and breaking bad to win best show. True detective could have given it a nudge but after episode 5 i thought it lost its way a bit.

Surprised to hear that. Would have phoned in the awards in the Miniseries category.

But that category doesn't have anywhere near the prestige of the TV Drama category. They're hoping that they snag the win in that one and get buckets of fans for season 2. Personally, I'd be happy for any of Breaking Bad/True Detective/House of Cards to win. Same as best actor - they would all be deserving winners!

Yes...same...this years Golden Globes was filled with punch the air high fives as the TV winners were announced.

This years Emmy's are almost worth having the day off sick..........just sayin.

But Landgraf believes the advantage is not in the weight of the competition, but in the kind of actors a project can attract when its is asking only for a single season commitment, rather than the seven-year contract which is typical of a US series deal.

"To tell you the truth, I think it's actually unfair for HBO to put True Detective in the drama series category because essentially you can get certain actors to do a closed-ended series," he said, citing Thornton in Fargo, and Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in True Detective, as prime examples.

It is hard to compare Breaking Bad's wrapping up of a five season storyline with TD's one standalone season with A list movie stars.

Finished watching this yesterday. Great series, MM is getting a lot of kudos for his work (and rightly so) but I actually liked Woody's character more, those two had a great dynamic.

Found the dialogue a bit hard to follow at times (maybe it was the thick Southern accents), best episode was #4 "Who goes there".

And for what it's worth, in my opinion Breaking Bad has got this covered fairly comfortably, but splitting Bryan Cranston and MM is a much harder task. Flip a coin.

Just finished watching this - absolutely brilliant!

Story, cinematography, production and acting all superb.

Yeah Pitt would be an interesting choice, fantastic actor and I'll be stoked if he's named in fact I'm sure he'd have done a good job as Rust himself but now I just hope they can give him (or whoever) a character and storyline different enough to make it work.

Two middle aged detectives working a serial killing case in small town America? Very easy to end up with too many comparisons especially if they go with any tie in at all to the Yellow King. I'd rather they take a chance on creating some new dynamic that works as well as the first season whatever that is, rather than trying to repeat it.

Another really big risk is all the easter eggs and red herrings they included in the first season. I thought it worked great and had a lot of fun noticing them or hearing about them later without really expecting much from them in following episodes. They are so much a part of the feel and success of the first series but getting that balance right in season two can't be easy.

Saw the red herrings, but a bit of a dunce on easter eggs...are you able to elaborate?

It's going to be very different.

It's not going to be in the South and it's likely one or both of the detectives will be female.

The next season of “True Detective” will be about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system,” says series creator Nic Pizzolatto.

The biggest reservation i have about Season 2 is that Cary Fukunaga won't be back.

I read somewhere that CJF will be back, just not directing, he'll be in more a production role because of other commitments

If they get Arkapaw back as DP then no worries.

But if they decide to go a different director for each episode then maybe the gloss starts to wear off. Though watching something like Hannibal, and they've managed to keep the visual aesthetic that David Slade set in the pilot incredibly well.

Recent rumors have stated series creator Nic Pizzolatto was seeking a female-driven cast for Season 2 of the hit HBO series, and now today, Nerdist has learned exclusively one of the names that may be on the bill in 2015: Jessica Chastain.

According to sources, the Zero Dark Thirty actress has been offered a leading role in the second season but has yet to accept. As for official confirmation, we reached out to representatives for Chastain, who have declined to comment at this time.

I'm okay with this.
