Cornes for Columbia, Shaw for Siberia, Ayres for the Rock, Craig for Karparkistan.

Just leaves the messiah and rumour had it the players had turned on him by the end of 99.

Long live the "Brilliant" (with a 33% WL finals record and 31% WL record against top 4 sides) Craigy.

I don't get why the media keep telling us this bloke was a great coach. He achieved no success of any note.

I still wanted him saved though :)

Its funny because imo, his record is no better than Gary Ayres. Yet you talk about Gary Ayres to Crows fans and you start to see the eye twitch, the blood rush to the face and the veins pop as they spew a minutes worth of vitriol, whereas Craig - who has a horrible finals record, a horrible record in important matches against good sides and who had a complete inability to make vital changes on match day makes him "brilliant" and "a legend". In my opinion he was close to the worst match day coach in the league. Time and time again they'd fall over against decent sides or in important matches.

Its just a situation where the facts are glossed over because he talked the talk and was a nice, articulate guy. The supporters lapped up his talk in 05 and 06 and in the end it was always someone elses fault in their eyes - Injuries, Parvo Virus, Knees, Matt Thomas, umpiring, Victorians, Gary Ayres, Jack Anthony or that "he took over such a shit list"

Great bloke, lovely guy, a real thinker and a superb off season planner, but in no way a brilliant coach.

Neil Craig didn't have Neil Craig backing him up.

On Footy Classified last night Caro said Craig couldn't go back to the crows so Port should look at getting him in to support Matty Primus.

I'm not sure we want to help save him that much.

He has proven success as a number 2 so maybe...

I doubt it though as like many 55 years olds he is a Camry Crow for life. I love how they all have selective amnesia about the first 35 years of their lives before the corporation existed.

Who did you abandon to support the hybrid camry's?

We have let Port Adelaide down by not helping save Nil Craig.

It's the "let down factor" of Gary Ayres, coming in after the Bradbury Premierships, plus that classic insular, unhealthy "For All South Australians" mentality that's ready to crucify anyone from the outside, especially a Vic (or anyone from here that dares to try leaving the small pond), that's what has Neil Craig rated higher in their fans minds.

No matter what they do, he is one of theirs, to rate him low is to rate themselves low. Cows board has been filthier than ours was during Choco's protracted demise, the bile of depression punctuated by fits of typically bipolar enthusiasm. Did I say unhealthy ?

The media has a lot to answer for in this regard.

Just compare how different the coverage is from Craig's 'resignation' to Choco's 'termination'.

Essentially the same scenario but polar opposite reaction by the media. Why is that?

I got through to page 6 of the %$%&ing collective eulogy when I started spitting out my coffee this morning.

Not like there's anything else going on in the world. Cadel got 1 page, the Norwegian loon even less, the imminent US financial default...

Did Judge or Melthouse get as much of a send off in WA ? No chance. It's not conscious bias. It's not even the "65:35" split between our tribe and theirs. It's just that the Crows are "the team for all South Australians". The "they are part of us, we are part of them" BS pseudo-state team mentality. Criticism is self censored, because it reflects on the person doing it. A culture. </spit> We're trying not to be part of that thank **** so we are going to cop it from time to time.

Here's a headline I'd have liked to see, OK, ideally in Melbourne, just for the ambiguity: "Craig Reaction Exposes Adelaide's Fear of Future".

I bet if you had a random poll of who was the better coach between Choc and Neil, 85% of people would choose Neil despite an inferior record in pretty much any statistical measure.

That is so true. Conscious bias would indicate their acceptance of something to be biased against. We don't even exist in their world except in abstract terms. Still at least it's been pleasant flying under the radar for a while. Almost time for the Keith Thomas rumour again ...

By the way ... 6 pages of it - what were you thinking? That is some serious masochism.

We should go after Gary Ayres not Craig. An ex hard bastard back pocket player who has played 250+ games in defence - 5 premierships, 2 Norm Smiths would make a good defensive assistant coach. He would toughen up our back men.

Recruiting Ayres would truely ruffle a few feathers.

LOL, 85%, assuming random polling and usual 65:35 split, would mean a majority of Port fans voted for Neil Craig. Ignoring the tiny minority voting based on actual footy knowledge (!) most votes would be determined by...

a) reactions to personalities, one more polarizing than the other, one sometimes incomprehensible, the other sometimes inaudible

b) the "unconscious media bias" that is the eyes & ears of "bandwagoner" supporters on both sides and floods the background of such "debates"

c) the different bar set by the two groups of hard core fans, Crowbies far more likely to be content with multiple inconsequential finals appearances without even a grand final to show for it, let alone a flag.

d) aaand if you don't get swept up by a) b) or c), back your own club.

Not exactly a science project. More a "media studies" project.

It's interesting that The Age report Craig has been ruled out as a senior assistant to Neeld at Melbourne. But they noted if Burns had won the Melbourne job Craig would have been his senior assistant.

So if Burns does get the crows job could Craig stay on to haunt their supporter base?

C'mon Craigy don't break the ties that bind! ;)

I saw that today. Had to double-check to make sure I wasn't imagining it.

If anybody can't be bothered clicking the link, it's a story about why being in your 20's sucks, and after writing about how people older than you don't respect your opinions, the author posted this picture:

Wonder if they've ever heard him speak?
Or when he would watch a training session in footy shorts and footy socks pulled right up?
