I've been asked to put together a cd for a 2 hour lesson with grades 5 & 6 (10 - 12 year olds).

It should be at least partly educational but fun as well.

Anyway, what I've decided to do, is a cd of Australian music from the past ... 50 years or so, I suppose. Only problem is, I'm no expert on Australian music. If anyone has any suggestions on music that would be suitable, it would be muchly appreciated (especially some of the older stuff)

cheers.

Noiseworks - Take Me Back (2 or 3 of them were Aussies, right?)
Moving Pictures - What About Me?
Joe Dolce - "Shaddup You Face" would also get a laugh but is a bit risky in these oh-so politically correct times.

There'd also have to be some Paul Kelly, John Farnham, Easybeats and maybe John paul Young.

Jacko's "I'm An Individual" and "My Brain Hurts" would be interesting too...

Artists only... I would seek out songs from these singers.

Late 1950`s Johnny O`Keefe, Col Joye, Delltones,Tex Morton

1960`s B Gees, Peter Allen,Slim Dusty,Easybeats

1970`s Billy Thorpe,Russell Morris,Daryl Braithwaite,John
Farnham

Perhaps you could get a copy of the ABC Program "a long way to the top" and edit.
Tex Morton and Slim Dusty are Country singers.

also........

Midnight Oil - River Runs Red(That song gets me pumped up:D)
Australian Crawl - Errol.......They'll love that :p

Aggels - I wish you where my grade 6 teacher ;)

Given the age of the students you obviously need to be careful about the lyrical content of the songs. That rules out about 3/4 of my CD collection.

Anyhow I still have some suggestions for you:
The 60's - Easybeats, The Loved Ones, The Atlantics, The Masters Apprentices, Russell Morris, Daddy Cool, Billy Thorpe.

The 70's - Skyhooks, The Saints, Radio Birdman, AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, Lobby Loyde, Ted Mulry Gang, Hush, Sherbert.

The 80's - Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, Le Hoodoo Gurus, Australian Crawl, Paul Kelly, The Models, The Go-Betweens, Gangajang, The Celibate Rifles, Hunters and Collectors, Warumpi Band

The 90's - Weddings, Parties, Anything; You Am I, Mark of Cain, The Cruel Sea, Dave Graney, Tumbleweed, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Custard

The 00's - Kasey Chambers, Powderfinger, H-Block 101, Spiderbait, Pre Shrunk, Nitocris, Dan Brodie and the Broken Arrows.

These are all Aussie bands who have grouse Aussie songs. Hope it helps. Cheers
