Because he didn't have an opponent once he did he missed AA selection, pretty straight forward. Put an opponent on him and he struggled leading to being dropped this year.
Mmmm and you think Henderson won't have that happen to him ......is he better one on one than Reilly??

I say he was successful ....you say he wasn't .....where's that discussion going but no-where
So you don't want to have your opinion challenged, interesting. If he was a success you'd be able to name the years and positions pretty easily.

You want to prove your point .....give me some stats

1. How many goals were kicked on Reilly over last two years
2. How many possessions as a tagger did his opponents get relative to those players season averages

Here's your chance to hammer home your point

I say ......11 years and 193 games says he is valued by the club and has been successful ....over to you :D

He's quicker so will be able to keep up. But that's just a deflection on your behalf, Reilly only made the squad when he didn't have an opponent. When required to defend he struggled, are you disputing that?

:p Got it ......it's so simple ...all you have to do to make the squad of 40 AA players is not have an opponent

So simple when you think about it .......and congrats to all 17 clubs for allowing Reilly for all 24 home & away matches plus finals to not give him an opponent ......a generous gesture

Don't be a ******.
Cmon don't be touchy .......just do your homework & you may win your argument

Otherwise my stats beat your lack of stats ....snap!

They didnt allow him to get away with it for 24 home and away matches, hence he didn't make it

What the squad ......but oh i think he did

40 players out of what 700 players listed .....pretty good effort by my reckoning

You don't think so?

You've asked for stats that would require me to spend the night diving through records, so yeh you're being a w***er.

What I'm asking is pretty straight forward, which years and which positions were he successful in?

But it's pretty obvious you won't answer that basic question so enjoy your solo wankfest

BTW - didn't Neil Craig drop Brent Reilly back in like 2009?

Someone, don't know who posted that he was on,y ever dropped in his first year, but I'm sure he was dropped in 2007 and 2009.

Are we including those goals that were not kicked by Radar's direct opponent however were a result of Radar's turnover

So how were you going to prove your argument ....other than his career stats don't count , but I am not offering anything to support your view other than ....."i say Reilly failed" ...great argument EC

Think you took the same approach with Doughty ....bagged him unmercifully his whole career
BTW Doughty
8th all time number of games played .....231
Top 3 in 1% of all time

Gee not a bad career for a dud player heh .......likelihood Reilly will be just as bad and overtake him in all time games .....Reilly a real shocker of a player ....how did the club get it so wrong for so long????

Hope not in 2013 .......that would embarrass him no end

Reilly just kept turning the ball over at CHB ......but then he only played 12 games for the season, it seemed a lot more

Did you finish with a cigarette?

You seem to have the players confused. Hendo has been tried in multiple positions all over the field from HFF to wing to 3rd tall defender, before finally finding a place to call home on the HBF. He ended up there because he failed in all of the other positions, inevitably ending up spending time in the SANFL while the selectors pondered where to try him next, as anyone who has watched us play in the last two years would know. He has all the potential in the world, but the last 6 weeks of the season were the first time he gave any indication of being able to put it all together.

Reilly, on the other hand has proven successful in multiple positions, giving the selectors flexibility in where they choose to play him. The reason he was chosen to play spare man in defence is because of his excellent kicking and ability to read the play for intercept marking - not because he was in the last chance saloon as his detractors would have us believe.

This is so Obviously wrong, I'm seriously wondering if you're trolling.

Reilly has been shifted from position to position because he's failed to make any of them his own.

Hendo has been stuffed from position to position because he's versatile, has been used as a gap filler, and they don't know where to play him to best serve the team.

Worked for Nick Maxwell.

Both Reilly and Henderson looked good in the loose defender role. Reilly was almost AA in the role, and Henderson played every bit as well (I would argue better) in the time he spent there.

Reilly's strengths are his kicking (when not under pressure), his ability to read the ball, and his overhead marking. Hendo is at least as good a mark (being considerably taller helps), is faster, and more creative. Who's better? To me, in that role, they're both roughly as useful as each other.

But Henderson is younger. Assuming he is now happy to stick around, we should be backing him in, because he gives us at least as much as Reilly does in the same role. Reilly should be good enough to find a spot in the best 22 elsewhere. And if he's not, it's time to move on.

I swapped the names around for you. It makes far more convincing reading now.

Which other position has Hendo been successful? Ever? He's been so successful in all his previous positions that he has been sent back to the SANFL every time, a strange way of rewarding success, or is it just that blinkered people here have a warped definition of success?

Reilly has roughly 200 games under his belt and is invariably described by the coaches as being "too good to leave out". Hendo has played 6 good games in his career, and had to be moved to the easiest position on the ground before he achieved anything.

Surely you are extracting the urine here Vader!? Leaving aside the Reilly part of this argument(I am by no means his biggest fan), Hendo has only played 6 good games? Hendo's problem has never been a lack of "good" games it has been his consistency. You may dismiss the 6 goals in a showdown as his Scott Stevens 6 in a final moment, but facts are he has played a number of good games for us. Until now though he has been unable to deliver consistently.

As for the half back line, I'm hoping neither of them are there next year. I would love to see Sammy Shaw stay fit and make one flank his own, I think he adds an X factor we lack. I also think this is the year we see CEY step up and make us forget we missed Edwards in the trade period.

Hendo would currently get a game for us up forward, on the wing, half back, on the bench and as sub.

Reilly may get a game as a half back. Maybe. He is absolutely no chance of getting a gig in the forward half or in the midfield. He is too slow and limited to be the sub. He is a proven failure in nearly every position. Hendos 50 games would contain more quality than Reillys 200.

Hendo is a match winning weapon. Reilly is a liability we have had to hide and we are near out of hiding spots.
