Here It Is' 2013 AFL Top 10 Players

Wouldn't read too much into b&fs with some of their voting systems.

Like the system iirc your record n the past has been good, selwoods strong finish to the season has created a large recency effect that appears to have conned a lot of the media.

How does Mitchell finish 6th?

If you compare him to Jack for example, apart from averaging around 4 more touches every game, his output is not as great when you look at the tackles, contested possessions, scoring contributions and clearances and I'd have him ahead of Mitchell going by this years performances.

Hahahahaha, funny stuff. Go and have a read of the Brownlow Medal thread in the punting board to see what people who keep real tallys are saying regarding who is leading the Brownlow Count this year.

If we use past Brownlow Medal votes (which is quite a valid way to assess midfielders actually), Selwood has outperformed Pendlebury, if only slightly.

I think Ablett overall is still the best, with Selwood just ever so slightly above Pendlebury, but i am biased! If we also add in leadership......Selwood above everyone!!!

Blah blah my team's player is soooo awesome. Get off it.

This is one of the better rating systems I have seen anywhere. Selwood has been ordinary in a few games, mainly in the first half of the year, but I guess your memory doesn't go back that far.

Unfair bashing of the OP.

And for the record, Pendulbury is better than Selwood.

Bringing this forward onto the new page, with some results added in:

So, my club B&F predictions are: (And yes, I do know some clubs have already counted their votes, but this is what I had. These predictions (for the 10 teams to miss the finals) are based on the traditional 2013 Top 10 players list (the first one from the rankings lists above)

Adelaide: 1 Patrick Dangerfield; 2 Rory Sloane; 3 Scott Thompson; 4 Richard Douglas; 5 Brad Crouch
My second pick Sloane wins with my top pick Dangerfield finishing third. Got three of the top five. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-09-06/sloane-top-crow-in-close-count

Brisbane Lions: 1 Tom Rockliff; 2 Pearce Hanley; 3 Jack Redden; 4 Matthew Leuenberger; 5 Brent Moloney
As with last year, Patfull wins when he was nowhere on my list (last year he scored just 3 points). This year he was ranked 13th at the Lions with 13 points. But defenders don't get named in the best players and don't get DT or SC points, which means they don't get them here either. Not sure if there's a way I can fix that. I got Hanley as runner-up as well as Rockliff and Redden in the top five. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-09-06/patfull-is-lions-king-again

Carlton: 1 Marc Murphy; 2 Chris Judd; 3 Brock McLean; 4 Kade Simpson; 5 Andrew Walker
Tuesday, October 1

Collingwood: 1 Dane Swan; Scott Pendlebury 2; Steele Sidebottom 3; Dayne Beams =4; Travis Cloke =4
Friday, October 4

Essendon: 1 Jobe Watson; 2 Brendon Goddard; 3 Dyson Heppell; 4 David Zaharakis; 5 Brent Stanton
Wednesday, October 2

Geelong: 1 Joel Selwood; 2 Steve Johnson; 3 Mathew Stokes; 4 Jimmy Bartel; 5 Mitch Duncan
Thursday, October 3

Gold Coast: 1 Gary Ablett; 2 Dion Prestia; 3 Jaeger O'Meara; 4 Harley Bennell; 5 Jarrod Harbrow
Blind Freddy could have picked Ablett, and the margin was just as obvious. But Prestia and O'Meara gives me a trifecta, while I also had Harbrow in fifth, with Bennell (10th) the slider and being replaced by a defender in Thompson (see above). http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-09-06/ablett-shines-brightest-

Greater Western Sydney: 1 Callan Ward; 2 Jeremy Cameron; 3 Adam Treloar; 4 Dylan Shiel; 5 Lachie Whitfield
My second pick Cameron beats my top pick Ward, giving me a quinella. Treloar and Shiel also picked up top five spots, with Scully replacing Whitfield (7th). http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/2013-09-07/cameron-claims-medal

Melbourne: 1 Nathan Jones; 2 Colin Sylvia; 3 Dean Terlich; 4 Colin Garland; 5 Jack Viney
Nathan Jones' win is again no surprise, while Garland (2nd), Terlich (3rd) and Sylvia (5th) also did well to give me four out of five. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-09-05/Jones-wins-demons-best-and-fairest

North Melbourne: 1 Brent Harvey; 2 Daniel Wells; 3 Drew Petrie; 4 Andrew Swallow; 5 Jack Ziebell
Monday, October 7

Port Adelaide: 1 Travis Boak; 2 Kane Cornes; 3 Chad Wingard; 4 Brad Ebert; 5 Hamish Hartlett
Wingard, my third pick, takes out the Medal, with Boak and Cornes second and third. Ebert's fourth place finish gives me a Boxed First Four. http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2013-09-21/wingard-wins-first-john-cahill-medal

Richmond: 1 Trent Cotchin; 2 Dustin Martin; 3 Brett Deledio; 4 Daniel Jackson 4; 5 Bachar Houli
Monday, September 30

St Kilda: 1 Leigh Montagna; 2 Jack Steven; 3 Nick Riewoldt; 4 David Armitage; 5 Nick Dal Santo
My second pick Steven wins from my third pick Riewoldt and first pick Montagna. With Armitage fifth, that gives me a box trifecta and four out of five. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-09-06/jack-out-of-box-for-saints

Sydney: 1 Kieren Jack; 2 Jarrad McVeigh; 3 Josh Kennedy; 4 Daniel Hannebery; 5 Ryan O'Keefe
Friday, October 4

West Coast: 1 Matt Priddis; 2 Chris Masten; 3 Scott Selwood; 4 Josh Kennedy; 5 Dean Cox
Friday, November 29

Western Bulldogs: 1 Tom Liberatore; 2 Ryan Griffen; 3 Will Minson; 4 Adam Cooney; 5 Matthew Boyd
Griffen wins, Liberatore second and Minson third makes it a box trifecta. Cooney was seventh and Boyd nowhere to be seen. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-09-04/doggies-best-and-fairest

Brownlow Medal tonight, and my gut feeling is Gary Ablett should win it, but I defer to my system, which has resulted in Scott Pendlebury finishing on top. Just a reminder how my rankings finished...

West Coast: Matt Priddis from Chris Masten --------------- Exacta.

Wingard, my third pick, takes out the Medal, with Boak and Cornes second and third. Ebert's fourth place finish gives me a Boxed First Four. http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2013-09-21/wingard-wins-first-john-cahill-medal

I've added these to the league post above...

So let's have a few more B&F predictions from the clubs who have been eliminated during the finals...

Carlton: Marc Murphy 1, Chris Judd 2, Brock McLean 3, Kade Simpson 4, Andrew Walker 5
Walker and Henderson top two.

Collingwood: Dane Swan 1, Scott Pendlebury 2, Steele Sidebottom 3, Dayne Beams =4, Travis Cloke =4
Beams to finish fourth having played only seven games?
.

I'm not personally happy with Beams being there and I reckon there will be defenders (who don't get big points) who go ahead of him, but that's how the figures panned out. In those seven games, he scored 45 of a possible 67 points.

Henderson is the key defender/forward. They don't often score points.

Bringing this forward again, with results, Hawthorn and Fremantle added in:

Simpson's win (tip fourth) was a little wide, but it was Murphy's failure to make the top 10 and Judd and McLean at equal eighth which blows this one right out. Walker (tip fifth) finished second - can I wipe out the top three? ;-) http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2013-10-01/simpson-wins-john-nicholls-medal

Collingwood: 1 Dane Swan; 2 Scott Pendlebury; 3 Steele Sidebottom; Dayne Beams =4; Travis Cloke =4
I had Pendlebury all year, but Swan passed him in the Magpies' first final. Damn. However, Sidebottom's third and Cloke's fourth give me a boxed first four. No surprise about Beams, he was never in the hunt. http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2013-10-04/pendlebury-claims-second-copeland-trophy

Essendon: 1 Jobe Watson; 2 Brendon Goddard; 3 Dyson Heppell; 4 David Zaharakis; 5 Brent Stanton
Goddard wins from Watson, with Heppell third, giving me a boxed trifecta. Zaharakis (10th) and Stanton (seventh) didn't do quite so well. http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/2013-10-02/goddard-named-crichton-medallist

Geelong: 1 Joel Selwood; 2 Steve Johnson; 3 Mathew Stokes; 4 Jimmy Bartel; 5 Mitch Duncan
Selwood gives me another winner, although he was the clear favourite. Taylor finished second, well above my rank of sixth, while Mackie came third (I had him 10th). Johnson missed the top 10, Stokes was fourth, Bartel seventh and Duncan ninth. http://www.geelongcats.com.au/news/2013-10-03/selwood-takes-out-second-carji

Thompson provided a defender's win when he tied with my second pick Wells. I had Thompson seventh. Harvey was disappointing, missing the top 10, as did Swallow. Petrie was fourth and Ziebell seventh. Overall, disappointing. http://www.nmfc.com.au/news/2013-10-07/dual-winners-for-north

Port Adelaide: 1 Travis Boak; 2 Kane Cornes; 3 Chad Wingard; 4 Brad Ebert; 5 Hamish Hartlett
Wingard, my third pick, takes out the Medal, with Boak and Cornes second and third. Ebert's fourth place finish gives me a Boxed First Four. http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2013-09-21/wingard-wins-first-john-cahill-medal

Richmond: 1 Trent Cotchin; 2 Dustin Martin; 3 Brett Deledio; 4 Daniel Jackson 4; 5 Bachar Houli
Jackson wins from a tip of fourth, with my second pick of Martin finishing in that position. My top pick, Cotchin, slumped to fifth. Deledio (finished third) got his predicted top five, but Houli was way down in 10th. Chaplin's third place is a win for a defender - I had him 15th. http://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/2013-09-30/jackson-jags-jack

McVeigh romps home to defeat Jack, with Kennedy finishing third, Hannebery fourth and O'Keefe fifth. That's a boxed first five, almost in order and my best result. In a poor year, this is one to hang my hat on, even though I didn't get the winner. http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/2013-10-04/mcveigh-wins-2013-skilton-medal

West Coast: 1 Matt Priddis; 2 Chris Masten; 3 Scott Selwood; 4 Josh Kennedy; 5 Dean Cox
Friday, November 29

Western Bulldogs: 1 Tom Liberatore; 2 Ryan Griffen; 3 Will Minson; 4 Adam Cooney; 5 Matthew Boyd
Griffen wins, Liberatore second and Minson third makes it a box trifecta. Cooney was seventh and Boyd nowhere to be seen. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-09-04/doggies-best-and-fairest

Obviously, that's the way it turned out. Defenders don't often get recognised by media outlets, hence Henderson's low rating (I know he played forward as well, but similar applies). There are also players that seem to always be rated higher by the media than they should be. Murphy is one of those.

Bit late, but....

And now, the Grand Final teams

Fremantle: 1 Nathan Fyfe; 2 Michael Barlow; 3 David Mundy; 4 Michael Walters; 5 Zac Clarke
Saturday, November 16

Hawthorn: 1 Sam Mitchell; 2 Luke Hodge; 3 Jarryd Roughead; 4 Jordan Lewis; 5 Shaun Burgoyne
Gibson's win is another blowout for the defenders, as I had him 15th. Behind that, Stratton's fourth spot again proves how high the Hawks ranked backmen this year (I had him 22nd). My top pick, Mitchell, ran third, while Hodge (sixth), Roughead (second) and Burgoyne (seventh) weren't that far away. Lewis missed the top 10. http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/2013-10-05/gibson-wins-best-and-fairest
