Morning guys, just curious, looking at the way you guys are going at present, was sacking Neale Daniher wrong??? I'm not trying to have a go at Dean Bailey, as really we haven't really had a good chance to look at what he can do. But based on results, was Daniher unfairly dumped last year?? He was a good coach, and sold the club beautifully. He seemed to be dumped due to results, but results haven't improved.

Not trying to troll, just curious as to your thoughts on it. I liked Daniher as a coach and it seems that he was dumped for the wrong reasons

With Daniher at the helm we may not be travelling as badly as we currently are, but I don't think we'd be working towards anything that would be beneficial in the long term, just more of the same mediocrity we saw throughout the most part of his tenure.
So, if Bailey is working towards a long-term plan of improvement, I'm happy the change has been made.

No way.
For starters, we'd still have Godfrey, Ward and N Brown on the list, and be moving backwards instead of forwards.

To me it comes down to this.

Either A) The administration decided that we had an underperforming list, and with a new coach, better tactics and a better gameplan we could challenge for a flag.

or B) The administration decided the list was shit and it was ND's fault and we needed to rebuild.

if A) The administration got it badly wrong, clearly Neale was getting that list to more wins and 3 finals apperances in a row before last year - this season has been proof that we have massive holes not only in our list but our leadership.

if B) The Administration got it badly badly wrong by not "managing the list" to finish under 16 points, we all know the cost the club will incur now it has given back a (free) #17 pick and a (free) no#1 pick looking at the way our season is travelling.

Either way the administration got it wrong mid last year, though with 10 years at the helm and 6 finals apperances but no flag i think reason A) is what the administration thought, and while this year hindsight has proven them wrong they made their best call, and went looking for the best man they could.

Unfortanetly Bailey has inherited reality B) and will suffer having less talent currency available in the draft to build his team because of those dogs/blues wins :(

Daniher & Cameron are the reason that we are in this position.
it's only in the last few years that they have recruited well, Hence the reason why we dont have many good 23-27 year old players.
Let's hope Bailey & Prendegast can do better.

Not having a go at you TBoyleSuperstar, but I'm absolutely sick of that question being asked. He was at the club for 10 years - how much longer should we have kept him?

Right decision.
ND kept some of our players for far too long (Ward, Yze etc) and let's not forget last year when he left we were 2-11.

But in most of those losses they were by less than a kick.

These days we would be lucky to get within 5 kicks.

Not to mention we were completly ravaged with injuries at the start of the year.. not saying the Daniher sacking was wrong, but he definatly was getting the most out of that list..

Baileys only 6 games in. He deserves time i guess, but we aren't even competitive, the opposition usually has 7 scoring shots minimum b4 we have 1.

No spirit at all in the team, seasons a writeoff already

No, his time was up. I think the mistake we made was waiting so long to appoint someone. Bailey didn't have any time to really look over the list and it's hurting us badly. Give him this year, push through the pain and wait for him to build a list that suits his style of play.

Pretty unanimous reading that. As I said, not tryin got bag Bailey or troll. Just curious as to what you guys thought (apologies if this has been mentioned a few times before Demonfan9, don;t normally come onto your board).

I rated Daniher as a coach and it seems that it was more the list than the coach (possibly due to the coach mind you).

It was the salary cap breaches that cost us picks and thus no player between 24-27. Molan (taken in the superdraft) never got goin due to injuries and Thompson went home to Adelaide are examples. Due to having reduced draft picks the club decided to recurit heavily. Blokes like Vardy Ellis Bizzell Read Holland were picked up and instead of goin with younger blokes from the draft. And now we are paying the price.

If we didn't sack him he would have left at the end of the year anyway because he actually had already resigned.
