ball will be a player like crawford/burke/the rat, an in and under player who gets the ball out to the wings or the HFF line.
hodge will be a ruck rover/wingman like lenny hayes, winmar who carries the ball and scores or delivers with precision.

both will be class players.

a better analysis would be say dal santo/hodge and ball/mitchell.

mitchell looks like a gun 'smokey' like dal, and no doubt ball will play on mitch and hodge will go to dal over the next decade.

Probably Ball.. simply on the 1 or 2 games I have seen of him. Hodge suffers from "Phil Read Syndrome". He has the talent but spends far too much time trying to fight people and push and shove without worrying about getting the ball. He should let his ability do the talking not try and score points by wrestling people.

Have to be Ball.

Has shown more than Hodge already, although i still reckon that Hodge one day will be a real star, just taking a lot longer to find his feet.

Luke Ball will be a dead set gun.:D

When I first saw Judd play - I was stunned we'd over-looked him. I suggested as much to a couple of people close to the decision at StKilda and they assurred me Ball would live up to it.

The kid has only played one senior year and I'm won over already. His skills are pure silk.

If Hodge comes close to being rated with Ball over the next decade, I'm sure Hawks fans will be more than happy.

And on behalf of Hawk fans Jeff, if Ball comes close to being rated with Hodge over the next decade, I'm sure Saints fans will be more than happy.

;)

Hodge.

Ball will be a Scott West type of ball magnet. Ultra reliable possession accumulator, but not a match winner.

Hodge will be more like Riccutio/Hird. Versatile, tough, highly skilled. Unbelievably strong contested mark, which is often overlooked. Will probably be less reliable and his style of play lends itself to injury/suspension, but I reckon he'll be the better player.

As for a better Hawthorn/St Kilda comparison, I agree with the bloke who suggested Mitchell and Ball would play on each other. I'd say Hodge would be better compared to Goddard than Dal Santo though. Both versatile players with big futures.

I'm not happy with alot of the off-season movements at Hawthorn over the last few years. We have made some real trade/draft blunders. In fact, there's only two decisions i'm fully happy with, and they both came from the same deal: Hodge and Mitchell.

Yeah, I concur...

I had doubts, especially when the saints rested him for his first year.

Then at the start of last year, he was injured a bit, and looked too small. He's put on a stack of muscle now. Hands are so sharp and his disposal of both sides is outstanding. Gets the real hard ball too, right in and under.

I like the boy.:D :D :D

Ball will be the elite midfielder in the comp in no less than 3 years. Mark my words on that. Hodge fits in a treat at hawthorn, cares more about his hair than anything else.
