Martin Clarke plays 2 good games and gets the rising star nomination
Travis Varcoe plays 8 or so good games and is yet to get a nomination
Is the rising star award/nominations the most poorly judged award in football?

Martin Clarke's 2 games are better than any game Trav has played.
They reward outstanding games not general consistency...

Definitely. Gaz junior never received a nomination, but Shannon Byrnes did. 'Nuff said.

They have awarded consistency lots of times, it's usually judged on both.
Lets hope Trav wins one before the season ends!

I recall Shannon Byrnes got his rising star nom for a game against the West Coast at Subi where he had 24 possessions and kicked two goals. Maybe he got the nom simply b/c he deserved it!

Cos trav doesnt get enough of the ball.

Personally I don't care (not sure whether Trav does or not) if Varcoe gets it or not. The Rising Star award has nothing to do with who wins the premiership, and I know which one Trav would rather win. All it does is build up expectation on a kid that may fold under the pressure. Let him develop without the pressure.

Gaz Jr didn't get one... but look how he's turned out.

they gave it to martin clarke coz he is the token Irish guy now, no longer is it kennelly. Any Collingwood player is seen by the media as better than anyone else coz they are from Collingwood, seriously Alan Didak is no better than Eddie Betts in terms of goal sneak yet Alan Didak is seen as a superstar, Eddie is no where near that status. It is a joke, Trav should've got it but any Collingwood player gets overrated by the media.
Team Chemistry over and out:eek:

Thats a joke, just looked it up and he hasn't!!

Varcoe has had a sensational season! Better then the likes of Gibbs, Clark, Clarke, Wood etc.

You cant lead the league for the most tackles inside 50 and not get a nom!

I thought Shannon got his when we played Sydney at Skilled in 2004 and he kicked a goal and laid a few good tackles and that was about it. Could be wrong though.

Martin Clarke has been excellent so i do not begrudge him his nomination. I do think Varcoe deserves it but given his role as a forward defender and crumber he probably doesn't get enough disposals per game to really stick out. I am confident Joel Selwood is looking good for the award this year though.

I would be interested in looking at the list of noms this year, pretty sure most are ahead of Varcoe in my book (At this stage.)

By seasons end they are normally looking for anyone with shorts and socks to nominate so get on him if someone will lay the bet.

Does it really matter ?
The RS Award is a bit of a wank award anyway.Any award that has Nick Holland as a previous winner has no credibility.

They should have an award for 1st year players only, not players that may've been at a club for a year or 3 and still be eligible due to lack of games.Under that system a player like Varcoe wouldn't be eligible.

No one would rate Varcoe outside of Geelong supporters.

If someone started a thread on the main board asking "best eligible player yet to be nominated" you'd get laughed at for mentioning Varcoe.

Clarke got 19 disposals and 3 goals and anyone watching could tell he clearly played a sensational game. I don't think you can seriously argue he didn't deserve it.

Still nice to be nominated for such an award. Clarke deserves it, his games have been sensational. Would have loved to see Prismall get a nom, coz he deserved one early on and no doubt would have got one if he was still in the 22. Trav deserves one too.

What constitutes getting the ball enough?

He's the leading tackler for inside 50's atm, gets 1 or 2 goals on most games, and can create good plays up forward for scoring options.

It's not always about posessions, but surely must include effective disposal of the ball ????
