So the big man if off contract at the end of the season...he's a proven goal-kicker now and plays the key forward role that is traditionally valued highly in the trade market...and if the talk is correct he's being head-hunted by other clubs.

So the big question is what would you pay JJ for his next contract to keep him at the Crows?

Fire away!

Has to be at least $400K surely
More than that I'd think. Anything north of $500k pa and I'd start to think twice about it.

Unfortunately there will always be a club willing to put that $700k pa plus offer on the table and we have to just hope that it's not only a $ decision but also he is happ with where he's at, where the club is headed etc.

That is why I'm encouraged by Pyke's attitude that work needs to be enjoyable, and he wants the guys to look forward to coming to the club and enjoy their time there. If you can create that sort of environment then hopefully these other aspects help sway the decisions on some of the players.

You will always have the Kurt$ of this world where it's only about the $. Hopefully we screen these guys out before recruiting them.

475k per season for 3 years would be my initial offer.

If another club offers him significantly more (eg 550-600k), i'd go as high as 525k per season but I'm not comfortable going higher than that because he's not versatile enough (can't play in defence or ruck).

Anyone thinking we can retain him for 400k needs to realise that big forwards carry a premium.

Given Mackay gets 400k JJ is worth $550. Another club will offer him more.

If Mackay is $400k then JJ is about $750k, but I've said before that we'd need a $20m cap if we benchmarked everyone against Mackay's purported salary. I'd guess JJ's worth about $500k.

Other clubs will offer him a touch more, but we should be go up to 500k imo. It would take a fair premium on top of that to make moving worth his while, so 500k should price him out of the market remembering he's only got a couple of years of service left in him.

According to previous reports, JJ and the Crows are settled on the $, which is about 450K per, but JJ wants 4 years and we're only prepared to offer 3.
I'd stay with 3 but have smallish triggers for the 4th.

500k per year on a 3 year contract is good value for both.

Based on some previous years trades, he may be able to push for a little more elsewhere, but at the expense of leaving the club, and the state, I dont think it would be worth him leaving.

500k PA for JJ is a fair compromise for both parties.
