How much would you pay Josh Jenkins?

If JJ is being offered $4.5m to go to the Lions, he should take the deal. Unless we are close or in the same ball park in our deal, it would be madness by JJ to not set up the rest of his life.
I depends what motivates him. Money is not a big motivator for many people.

This is what worries me. I can see similarities with Hungry Tippo. JJ is an ex-basketballer...on top of that he loves his American sports which is notorious for player movement. I reckon we are in trouble

Couple of big leaps in that paragraph

David King says we should try to organise a trade of Jenkins to Brisbane and Delidio to us, on the basis that we need an quality mid and JJ is replaceable given the role he plays

Regardless of what you think of King, would you do that deal?

Tell King to stop smoking weed and going on television

Brisbane getting a priority pick in this whole Jenkins trade debate would be interesting - especially if he decides to go there after kicking 70 goals

70 goals , 700+ pa contract = top 10 pick in my eyes even if he's not really worth that

I wonder if the Crows know this and that's part of the reason why they aren't willing to pay too much for him.

Wow did u get that figure from? Saw a clip on that footy show with Brown on it and he took a crack at the Crows saying we're not known for paying players their worth or words to that effect and then said its time for the Crows to open the purse strings. So clearly Brisbane are making a pretty decent play at JJ. Bit of a silly fellow thing for him to say too.

There was an article in the Advertiser pointing out that JJ was one of the top forwards in the comp complete with various stats and measurables and saying if Adelaide don't pay him like a top forward someone else will.

My brother is also an ex-basketballer and loves US sports. He is about as far from Hungry Tippo (great name btw) as you can get. 2 things do not mean they think the same.

This is true, we have a policy it seems of not paying high contracts

Yes, the children in Syria don't realise how lucky they are not to be offered a 4 year $2.4m deal from the Crows. How would JJ only survive on that much.

You are forgetting the fact that JJ himself has recently stated that he likes it in Adelaide and would like to stay at the Crows for the rest of his career.

I've never understood the loyalty connection people make with Jenkins and the Nfl/NBA. Why would it matter? Josh would watch the sport because he enjoys it, not because of the amount player movement between teams, for all we know he doesn't like how frivolous player loyalty is there.

Smart list management? Aren't Geelong the same and they get lauded for it? Can also say the same for NFL teams like the Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore Ravens and New Englamd Patriots. All these teams have a steady stream of 'stars' regularly walking out the door for bigger money and then they slot in their replacement who they drafted in the preceding years and they don't miss a beat.

The 'star' player goes off to another team where he usually doesn't succeed because all of a sudden they're playing in a completely different system that isn't as player friendly and allows for a player to use their natural athleticism and talent. Often that player then gets cut only a year or so later and ends up back on their original team for less money and the team is laughing all the way to the bank because when that player left they received a compensation pick because they lost more free agents than they signed.

So the team eventually gets the player back on a cap friendly contract and then uses the compo pick to draft new players on top of their usual draft picks they get!

Sorry that was long winded and only partially relevant to AFL but you hopefully get the idea. I think the Crows are taking a similar strategy where each player is alloted a value and that's the max they can get paid. Go outside that and it throws everything out of whack. Reckon JJ is gone unless he takes far less than what Brissy are offering. Our forward line will still be good but replacing his versatility and unique big man athleticism just won't happen.

Are we going to get a top ten pick for him?

Look, I would love to keep JJ for the sake of familiarity and the fit he offers but there is no way in hell I am prepared to pay him more than the likes of Tex and Sloane. Just plain NO!

Eddie would be in that group but Eddie is a freaking bargain at $500K per season. I could pay JJ that much or slightly more if I squint really hard but at some point I am not putting in jeopardy long term planning for the club, not our ability to keep onto the much more important players.

If JJ bolts, I am making a play for some of the other players on the market that can ill his role. They don't have to kick 70 goals in a year but I am happy if they produce the 40 odd that Jenkins has produced in the last two seasons for fraction of the cost. $750K is approaching the superstar territory and JJ is not a superstar but a very good player.

i certainly don't want to loose jj but i wonder at the age of 28 and mcgovin showing signs and maybe greenwood could fill his shoes. certainly huge upside, great mark and tips all the boxes.
the bonus is obviously a pretty good draft pick for a mid.

dont want him to leave either, but if he does... trade him to brisbane (possibly first round pick alone or could it be brisbane 2nd pick to us and we swap first rounds also) we use that money to throw at an elite mid (plus danger money), we trade in Day to take jj role, cheaper and younger... Day hasnt done much in the gold coast but doesnt seem the greatest environment... the only sore point is how to relive jacobs in ruck... not sure Day's rucking ability to short? how much money would Day be on per year??

Or maybe they'll offer us pick 20 and Jesse White?

I keep asking this who do we get to replace him ready to go? 650K is about the right money. Eddie and Lynch would be on the same money and Tex around the 650K mark. Names such as Vickery, Daw and Day have been mooted but none would be as good as JJ. Why change something that is working a treat?

Absolutely. The question is, is he worth the big key position forward money to us. He'd definitely have interest from other clubs and you need to pay overs to get a big forward to move.

Our questions about Jenkins are is he worth the extra cash to us considering we have a very strong forward line. Can we slide someone else in without much overall loss (considering we would get a first rounder for him)

Jenkins' questions will be -is it about money, or success (team) or success (personal). Because I don't see him thriving at Brisbane or another bottom feeding club. His contested marking has only been good this year because of speed of delivery and space. He's thriving on our style of play and he 'aint going to get that anywhere else bar another top team who won't be able to pay overs.

If he did go, I wouldn't expect him to be anything more than a 30-40 goal per year forward and in general a bit of a loss for the team that took him. (nek minute he goes to Sydney)

He isn't a top forward but.

He is a very good 3rd string key forward. He would struggle big time to have a huge impact as there number 1 key forward.

He should know his role and shut his mouth.

No more than $555,000 a year. Maximum I'd go - $1,700,000 over 3 years

Not all NBA players are money hungry mercenaries.
