How Often Do you Reminisce?

25 is when you start exclusively drinking dark ales. I can have about two Coopers at the pub now and after that I'm going for the uncarbonated stuff.

I reminisce about the years before I joined BF

I'm just a singer in a rock 'n' roll band

I like to reminisce (easy one to mis-spell that), about the 12 Premiership cups my team have won in my lifetime.....The 7 Grand Finals in a row that I attended in the 80's, with us winning 4 of them....And also comparing & contrasting the 3 great Hawk dynasty's & the players from each of those eras, against one another, that I've been enormously privileged to have witnessed first hand.

Yeah....Reminiscing is for winners.

I'll magically grow fond of stuff that I currently despise within the next 12 months?

Nope. I drank beers other than dark ales at 25 and still do 10 years later.

Do enjoy a nice porter or stout but everyone has their own tastes. Some people in their 40s drink Corona and Great Northern.

I won't hear a bad word against Great Northern

Is music the great conduit for reminiscing? Am sure everyone has albums and songs that elicit memories from as far back as they can remember. Good, bad or indifferent. Am sure everyone has a terrible song that brings back memories of their first voyage into a nightclub, when you hear Apple Bottom Jeans you just start dropping your dumper to the ground or a bit of Dizzee Rascal turns you into a urban gentleman within a second.

Worst thing is, is if a friend passes away and they play a tune you both use to love at their funeral. Total alpha move to ruin that song for the rest of your life, love it.

Music can be a trigger.
Most certainly. And I've got earphones constantly plugged into my ears, constantly wrenching my emotions, memories, general mood, back and forth between depression and anger, between reminiscence and wistfulness, etc.

Funny. I was reading this post and agreeing but started wonder what song reminded me of nightclubs... ****in apple bottom jeans... what a terrible, terrible song.

This is one for me as well. Pretty bad.

I often think about high school. Seems like a long time ago now, and I suspect those times weren't as good as I remember. Lots of time to play video games though. Played so much GTA San Andreas and Unreal Tournament 2004, even up until year 12.

I reminisce on the year 2010 a fair bit.

I don't know what it is. I turned 14, went to school, played cricket, loved AFL, got back into wrestling after a hiatus from it and I liked the same music I still like today etc. I just feel that the music that came out that year was great, even the mainstream stuff that I wouldn't normally listen to. There was 'Planets' by Short Stack, 'Lying' by Amy Meredith, 'Take It Off' by Ke$ha, 'Cooler Than Me' by Mike Posner and 'Magic' by B.o.B. When I think of all that music I get huge 2010 feels.

I think of the drawn Grand Final and the Ashes series late in the year, Peter Siddle's hat-trick etc.

Sport wise I reminisce 2005/6 a bit. West Coast were good, the 2005 Ashes happened, the 2005 WC qualification happened, the 2006 WC was a new kind of exciting because we were in it, T20 cricket hadn't taken off so the upcoming WC was still interesting, the Wallabies had just lost the 2003 WC and weren't embarrassing, WA got a Super Rugby side, A-League was kicking off and Perth would just seemlessly take off from the NSL days...

I mean as a kid I saw WC good throughout all of my primary school and most of high school so I was spoiled there, the Wildcats won titles and the Glory were good when they came in but WA had no rugby, I'd never seen Australia in a FIFA World Cup or a competitive England cricket team so it was a cool mini era.

*sighs nostalgically*

Damn, this post took me back.

I was a huge Weezer fan when Magic came out. Such a crappy song, it sounds like a the musical version of a franchise, like if songs were packaged and produced like Chris Hemsworth movies. But it's got a real power to it and always pushes along – your brain is always waiting for that next bit, and next bit. Great pop songwriting. Now people just see BoB as that dude who says the world's flat.

Good year though. One of my great yarns took place that year. I went home and watched that drawn Grand Final while mopping my mate's sick from the carpet and scooping up one of his turds he'd left down the side of the house. campaigner he was.

That period was fun for me, I'm just a bit older, and I still remember getting into drinking, the two houses our year level would always go to. The shitty parties the whole town would. This girl my old high school girlfriend was friends with was 16 and rented this house with a girl who was older. We'd go over there all the time and drink Coopers. This old mate, his mum used to go away for weeks on end and all sorts of people would rock up. I smoked my first bong in that house and still remember this harmless complete ****in dickhead I grew up with goes 'man that's good weed.' ****in buck toothed idiot. His party trick was to shit under the hill's hoist there.

I actually have about 10 rolls of film from that year that I need to get developed.

When you meet up with someone for ages, it's funny how you both distinctly remember things. Either they remember something else that you forgot or can't recall, or it's two versions of the same event. That over a few dark ales is a great thing. Getting those photos developed would be like that. I gotta do it.

Ever get the feeling that you are failing to truly appreciate what you have right now, and in a few years you'll back and think '**** that was a good time'?

I get that feeling sometimes.
I have a slightly different take on it in that I look back on the past with rose colored glasses on thinking it was all beer and skittles, then I sit back and really think about it and on a fair few occasions I'll decide no it wasn't that good after all.
