No one seemed to like the idea anymore but I think the current one is far inferior. So Australia win the series 5-2 or lose it 5-2 - what does it matter?

They say people didn't like the games where Australia wasn't playing - I enjoyed them.

The idea of playing games which culminated in finals meant so much more. What will be the point of the last few games if they are dead rubbers?

The major reason I loved the tri series was that you often saw good games between the visiting teams that were more competitive than the games involving Australia. It just needed to be shortened rather than be cut altogether, but CA as usual made the wrong call.

Triangular series dragged on too long. It wasn't the neutral games so much, it was just the sheer length of it all. I don't mind the current format, but again, it is too long. By the time we get to the 7th match, I reckon it'll be a serious yawn-fest. With a 3-nil lead already, several of the last matches will almost certainly be dead rubbers. Watch out of Channel 9 trying to pump up the games by calling for England to "play for their pride" or some such bullshit.

90% of onedayers are ALREADY forgettable, but when there isn't even a series on the line they become forgettable AND meaningless.

I'm guessing you mean forgettable, not unforgettable.

Eh? The non-Australia games were rating terribly and ticket sales would have been hideous. Plus the Australian public isn't exactly screaming out for 11-15 ODIs each summer.

Play the Non-Australian games in rural Australia maybe. Each team plays each other twice then a one off final. Six games + final with two of the matches promoting grass roots cricket in the country:thumbsu:

Make it three each and I reckon it's a goer.

I remember when they started the tri series it was 5 matches each and a 5 game finals series!

In general, 7 matches is too many - HOWEVER, it is England and we've already seen strong crowd numbers outside of Melbourne, and we're leading up to a World Cup where we need as much practice against quality opposition as possible.

Last season got to be a bit of a joke though. Having the West Indies come back to play 5 ODI's so long after the test series was over was too much for the public. In future, when two teams come out for a test series, they should play the ODI's and T20's before that Test series, and have no more than 3 ODI's in that pre-test series period. Against teams like India, England and South Africa, where public interest and ratings would be higher, you can afford to have 5 matches.

They will never have Australia vs Australia A again. Apparently it was a bad look having more people support Australia A instead of the national team.

Interesting story in the papers today about the ratings of the first couple of ODIs. Outrated the T20s, the tennis, even Oprah!

Considering all that's been said recently, that is interesting. Got a link to the article?

"Figures released by industry body Free TV yesterday showed the opening one-day international between Australia and England at the MCG attracted a staggering 2.57 million viewers.

Shane Watson's match-winning century in what seemed an improbable Australian run-chase ensured it was the most popular program of the summer and outrated even Oprah Winfrey's much-hyped Ultimate Australian Adventure."

Triangular series were gold!

Won't happen anymore because Australia has to make up the neutral games overseas and the cricket schedule is already too full.

Would only happen with Australia A these days, but as another poster said it's a bad look if everyone goes for Australia A.

Maybe the winner of the previous domestic OD season could be the third team???

I think you will find the Tri-Series returning next summer as a one off with India out here, it will become a big cash cow to run a tri series beaming back into India, even if the grounds are empty. Because of the time difference, it would have to be day nighters so that would rule out rural venues.
