If Brendon Ah Chee ever hits you with a left hook

No worries. I am just quick to respond with so much other coach-bashing on this forum. Always two sides to the story. The lack of injuries is something that fascinates me. Lady luck? Or something amazing that Burgo has instituted? A cumulative effect of the years of hard training? Or a combination of the above?

Long may it continue!
My theory is that they have spent a few years finding out just how far they can push each individual player (and you never really know til its too far).

Now that they know they are training them to the limit but not beyond.

Yep, I agree. probably a combination of all of the above. Having Hombsch, Jonas, and Ryder back. Clurey nailing his spot, Polec over his injury, and Dixon looking fit and furious, has us looking like a new team. Guys like Ah Chee on the edge have found a new gear, and with no injuries, the there is a whole group of SANFL boys pushing hard for a spot ... A perfect storm leading into the second half of the year.

Disappointing, but can see it happening with a lot of the boys who for what ever reason aren't getting the chance they have earned.

Makes sense I guess. Haven't they now named him as emergency for this week though?
It's interesting that they would make this public. The manager obviously trying to gage any interest out there.

Pretty sure his parents moved to Adelaide recently - maybe even living in the Alberton area. I read somewhere that Arch knocked back a move to the Suns, and a chance to play with his brother, cos he wanted to stay put at Ports.

I still hope he can make it with us.

Yeah I posted an article a while back about it. Guess this is the new world now and trading will become more and more frequent. Some decisions this year are baffling though. We clearly have some talent but it still appears gold passes given to under performing seniors while performers in the seconds can't get a game. Still AhChee didn't exactly set the word on fire with his last call up, apart from his first game or so.

Just saw this now...

Arch, according to his manager, will likely be seeking a trade at season's end.

SPP has already passed as a big bodied mid, along with Ebert into the centre this year, pushes him down the list there (and that's before either of our other mids from last year potentially). And is too big for Ken to pick over Neade, Impey, Young or S. RGay. Just take a very late pick from GC or a WA club and hope to get something from that.

The problem with Ah Chee is he is just too slow to play anywhere but centre square, big-bodied mid.

Luckily for him that is his best position and suits his skillset, but he is fourth in line behind Wines, Ebert & SPP, with Atley looming large in the rear view mirror.

It is a problem of circumstance for Ah Chee unfortunately.

I really like Arch, but it's hard to say he hasn't been given opportunities to succeed playing in the big league.

Would be surprised though if he doesn't get a look in at various points over the course of what remains of the season. Whether he can make it stick is another question though. Still a good chance he'll be recoverable like say Lin Jong for the Dogs last year.

Excluding that weird period in 2015 where Ken played him as the sub 5 or 6 times in a row, Sam Gray and Jake Neade have both been given more than double the opportunities that Arch has been given. And if you ask me, they've both shown much less.

He said his parents had moved to Adelaide and were living at Alberton in an interview that RussellEbertHandball quoted a couple or weeks back.

Can't blame him seeking more opportunity elsewhere.

Probably not so much with S Rgay but definitely with Neade.

I'm uncomfortable with players being told that they are just depth in case of injuries, that they will struggle to get a game, etc, mid season. It just adds nothing positive to the player's performance or team morale at large. Leave that stuff for the end of season review.

This, so much.

Any leader worth his salt will tell you 'moral of the troops' is most important - it trumps strategy every-time.

This speaks volumes about Kern's imo.

Arch has been last man in, and first man out for a long time at Alberton.

Regardless of how he may have performed in the previous 2 or 3 games, it's been one quiet game and a see you later.
It's a shame that the same selection criteria isn't used on the senior players who are serial underperformers, but apparently they can stink it up for weeks before the blow torch is put on them, if it ever is!
