How many times has it been done in vfl/afl history?
Wow, only 5 times in well over a century, and only once since the late 50s. VERY tough. But if any club can do it, it's this one.5 times that I can think of:
Carlton: 1906, 1907, 1908.
Collingwood: 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930.
Melbourne: 1939, 1940, 1941.
Melbourne: 1955, 1956, 1957.
Brisbane Lions: 2001, 2002, 2003.
That's what made Brisbane's effort really special. Can't count any of the others because of the way recruiting was done - buy whoever you can afford - and competition was limited to only one or two teams per year.Wow, only 5 times in well over a century, and only once since the late 50s. Would love for the Hawks to emulate that feat.

Yep, there will always be that slight asterix next to Brisbane's three-peat, there'll be no such thing against ours if we pull it off...Although if / when we match the feet we won't have the salary cap / merger concessions to help us through
Will be one for the ages!Yep, there will always be that slight asterix next to Brisbane's three-peat, there'll be no such thing against ours if we pull it off...
I suppose it depends how you look at it, but that's technically 6 times, with the Wobbles doing it twice in a 4 year period.5 times that I can think of:

My siblings had gone with some strange choices (Pies, Roos, Cats but I am sure they were just running with peer pressure). Dad had played for the Tigers and I was on my Pat Malone as a Hawk.
Yep.Are you saying that your dad played for Richmond and not one of you little scamps could bring yourselves to barrack for them!

You so craaaazy! If we three-peat ............................ I'll be very happy about that![]()
I can not remember there being one other Hawks supporter in my primary or secondary school and my high school was the largest in Victoria. Young hawks supporters were exceeding thin on the ground in those days. I don't think I can't remember meeting another real (I exclude the rat lady as she was from NSW) hawks supporter in civil circles until the mid 80's.
Me too, but they all wriggled out of the woodwork circa 2007

With all the talk of back to back Brisbane were mentioned as doing it twice.
Personally, I don't think it should be viewed that way though.

Can't change history but discussed at length for years was the controversial Argus VFL finals system used from 1902 to 1930, with it's variations of a finals round-robin format, was a dogs breakfast with the main issue being the minor premier could challenge to play in the Grand Final if they were eliminated during the preceeding finals matches. The hot debate in the early days was the minor premier should have an advantage to become the major premier in finals over a team who finished 3rd, 4th, 5th etc. In 1929 and 1930 Collingwood (as minor premiers) used their right to challenge and Grand Final rematches were held, and Collingwood won both. In 1932 the Page-McIntyre finals system was introduced which formed the basis of the system used today.
I went to school in Glenferrie Road in the heart of Hawthorn, and there were only a few Hawks there. I wonder how many have converted today?
If we 3peat, what we will do is simple, prepare for 2016.
This
Carlton 1906-08, Melbourne 1939-41 and Melbourne 1955-57 are the only 'pure' three peats (until Hawthorn 2013-15 rolls around that is!)
