The Giants are hopeful that Josh Kelly will feature in match simulation sessions this week, having undergone hip surgery across the summer. It's a similar story for Kieren Briggs, who had an operation on his knee across the break but has mostly returned to full duties. Both should be available for the side's upcoming practice games. Stephen Coniglio should return in the coming weeks following shoulder surgery, but the club is yet to determine whether he'll feature in any scratch matches. Toby Bedford is returning from a quad issue, but is on track for Opening Round, while Josh Fahey is recovering from a stress fracture in his foot. However, Fahey – alongside Jake Riccardi, Toby McMullin, Harvey Thomas and Joe Fonti – won't be available for the start of the season regardless due to suspension following an incident at the club's end-of-season event last year. – Riley Beveridge

Green picked up the calf complaint during an intra-club match simulation four weeks out from the season, the Giants confirmed on Tuesday. GWS are hoping Green will only miss their matches against the Magpies and Melbourne before a round-two bye.

Green joins forward Callum Brown (hamstring) and midfielder Ryan Angwin (ankle) on the injury list, the duo also facing four to six weeks in rehabilitation.

The Giants are hopeful veteran midfielder Stephen Coniglio will line up for opening round. Ruled out for their Swans clash, Coniglio is likely to feature against Carlton after undergoing facial surgery and a shoulder reconstruction in the off-season.

Defender Josh Fahey - who must first serve a four-match suspension - remains on the sidelines indefinitely with a foot injury.

Media reporting:

Callum Brown: Suffered a hamstring injury last week at training; between four to six weeks out.

Ryan Angwin: Ankle, out for about six weeks.

Josh Fahey: Foot, out for about six weeks.

Tom Green: Four to six weeks with a calf strain.

Stephen Coniglio: Expected to be okay for Round One.

Tom Green was very complimentary about James Leake in the Members Connect the other night. Said he has been tearing up the training paddock and predicted a debut sometime early in 2025. Turns out that debut might come even sooner given this untimely injury.

Still, if you're going to miss 4-6 weeks with a calf then I guess it's better to do that a couple of weeks before the season starts.

Tom Green determined to be back from injury before our round 2 bye

Green suffered the injury during an intraclub match simulation four weeks out from their March 9 hitout against Collingwood at Engie Stadium.

Should he suffer setbacks, the 24-year-old could have more time out than the original prognosis of four to six weeks

That is an outcome Green is refusing to entertain.

"If there's any opportunity for me to get back before (the round two bye), I'm not going to be leaving any stone unturned," Green said on Thursday.
