Looks like Scotty Welsh isnt to far off from resuming with the Westies for a couple of games. Has listed on the site that he is being tested this week, also showed on the news that he is training with the squad.

I wonder how our foward line will function. The coaching staff might even have him in half foward- always thought he was better equipped for more of a running position compared with a foward pocket. Any thoughts???

I think Scott Welsh is great HF Flanker as he showed last year before getting injured. He is also equally good playing out of forward pocket. The think I like about Welshy is that he is medium size (188 cm), who is a good overhead, and he is a very good crumber. He applies a lot of pressure to keep the ball inside our 50.

Few of you might remeber that in 2001 Welsh was given some time as a midfielder for a few games and has shown that he is more than capable of playing in the midfield. If he is over his OP, I woulddn't mind getting him fitter and giving him a bit of a run on the wing or through the middle at times. He uses the ball well and would present a bit of a headache for the opposition to match up on him. IMHO Welsh is much more than just a forward, he just needs to get fit enough to be able to play in the midifeld role

He'll need 3 to 4 games with Westies for match conditioning. He'll add plenty when he's right again.

No doubt. I was hopeing he would be ready for the SHowdown but I think he might be longer than that. Maybe match againt the kangaroos or Collingwood (rd 6 or 7). I think he would add so much to the side.

It will be dissapointing if he misses the showdown, hasnt he missed the last one or two???
