Unless something radically changed or they find some kind of underlying issue with Reid, I cannot see how he will ever make it back to senior level. A calf strain for anyone but Reid is a 2-3 week injury at worst. For Reid it is season ending. Pretty devastated he cannot get back on the park.

It's just been Freeman's hamstring that's held him back, Reid does a different soft tissue injury every week.
So if Reid's hamstring had kept him out of the game for 18 months no one would care?

Freeman? Been injured the entire time hes been on an AFL list.

He's only been around 1.5 years. I'll give the benefit of the doubt there.

What's strange with Reid is that it started last year. If you look at the stats, he's playing around 20 games each year since 2010. his other soft tissue injuries have only been 1 or 2 weekers. But it seems like this will now never get right.

Where does it say he's out for the season?

It doesn't. Logic says he's out for the year. Buckley said himself last night, they have a deadline on when he can reasonable be expected to return. At some point, it will be too late. We're now in what Round 15? Only 7 or 8 rounds left before finals.

They've said they want him to get a decent "block" of VFL games in before considering him for AFL.

Given he's not playing this week, a "decent block" would suggest minimum 2-3 games. Which means Round 19 or so before he's considered for AFL, at a minimum. That's assuming he only misses one more week of VFL and doesn't injure himself, AGAIN.

Best case scenario is him being back for a potential second final. Best case. But let's be honest. He won't be back this year. It will either be too late, or he'll hurt himself one more time.

I don't think hes exactly old enough for this to be such a massive decline. It wouldn't surprise me if this is a Gary Ablett type incident where the club (or player) is just being ultra ultra conservative to the point where Ben might say "It's a little bit tight today" for a response of "don't worry about training just rest it"

Honestly, at this point, I'd just end the season for him now. No training, no games, nothing. Just let that damn calf heal properly and then have him attack pre-season properly and start fresh so we can hopefully get a full season out of him.

Agreed, our real window doesn't open before then so lets drape him in velvet like George Costanza and called it the Summer of Ben

Some of these injuries seem to linger longer these days than they used to. Or maybe I just don't remember them that well. Ramsay was originally a week or two wasn't he. Has missed 9 and is still medium/long term. I assume that means we've seen the last of him this year. In the Seniors anyway. Freeman the same. Reid also. There must be a bit of luck to it though. Didn't Marsh rip his hammy off the bone? He seems to have come back ok.

The only comfort you can take is that the club will be doing everything they can to get them right. They don't want players on the injury list either. We are actually doing a lot better at the moment than we have in the previous 2-3 years

Because the other five were very ordinary and prior to 2014 he was very much a vfl level footballer
2010 played 17 games averaging 18 disposals and looks like the next few years were cruelled by availability/opportunity and then he matures late 2013 and been getting elite numbers ever since

I'm done questioning the club after watching Varcoe go from inconsistent marshmallow to wrecking ball overnight

Scharenberg did a knee and has come back quicker than guys doing calves and hammys.

He was pretty starved for opportunity in those years, and I just don't think there is any point ignoring his most recent (and coincidentally) best year at AFL level.

Bad news on Reid & Freeman.
I'm sure they are more disappointed than anyone on this board.
The club has become a little gun shy with regard to injuries.
Treading carefully not to upset/alarm the ever demanding supporter base.
Which ever way they go (pessimistic or optimistic) with injury diagnosis...they cannot win.
Everyone at the club wants Reid & Freeman playing as soon as they can.
Hopefully that will be soon.
Spare a thought for Morabito & Freo supporters...

Like last year after he did his hammy against Brisbane, sent out to rest till preseason, and as soon as he put decent load onto it during preseason he breaks down. The rest won't help.
It is becoming increasingly worrying that is now carrer threatening

Just pick him for the AFL asap, ready or not, so he can get 100 games and we can get father/son in the future.
