Best source each week seems to be Doc Larkins report on the Sunday footy show.

Regarding Collingwood players;

Shaw; Hamstring/Back soreness = Doubt
Medhurst; Ankle = Doubt
Beams; Abductor Strain = 1 week
Didak; Hamstring = 2-3 weeks
Rocca; Gastro/Ankle = Probable

Not looking too good, seems like Rocca might be the only one to come up next week, with Shaw and Medhurst an outside chance.

Others;

Sean Rusling; Shoulder(hand?) = 2-3 weeks
Ben Johnson; Broken Leg = 4-5 weeks

McCarthy should be right for next weeks VFL match.

Gee, some bad injuries there. Didak out for 2-3 is a disapointment. Medhurst is a doubt which isnt good. I think Dick will come in for Medders(if he doesnt come up) and Sidebottom straight swap for Beams.

Its sooo frustrating, just when you think theyre coming back in, OH nOO!! wait, 2-3 weeks! bloody hell, i wish they would just tell us, not have rusling on 1-2 weeks for 4 weeks (i know he injured his hand, am referring to the NAB cup and first few rounds)

Never seem to lose the ordinary players to injury.

At a glance I'd think we'll make 2 changes with Beams and Macaffer out and Rocca and Shaw in.

That's very crap!
I didn't even notice beams or medhurst injure themselves or go off.
Looks like a few changes this week. IN: Sidebottom!!!

I really want McCarthy to get fit and get some senior games under his belt. It's going to be super-important for us and for his development.

Yep, just love his level of intensity. Need some tough nuts in the guts.

Refresh my memory, whats his speed like? seems an eternity since i saw him play.

Why the secrecy re. McCarthy and Rusling? Its starting to annoy me. Do they really think that opposition clubs really give a **** about these players and when they return? How selfish is this club? Just tell us when we are trully expecting these players back. I want to know how far away Rusling is. Just be honest to your supporters!

I think mdc rates him as "quick enough" whereas I'd have him closer to "genuinely quick" ;)

He's slower than Barham and faster than Cook, IMHO.

and our next 3 weeks are season defining, we must come out of it 2-1
Saints (our home game at the dome?? wtf)

No secrecy on mccarthy, he's been listed on injuryupadate.com.au as having a hamstring strain for the last 3 or 4 weeks. It just hasn't been picked up, probably because not many people care, as you said.

They are very very important players to us, that we know will add to our side quickly

Also oppo sides dont know a heap about them, and the less they know teh better.

So, for the Saints this week, I would make the changes....

OUT: Beams (Inj.) Medders (inj.)
IN: Stanley Cox/Shaw

A big net loss in those changes.

Medders in particular is a huge loss, especially with Didak out. He not only scores goals but sets up several each game. I can't think of a decent replacement. Brad Dick is no Medhurst!

Saints have a wealth of mobile talls, who are going to cause big defensive problems for us. I can't see either Brown being dropped for that reason and we may even have to recall Goldy. Under no circumstances should Rocca come back in this week. Fisher, Goddard & Co. will rebound off him all day long, safe in the knowledge that he won't be chasing them!

I reckon that our best chance is an relatively small, unpredictable/uncoventional forward line, with JA, Cloke, Thomas, Davis, Tarks and even Maxwell providing most of the goals.

Worst possible injuries at worst possible time. try as I might, I just can't see us winning this game. Hope we don't get blown away.

I went to the VFL game on Saturday and made the following observations:
*Stanley played solidly all day but Rusty played better, he was on fire.
*Brad Dick needs another year in the two's and a few more hamburgers, he is too slight for AFL at this stage.
*The Sack was AWFUL (and Im a fan of his) but he cost us three goals with lazy checking on his man. He half redeemed himself in the last but looked to be blowing all day. Fitness must be down.
*Cox was BRILLIANT and never should have been dropped. He taught both teams a football lesson on Sat-B.O.G.
*Scott Reed (who I thought showed absolutely nothing the previous week) was incredible in defence all day and almost pulled down a ripping hanger..

So for my two cents worth:
*Saints will kill us if Rocca plays, can you imagine the damage an in form Sam Fisher will do running off him all day?
*Didak is irreplaceable. Pray he comes back a week early for the Carlscum game.
* OUT: Medhurst, Beams (inj.), L.Brown (omitted)-i would have added Rocca here but MM will not drop him dammit.
IN: Cox, Sidebottom, Bryan.

Paul Medhurst has not been ruled out. He would be doubtful for a weekend match, but he may very well play because the match is on Monday night. I don't think Shannon Cox will play though.

Collingwood can definitely beat St.Kilda in 2009, but it's going to be difficult to do it next week though. Too many important Collingwood players possibly missing, particularly if Jack Anthony is suspended as well, and they are currently playing too well.

Anthony Rocca has a good record at this ground, so I think he will play. He must win in the air though, and Collingwood players must be at the fall of the ball to prevent the ball from rebounding out of defence too easily.

Rocca will play cuz of the Zac Dawson issue.... Nothing harder for a young defender to come up againt the player who destroyed you last time he played on him! Medhurst will play I reckon as its a Monday night game, and you would have to promote Stanley! Has over 35 possesions for a number of weeks doesnt get a game, then plays on the half forward flank kicks 4?? Possibility...

Ross Lyon may be a goose but he will not be silly enough to play Dawson on Rocca. Fisher will take Pebs and have him for dinner. Dawson will take T.Cloke who is struggling badly.

Stanley was good on Saturday no doubt, but I still doubt his capability to match it at AFL level. His 4 goals were all the result of superb delivery by Cox and Rusty. But definitely a good solid 4 quarters by Stanley. Happy for him to prove me wrong at senior level but if there is one (extra) thing that annoys me about MM's coaching style is that he rarely rewards players for effort in the VFL.

Will be annoyed if McCaffer gets dropped next week and will be annoyed if Pebs plays.

Stanners was far more superior than Rusty everyone else that went seems to think it also. He dominated not just had a solid game.It is hard for some to give credit where credit due. As for the 4 goals all being given is just not true did you not see the mark where he outbodied 2 -3 players and kicked a goal if that was superb delivery I'll go hee.
Cox looked for Stanners and did pass to him a fair bit. Stanners I gather was the go to man as he is known for his marking ability and strong hands.
Do not worry Sidbottom will get his chance soon but was no where near Stanners this week.
Also Stanners has been playing a new role and it looks like he has mastered it. To get best in a losing side against the reining premiers is an accomplishment. It was not against witches hats it was against quality.

I'd say that Beams will miss against the Saints. We do have a 10 day break so he'll probably be right...Doc wasn't too concerned about him. But given the fact it is his first year he will most likely be rested.

That leaves 1 of Sidebottom, Stanley or J-Mac to replace i reckon. All is good form at VFL.

I don't know about Heath Shaw at the moment...if he has hamstring/back issues, then I don't think we should rush him back. But he has missed a lot of football now, and was obviously close this week and with a 10 day break he should be pretty close. Still think he is important to us...if for nothing else he takes a tag.

Opinions wouldn't be opinions if everyone had the same one. I stand by my comments. I agree that maybe its harder for some to give Stanners credit where credit is due (and I'll put my hand up for that) but on the flip side, some supporters are blinded every time he bends over. There has to be a happy medium in between.

BTW..this on the Age site, a small glimmer of hope:
Sam Fisher (St K) shoulder. Injured A-C joint early in the game. Returned to the field but will be sore today. Doubtful this week.

lets hope JA doesnt get rubbed out after his 'groin head butt'
no wonder MM went ballistic

and why hasnt Harris been cited for trying to smash Wellinghams face in ?
