Rusling!? On the injury list!? This is quite a revelation!

With Rusling and Anthony out, does this mean Dawes will be playing out of the goalsquare on Friday night then? Or will they just rotate Fraser and/or Jolly through (whoever isn't rucking at the time)?

It is a good question, and one I was thinking about last night.

With Anthony and Rusling out (and Cloke arguably underdone), then three of our top 4 key forwards are potentially missing.

I think we will see Cloke play, and both Fraser and Dawes play in the forwardline. Wood will likely play as Jolly's backup to allow Fraser to spend more of his time forward (but don't hold your breathe for all three playing much together during the year...)

I reckon Dawes has to play given the absence of JA & Sean (1 week) Rusling.

If they don't let Dawes play ff or chf alone and let him make a few mistakes but give him a fair dinkim crack in the nab cup then I doubt whether he'll get a fair crack during the season and the. I would doubt whether he'd be at collingwood in 2011. Would be a real shame. I see a lot of potential in him. Just needs to be given a fair go. Same as Reid. Rusling I think should be behind Dawes for the forward position

So you've gone from perhaps not playing in an NAB cup match to leaving the club in 2011 in one single bound

By all reports Leigh Brown has been killing it at training and in the Forward line

Dont be surprised to see Leigh Brown take over from Rocca round 1

He would have to be really killing it to be kept in the side as a main forward and not pinch hitting in the ruck for the regular season. Otherwise we are holding back either Dawes or Rus for a stop gap solution.

I'd like to see Cloke at FF and Dawes at CHF.

I think we'll see Leroy at FF and Cloke at CHF with Dawes on the bench.

I'd like to see this too.

I think your second point is more likely to happen. We could have three talls in the same forward line though so I don't think Dawes will sit on the bench much.

It's all about finding the right mix.

No matter how Brown is seen. He has to lose his spot to a layer who is showing more. If Brown starts as FF it will because he has been showing the form.
That's not to say Cloke or Dawes or even Reid for that matter won't be the encumbent come the season proper.

Agreed. People are a bit harsh on Leigh Brown. If he's shown good form then he deserves to be considered for selection like any other player. He's shown himself to be a capable pinch hitter, and Malthouse clearly likes what he's done for the side so I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be playing if he's shown better form than Dawes.

i was down at training this morning and thomas has bulked up alot during the summer any chance we might see him play forward more often?

I actually like L Brown. I like the way he goes about his footy. I was just trying to make the point the reason he played most games last year was that he was playing the backup ruckman and swinging forward on occasions. Whereas this year he will not be needed to be a back up ruckman or probably needed in defence, so he does need another ace up his sleeve. If he is killing it up forward all fair and well but if his form fades then he should be replaced by a longer term option if they are showing a bit of form. On last years form (have not seen any pre season training) although he showed he can get the ball inside the forward 50 his conversion was most times ordinary. He would have needed to improve dramatically from what we saw last year up forward to take on a permanent forward role.
