No, Australian Footbal just keeps getting better and better .

You seem to be the sports equivalent of a cultural cringer.l

Does it. I remember the 80s mate. Van Der Haar v Knights.

Teams actually taking contested marks.

Not just glorified circle work like at Ethihad.

No it is relevant. A whole lot of people hate Michael Clarke even though he is Aussie captain.

Aussies love to be apathetic.
I dont hate Clarke, I'm completely apathetic as I stopped giving a shit about cricket when the team turned into a bunch of arrogant w***ers many years ago and havent missed it since and so feel no need to go back.

My exact point.

After rubbishing International Rules for years, the rugby codes are now going to stage their own hybrid game. Interestingly they are going to pay each player $100,000.00 to play.

An interesting development with many similarities.
IR is played between two vaguely similar codes that allows promotion at the at international level and allows interplay at the grassroots level. Like Rugby 7s it's firmly in the promtional tool arena.
A Rugby compromise game would be played between somewhat similar codes and initially it seems that the reason is for money. Both codes don't really need promotion because they both have their own WCs. Like the IR series there would be a high curiosity level and also a high number of people saying "why would you bother". If this is not just another Tele beatup and it does happen probably the worst thing that could happen is for it to be succesful. There would be a call for compromise rugby to be the norm and the rugbies would be divided into three camps - RU, rl and CR. This division would then be replicated on the world stage. If CR could complete the coup then the world order changes with Australia and then GB getting a huge boost leaving tradional RU countries in their wake.
IMO it's possible to play stripped down RU but compromise rules are harder task than at first glance. Having just debated some minor rules changes for the benefit of RU and having been shot down unaminously by the RU purists and the odd rl fan I don't see this going anywhere soon.
