Oh, and anyone for Flash on your iPhone ;)

Add http://repo.benm.at/ to Cydia.

It's called 'Frash' and it is developed by the new wonderkid of the Jailbreak Community, Comex (who is responsible for Jailbreakme.com).

Mixed reviews on fluidity of flash in Safari, and I am currently downloading, so will post my experiences soon.

Update Edit:

Still buggy and kinda slow, but you cannot expect much for something not meant to work. Will obviously get better.

AFL.com.au crashes Safari :p NRL.com works fine. Stupid AFL.com.au

Alternate is heading to http://apptrackr.org/, download the app on your Mac/PC, then sync it onto the iPhone. This could be faster as you could be able to download the apps at a faster rate, pending the sharing site the app is hosted on.

AppTrackr and Installous are from the same people.

How do you put your downloaded cracked app into itunes to sync it on your iphone?

Once the donwload from AppTrackr is done, you will have an IPA file (.ipa)

To open that, double click it, and it will appear in the Apps tab of iTunes. Then sync away.

Also, make sure you have 'iTunes Sync' as ON in Installous, as this will sync apps you downloaded on your iPhone into iTunes on your Mac/PC.

Thanks sblack! It came up with error first time I did it but that is because the app I had tested with hadn't fully downloaded. I just thought that their would be more to it!

Did it only crash when you selected the Lions game? :p

How do you do those screen shots, is it via iTunes on your PC?

And is there any other decent browser besides Safari that iHeads use? Or is Safari the best?

Haha, nah crashed trying to load the full AFL.com.au site. Turned of Frash after that (SbSettings toggle :thumbsu:

That's a screenshot straight from the iPhone. Click the Home and the Sleep (top button) at the same time. Will take a screenshot and dump it in Camera Roll.

I haven't tried any other browser. I think there is an Opera in the AppStore, but that was before iPhone 4 and iOS4, so don't know if there are others. r+b is the king of apps, any other browsers out there?

^^^ Thanks.

Just so I'm clear:
1) Jailbreak allows for free purchase of all apps from the AppStore? I've done the JB but when I go into Appstore the apps still have the price on them. e.g Angry Birds is listed as $0.99. Is this normal after a JB?

2) Cydia + Installous allows for free purchase of apps that are not listed in the Appstore? Again, the apps have prices next to them, is this normal?

I think I may have screwed up the install of Cydia; during the install it asked to keep an ECID(?) for their records so that any apps purchase could be tied to this ECID, they suggested I accept so that I wouldn't get charged for purchases however I accidentally rejected the request by mistake. It still proceeded to install anyway but not the way it recommended. Any way to fix this? I don't know how to uninstall / install again...

Thx!

You need to install Installous. It's like an appstore. You can then go thru lists of applications, download them, install them, done.

ECID just means that if you update to a newer software where the jailbreak doesn't work, you have these ECID files saved on a server somewhere so you can downgrade to the software that does allow jailbreaking.

Nah you're off the mark a fair bit.

1. Jailbreaking simply allows to to run unsigned code... i.e. software that hasn't been pre-authorised by Apple and uploaded to their App Store. Cydia is an example of this, and is installed as part of the process. Cydia allows you to download a range of "homebrew" software... software made by people that generally wouldn't be authorised by the App Store.

2. Installous is a "homebrew" program (installed via Cydia) that allows you to download and install illegal copies of software that is normally available on the App Store, and therefore get it for free. The files aren't coming from the App Store, and are hosted on various file sharing sites on the web.

If you try to download them through the App Store, you'll be paying for it. Personally I'd spend the 99 cents for Angry Birds though, a whole lot of game for a dollar. The developers deserve the money.

Now I'm confused  I drew the conclusion that JB allows you to purchase apps from the AppStore for free based on these posts from sblack:

Can install any app from the AppStore for free

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showpost.php?p=18600969&postcount=213
I find the best reason to JB is the ability to put any app from the official AppStore on for free.

Or was he referring to the Installous AppStore as opposed to the official Apple AppStore?

I understood from sblack that Installous was for software NOT normally available from the Appstore. i.e the apps that don't make it.

If something gets rejected from the official AppStore, you will most likely see it on Cydia soon after

Angry Birds was just an example. I've got no issue with paying for apps that I like, so I normally employ a "try before you buy" policy. I've seen and heard of many paid apps which have been garbage.

Now I'm confused  I drew the conclusion that JB allows you to purchase apps from the AppStore for free based on these posts from sblack:

What he meant was that the commercial apps that are normally only available by purchasing them from the App Store can actually be acquired for free after you jailbreak (via Cydia/Installous). You obviously took that to mean that you still continue to use the App Storee to get these apps, only for free. Understandable mistake to make but it wasn't exactly what sblack said.

Nah everything he said was correct. Note that he was talking about Cydia, not Installous.

Sorry for the confusion, my bad  Forgot that people who have never experienced this, find this hard to all take in quickly. I was the same. Fiddling and restoring my original iPhone all the time. Even harder was explaining it to friends because they wanted free stuff.

TBD has explained it well. Listen to him :p

How worth it is jailbreaking it?

I just tried it on an old iPod Touch and had no problems. I'm very tempted to do it to my iPhone but I'm a bit wary. I also just found an app on Cydia which allows the phone to be a USB flash drive (and I've lost 2 USB sticks in the space of a term at school so it would be a very big help).

Depends on how satisfied you are without the Jailbroken apps, and if you are willing to pay for official apps.

I use USB drive as well. Works flawlessly.

I'm more than satisfied but I could definitely do with more. ;)

Stuff it I'm going to do it. You'd have to be very unlucky if you couldn't restore it if needed anyway.

Got my iPhone 4 today :) Apparently they only had two come in

Got mine today. At home connected to my wifi it seriously struggles to load up any page at all. It says "Cannot open page: Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding".

Any ideas what the issue may be? I have the maximum bar connection.

I ended up going into the settings and reset the network settings to default, and it's working fine now.

I'm not sure if I'm going through my wifi at the moment though, so I reckon you may be correct.

Thanks man.

If the wifi logo is at the top of your screen

i.e this logo (without the cross through it obviously)

Copy%20of%20Wi%20Fi%20logo.jpg

then you are using WiFi.

If that logo isn't there, and it says 3G or E, then it is using your phone data allowance.

I die a little every day I don't get a call from my local 3 shop. Still waiting to replace my shitty nokia 6500 slide .

Just some questions on downloading things from installous..
Sometimes I get the error 'unexpected content' when trying to download something, and sometimes I can download an app but when I try to install it I get 'invalid IPA'..
Anyway to fix these things or do I just have to try another link?

EDIT: I've also had a bit of a problem with some apps which seem to download fine. Then I go to open them and they just close pretty much straight away.

They're just dodgey files, keep trying different sources until you find one that works

Thanks mate! Bloody annoying! I downloaded 'Let's Golf 2' which is 300mb only to have it says 'invalid IPA'! And there's only one link for it!

A couple of other questions..
1) Does anyone have the app 'consume'? I've tried to link it up to my telstra phone account but it won't work! Not sure what I'm doing wrong..
2) Does anyone have 'Hipstamatic'? Are you able to download the 'hisptapaks' without paying for them?

Are there any iphone 4 plans around $50-60? Also what time frame would I be looking at in the worst case scenario trying to get one now?

Also are there any good BYO iPhone plans out there. I wouldn't mind buying one outright but it looks like you still have to sign up for 24 months anyway with BYO plans.
