And who's more of an outside player, Dal, or Jonesy? Think about it, then scroll down.

CJ had 355 touches, of which 91 were contested. That = 26.5% of his possessions.

Dal had 523 touches, of which 146 were contested. That = 27.9% of his possessions.

Meh, I found it interesting.

And yeah, I know I've been making a few threads lately, sew me. :p

Settle down on the stats my brother.

Nicky Dal was top 3 in the league for contested footy in 2005. He has the ability, he just really dropped off this year.

Any ideas what to have for dinner my brothers?

i think a hard ball get is when like a ball is there to be won and a player puts his body on the line, dives it and wins it or something along those lines if u know what i mean. I THINK. A clarification would be good.

Yeah I just found it interesting that everyone was calling Dal an outside player, and Jonesy an inside. When the stats pretty much show they're the same.

Jones dropped off a bit, says he average 40% possessions were Contested last year.

So the stats are kinda similar? Like there wouldn't be a large discepancy between someones HBG's and CP's?

I reckon dal goes a little bit harder but joeys role isnt to be hard it is to run through the midfield so it can be compared.

yeh but the chances are the more of the footy you get, the more contested ball u will get

Not necessrily, a guy can get plenty of the footy but not win it and simply be link up man, this is inherently why Chips isn't known for his contested footy and is instead known for his chaining & offload to the runners. Still racks up the possies, still racks up the impact in setting up but his contested footy & hardball gets would be limited to immediate defensive efforts.

Individual roles negate certain stats where a player is more effective when used properly in the team dynamic, probably why Jones' contested footy dropped from his averages since he was used more as a run with bit player than an inside extractor.

Dal is actually an inside player. He gets a lot of possessions in packs but he does it in a way that is Mark Waugh-esque: he makes it look so easy that no one watching the game considers the possession to be "hard". I think his softness comes from his running. He sometimes doesn't get to enough contests and his defensive running can be below par.

its jones, not joey..

on the other side, Dal Santo just isn't consistently dominate while being heavily tagged.. he came 3rd in the brownlow and just hasn't stepped up to where he 'should' be... if he actually played more like Ball then maybe people would appreciate his efforts a little better...
