Don't go doubting yourself TT. There is a difference between posting drivel for no reason and firing off a quick quip if you're in a jovial mood. I'm prone to the odd one-liner here and there myself but it always has an intention. Your quality posting gives you the right to post something less than intelligent once in a while if you wanted too but still your quality remains high and you are always going somewhere with it.

And then you have people, who feel the need to post every single detail of their personal lives on here. I'm not talking about people bringing up something that happened to them, that might be of interest/humour to others. But rather people who discuss topics that no one else but themselves would be interested in.

And what's the deal with people turning the forums into a chat site discussing trivial details of their own personal lives in a conversational manner? If people want to post one line replies to each other (like in a conversation), for sanity's sake do it in the chat room, instead of clogging up the forum boards. That is not what the forum is designed for.

It's not a matter of deciding just not to read these topics either. For starters, a lot of decent topics and other boards besides just the general board are being taken over by this type of crap.

Secondly, these huge nonsense topics make computers run slow. It takes ages to load bigfooty these days, whereas it never used to in the past. What's the point in loading up a forum full of one-line conversational style posts, when it slows the thing down for everyone?

Do people think they'll be noticed more, because of their huge tally of posts, and the fact that they've got a whole load of one-line nonsense posts in almost every topic?

I bet I'm not the only one to feel this way either. Perhaps no one else will come on here and agree with me, but you can put that down to not wanting to be slagged off by those who are the main perpetrators of this nonsense.

Chances are that m_sm is an alias.

I' d be happy to let people think it's me (even though it isn't) because I agree wholeheartedly.

Freedom of choice etc etc I know but I when see people posting one line trivial crap in response to someone elses one line trivial crap that is taking things too far.

Someone else mentioned it but I think the idea of dropping post counts has some merit; may stop people from feeling obliged to post simply to keep their numbers up.

TT, I wasn't referring to witty one-liners, nor "humourous" topics, that you and others bestoy on bigfooty, which other people may genuinely have an interest in.

I have no problem with that type of thing.

The type of posting I am talking about, is the stuff that should be kept to a chat room, or emails. Things that inherently, only a very few people will be interested in. For instance, an exclusive conversation between a few people.

I am talking about topics that go on for pages with posts like:

Per1: "how you doing babe?"
Per2: "not bad babe, kiss kiss"
Per1: "love ya babe kiss kiss"
etc.
etc.

And on it goes for pages and pages.

And then you have other topics, which start out being interesting, only to be taken over by this sort of crap.

Not only does this slow the whole site down, it also is extremely annoying for a number of users, and not what the forum is designed for.

I don't understand the reasoning behind this sort of posting, unless people are trying to boost their post tallies, or make some public show of themselves to boost their own ego because they like to think they have more of a life by flirting on bigfooty.

On General Talk, anything goes. There can be posts ranging from 'Best BigFooty Avatar' to 'Most influential Band' and the issues like 'Do You Support Howard In Refusing Refugees'.

Then there is the witty work of folks like TigerTank, DCFC, and Mr Ripper.

The one liners which annoy everyone are the ones from folks like Carlton_is_Cool and the likes. Everyone hates those.

General Talk is exactly that, general talk. You cantalk about whatever you like, and it gets away from the banter about football, which is good. You learn about people on here.

If you want strictly footy talk, stick to the AFL board.

On your nickname, you should have just used your normal alias. If you were Mr Ripper or Dan25, you would have evoked the same response, and yes, your words probably would have had more credence.

But it's not like we only listen or take in what people have to say if they only have 2000 posts. If someone posts something of quality in their first post, they get kudos and respect. If someone posts absolute crap on their first post, they have to earn it and they get told about it. Hell, in my first post, I got bagged, and to be honest, I don't know if my standard has lifted.

Blues_Brat is a good contributor, so leave him alone. His point is valid, that you have an alias for an alias...

Anyway, we can't rid of the post count, I'm about to rack up my 2000th!

Also, I question your motive behind using a different alias to your normal BF one, maybe it is because you don't want to seem hypocritical as you have taken part in some of these "boring"threads in the past & don't want people to know that. It may be called GENERAL talk, but it is also called a FORUM. Forums on the internet are not intended to be used as personal chat threads. It INCONVIENIENCES other users of the site, as it slows the entire site down.

Neither did I think the intention of the general board was for it to be manipulated by a handful of people who are out to pump themselves up at every turn, or to post ridiculous one-liners in a "chat" style between an exclusive circle of people.

If topics are going to be of interest to users, then by all means they should be posted. Where did I say they shouldn't? Don't be pathetic and take my words out of context - it only proves you cannot respond to a topic with any sense or logic.

I am talking about people using threads for their own personal discussions that aren't intended to involve other people. This type of thing should be kept to e-mails, chat-rooms, and PM's. Either that, or people should start their own yahoo group to discuss their personal lives, rather than clutter up the boards with topics that don't concern others on the site.

As for not posting under a "different" name, I rest my case. Why should I? So you people can come on and hurl abuse? Spare me. This name is no different to any other name on here. A name, is a name, is a name. Those who try to bring this discussion down to a "it's not your real name" argument, are nothing short of pathetic. You're not even addressing the real issue. Site running slowly? When? How longs a page taking for you to open? On my comp its a second or two tops. Be interested to here others (sandie, ODN, Hitman) on how speed is for them.

There is room enough on this site (apparently) that we have mulitple forums for multiple discussions. The bandwidth must be large enough for Bluey and Johnny Quest to allow these multiple rooms I dont understand why you need be so concerned about there use.

A little thing called 'Free speech' is in work within this site. Its up to the operators of the site and the people that they choose to appoint as moderators as to the content allowed and that which isnt. Not you or I.

If you really dont like the direction of how things are Im sorry. Personally (again) I dont have a problem with it so long as their is no direct abuse towards others.

I was going to mention the speed factor, my computer only takes a couple of seconds to open unless someone has posted a pic, takes a little longer then.

Quite franky Grendel, I think that is just a red herring thrown in to try & back up his arguments why certain topics shouldn't be on BF.

One thing I forgot to mention to him/her is, that if they disagree with a thread all they have to do is report it to the moderators & if they agree it is rubbish they will delete/close it, or leave it open, because after all they are the ones to say what is right & what is wrong for BF, not some disgruntled poster.
