good to have him back on the park. I though his injection in the game was the turning point. Inside midfielder who can win clearances and contested footy

New rule - no more sub for Bundy.Stick an old coot on the bench as sub [i.e JC].
It was just a waste having him sit on the bench twiddling his thumbs for more than half a game.

I thought we already learnt that. And some guys will be lucky if they are still considered for subs. Waste of time now. Might as well make Horlin Smith etc a sub

Even my wife -- Thai, generally only notices players if their pants get ripped down -- was asking me with genuine mystification why the short bloke who looked like Stokes only got put on in the third quarter. Instant lift. Bloke is a jet.

When GFC put out the "Footy Full On" thing, Bundy was there, and I though, you beauty. Really annoys me that he's still being kept in the shadows a bit.

Still, what do I know. There's probably some good reason.

lol@ first bit...

Anyway I would only hope Bundy was the sub tonight because of match fitness since he was out for so long... hope that is not the case for the rest of the season..

I don't think he is our most important player, but he is clearly in our best 18, yet has been puzzlingly named as sub on a few occasions in his short career when I thought his form warranted a full game.

I love watching him play, he makes the most of every contest.

Yes thats it - fitness.

So the good news is his calf held up....... and he is a gun.

Thats about the end of the good news - except West confirmed his ability and Bartel is clearly a champion.

I agree he is a star but I wont blame then for starting as a sub. He played AFL what, 6 weeks ago? Played half a VFL game before being knocked out a few weeks ago. I reckon they had worries he would run out of steam come the end of the game so started his as sub, almost worked too he was fantastic.
On that tho I agree with above, WHY play young talented kids as subs when wastes of space like Corey, Stokes and Pods are starting 18? Start one of those as the sub!
Those 3 I mentioned surely are only getting games due to reputation now (lesser Stokes, hes been ok this year but in-consistant), Corey is gone, he tries but hes gone and if Pods isnt injured then he's lazy, FFS dude who wrestle with guys who ARE BEATING YOU and start actually running at the ball! Atleast thats something Hawkins does well, he runs at the footy, he hits contests with force even if his kicking for goal is woeful (7 marks, 5 contested).
Pods leading and jumping and actually taking marks is better than Pods sitting back wrestling and trying to win "over the back" loose balls. Might also straighten up our ball use and stop us kicking it to Stokes or Stevie 1 out if Pods actually starts leading.
We have so many issues (slow starts, structure going forward, lack of winning the contested ball, lack of stopping and creating spread) but I think I've ranted enough...

Off topic but agree where was the forwards leading? Both pods and hawk can lead are tall and its harder for a defender to spoil not leading means another defender bobs up spoils or marks the pill seen to much of this in the first quarter.

In the 2nd half we forced Hawk to lead more. Instead of kicking on his head we kicked it infront of where he was standing, forcing him to get to the ball. When he hits the ball like he did in the last quarter he is unstoppable.

there has to be a player management reason for this, and given their EXCELLENT player management 2011, we'll have to accept that.

No, that would be a tie between Selwood and Bartel. But he certainly injects a certain feisty x--factor into the midfield. He has to start every game, preferably in the middle. He had a game to get some run into his legs, now let's take advantage of what he brings to us. He should not be sitting on the bench unless he is injured or resting after setting up another goal.

He's probably our most important young player [1st to 3rd year players].He's ahead of players like Duncan,Motlop and T Hunt

I tend to agree Jub, but in a way it's hard to say because he has had quite a stop-start season.

I just hope we get to see a lot more of him for the rest of the year !

Personally I've been pretty content with the form of the three young players you mentioned, and you can add in Guthrie and even Smedts to that list.
All have performed around about where I would have hoped; Motlop has certainly exceeded my expectations, Duncan & the highly-reputed Smedts have perhaps performed a tad below my expectations, though both have shown good signs.
Guthrie and Taylor Hunt have produced pretty much what I would have hoped, I believe both players are getting the best out of themselves at this stage of their respective careers.

Christensen is important in that of all those young players, he is probably the only pure midfielder of the bunch - Duncan will probably graduate to the midfield, it's hard to say though - he will definitely have the build for the role, his frame looks ready now, but whether he can develop the engine and the consistency remains to be seen.

The cupboard looks pretty light-on for midfielders apart from Bundy.

But from what I have seen so far, I would find it hard to split Motlop and Christensen when it comes to rating our best young players - when Varcoe returns we will have some of the best indigenous talent in the country running around in the hoops.

When I first saw Bundy on the bench with the red vest on I nearly threw something at the TV. Thought I'd better not as was my mate's! That would have to be the most mystifying choice I've seen Scotty make since he's been coach and I haven't seen the presser yet but if he doesn't admit in it that they got that wrong he needs 10 lashes! The difference the kid made when he came on!

Not all that surprising when he's coming back from injury and a lot of the even younger guys like Guthrie and Stringer are out. Although if I had my way I would have dropped Stokes instead of Guthrie and had Guthrie as the sub.

Bundy is streets ahead of Motlop in terms of composure and skill. Love Motlop but tonight the difference Bundy made when he came on was extraordinary.

Lets watch Christensen get the attention Selwood gets week in/week out, and see how he goes.

As has been said, Bundy is a great prospect. But Selwood is the heart and soul of the side, with a few veterans not far behind.
