Is collingwoods next coach

It's a bit premature to suggest that, but McGuane has shown a fair bit in the lesser leagues. Add to that an apprenticeship under GT, where he will learn a lot at St Kilda. You may not rate Thomas (I do), but whatever you feel of him you will probably agree that Thomas will not tolerate misbehavior of his ACs. This may do McGuane the world of good.

I don't think we would choose someone without some coaching experience at the highest level. I have also heard bad things about McGuane's coaching style.

Our next coach will likely be Mark Thompson or Malcolm Blight in my opinion. Bucks might coach down the track, but he won't be our next coach.

Has had fair results in his coaching so far according to reports. Would be a query on his character for the job from what I have heard on BF (grain of salt I understand)

Personally I think Mark Williams will be our next coach.

Heard Mark Williams say last year he would love to finish his coaching career at Collingwood due to 'unfinished business'. Has a pretty damn good record at Port Adelaide, bar the whole choking ramble. Remember... it was us who royally rooted their finals campaigns in '02 and '03...

McGuane is a fair way off from a coaching job. At least 3 or 4 years as an assistant coach to prove himself that he has the patience. A coach like Thomas will test his patience as they would be complete opposites as coaches.

Anyway as for who is OUR next coach:

Possible Current Coaches: Williams, Thompson (depends on Geelong's patience and performance), Laidley (see Thompson)

Former Coahces: Blight

Assistant Coaches: McKenna, Carey, Harvey, Royal, O'Donnell, Cresswell,

I've read somewhere that it might be Carey after he has been with us as an assistant for a couple of years.

Thoughts???

I personally think it's unlikely as this year he will only be at training and in the box whenever it doesn't clash with his Foxtel roles. Also he may accept a bid to go over to channel 7 if he really doesn't want to be a head coach. By the time Malthouse goes his mind won't be made up.

You wish.
It's obvious we are just talking about out ideas and thoughts on who could or should coach Collingwood next.
If we are going well then let Mick stay for as long as he wants!

No, but unlike Essendon fans we have no illusions of our head coach living or coaching forever, and can actually see past Mick.

Even if we make the finals the next couple of years and Mick stays until around 2008, he'll be getting old by then, and wanting to consider retirement.

He's already 52 years old, and working in a very stressful job. By the time he's 55, he may have had enough.

It's not a crime to consider who we may want after Malthouse's time is up.

I'd like to see the next coach of Collingwood come from with in, ie one that is there now. Knows whats going on has his own ideas of how to improve the club rather than the club going out chasing a coach that brings a whole new game to the club, could be good for the club but if we do get a new coach I'd like to see someone from with in take over the reigns.

I think it's always "refreshing" getting a whole new game to the club. Collingwood appointed Tony Shaw thinking he would have been a very good coach, because he was a very good player for the club, but, sometimes it doesn't work out to plan. Being a very good footballer doesn't mean you're automatically going to be a very good coach at the same club, people need to change clubs for the better of their coaching.

I believe Bucks could be a very good coach someday at Collingwood, but don't count on it.

He did a fairly good job at Burnie, raising them from nothing to a flag down here, though bush league is very different from AFL football, I would say it was a fair effort taking a club that was a pretty much nothing to a premiership.

Since then that club has grown very strong.

I hope you mean the current Sandringham double Premiership coach, not Chocko.

I think Collingwood’s next coach might be at Collingwood - Wayne Carey. If things don’t go well this year MM might make way – contract or not. If things go badly for the 3rd year in succession and MM is still the coach the AGM promises to be pretty interesting. If things go well Carey might have to look elsewhere.

If Malthouse likes yes men as has been alleged it will be interesting to see how he goes with Carey. Whatever Carey is he isn’t a yes man.

As far McGuane goes, I would love to have got him down to Williamstown to allow the club to get a close look at him and to get his input into our list. He knows a heck of a lot about footy and how to play it and he seems to em to be a good judge of a player – something MM does not seem to me to be. He would have been a good addition to our coaching panel a good coach for Willi and a handy option for our next coach. Willi would have allowed us to assess his ability to handle a team and to handle himself given some of his priors.

Anyway, good luck to McGuane. He's a Collingwood champ and I wish him well.

bloody hell, its january and we're talking about this.

we're turning into richmond ffs. :thumbsd:
That was kinda my point but you know seeing as though Im from Essendon Im not allowed to comment.

Its not over yet. McGuane can still move, and that is if we are even in the hunt for a new coach. I agree, though, he would make an excellent coach, and do a terrific job, but we'll need to wait and see whether we actually require a new coach.

I did't post it as a "lets get rid of MM thread"
but as a future coach in about five years
I should have titled it
"is collingwoods future coach, while not shyt canning MM because I think he's gonna do another 3 years and do them well"

I think its fair enough to assume we will get a new coach sooner or later. EVen Sheedy will leave Essendon some time this century. Nobody except the outside trolls saw it as a sack Malthouse thread.
