I can see a lot of similarities with what's happening now and what looks like happening in the next 4-5 years, with what happened in the first 7 years at the Adelaide Football Club.
1991 - 1994:
Graham Cornes coaches the Crows to 1 finals campaign. Is sacked at the end of 1994.
1995- 1996:
Crows endure their worst era ever, finishing at the bottom end of the ladder both years under Robert Shaw. Unbeknown to Adelaide at the time, Robert Shaw has blooded Vardy, McLeod, Riccuito, Goodwin, Caven, Bond, Johnson, Hart, Connell and a host of othe players who have valuable game time under their belts.
1997 - 1999:
The Crows are taken over by Malcolm Blight, The above mentioned players have 60-90 games of football under their belts, and with the handy tuition of Blighty the Crows win back to back premierships, before becoming somewhat stale in 1999, allowing Blight to leave.
2000 - 2004:
Gary Ayres coaches the club for 5 years (Similar tenure to Graham Cornes) getting the Crows into 3 finals series but NO premierships. Ayres tends to recruit older players like Carey, Burns etc, similar to what Cornes did with McDermott, McGuinness, Jarman etc.
2005 - 2006:
Neil Craig takes over as senior Adelaide Football Club coach. He gives the young kids a go and by the end of his tenure the club has experienced 2 years in 16th to 13th position but the likes of Reilly, Doughty, Skipworth, Rutten, Mattner, McGregor, Schuback, Bock, Hentschel, Smith, Jericho, Watts and Krueger all have 60-80 games under their belts.
2007 - 2009:
An experienced coach similar to Malcolm Blight returns to the Adelaide FC as senior coach. McLeod, Riccuito, Goodwin, Hart etc are all ready to retire and the new era are ready to come through similarly to what happened in 1997/98.
What do people think?
