Yeah well it's not just awkwardness during tough questions, he's just never going to provide entertainment value, especially on the footy show.

He's like Jimmy Bartel in that regard... great bloke in person, gun footballer, but boring and predictable in front of the cameras. Robotic I guess you could say.

I have no issue with it, I'd be pretty piss poor in the same position, but we ought to let those who are more confident and good around the media take those roles in the spotlight.

Totally agree.

I really think murphy is a gun football no doubt, but as for a captain I reckon Carrazzo just because he loves the club, He is living proof that hard work and determination can you get a long way in the afl system & I really like how he talks with a straight shooter confidence.

Or Simpson, shows 100% heart & busts a gut every game, not sure though if he is extrovert enough? Havent really seen him be very vocal.

Jamison seems to have all the leader skills but lacks game consistency through injury & I think you need your captain to be a regular on the park.

Murphy I think has to much of a metro pretty boy vibe thing going for me to see him as a front man leader, Not having a dig at the bloke, thats just who he is.

I think if there is a change in captaincy Murphy will get it.
Having said that, I wouldn't mind seeing Carrazzo have it for two years, and all the young guys be told it could be theirs if they want it. Imagine if it means Gibbs and Yarran train like Judd and Walker.
Actually, Carrazzo is the kind of captain someone like Malthouse would appoint. But for now, I think Judd will continue.

I've got no idea why Murphy was appointed captain in Judd's absence. Although given how media savvy our current President is, perhaps it's not surprising... Murph is a fantastic player but since when is that the defining characteristic of leadership?

Carrazzo, Jamison and Simpson are all far more appropriate and deserving choices in my opinion.

Harsh call on Murphy's leadership. A lot of the team follow Murphy's leadership in regards to haircuts and fashion sense.

Love Murphy as a player, but he's as boring as Pendlebury.

Keep Judd on until another captain steps up.

An injury free year from Laidler would be a good starting point for the next captain of Carlton.

Interesting listening to Leigh Matthews discussing the Carlton team on 3AW. He said that there is no doubt the team has talent but what it really lacks is some real 'grunt' leadership.

He said whilst Judd, Murphy, Gibbs even Kruezer are great players they are all introverts. I think he said only Robinson really shows that type of approach out on the ground. He said its the type of leadership that a Maxwell, J.Brown or Keiran Jack bring to a team - the ultimate example would be Vossy.

I agree with him - where do we find or how do we build this type of 'grunt' ?

Do we look outside the box - Laidler, McLean, Henderson ??

Right now I can't think of one.

There's your answer. Imagine the chemistry between Captain Kamikaze Kid and our new coach at press conferences. :D

I just watched the session on the Footy Show and I thought he handled the situation admirably. Yes, his answers are always a bit cliched and bland but in a really uncomfortable situation, and with Sam up on his horse, I thought he held his nerve, was respectful to Ratts but didn't try and run away from the piss-poor effort from the players.

His remark on 'the buck stops with the coach' was, I think ,almost an apologetic 'the players stuff up but unfortunately the coach is the one who gets the knife'.

I think he did well and I think you could see the other panelists thinking he was good as well in a tough situation.

Supposedly Mitchell has this kind of leadership flare and grunt, but there's way too much water to pass under that bridge yet.
