Hartigan seems to be right in the game today, well into the last quarter and:

15 kicks, 4 handballs, 9 marks.

Nine marks for a KP defender suggests he either reads the play well or is running out of defence to create a receiving option (amazing what you can tell from stats ;))

What a spud, hey Thommo51 ;)

Otten is back to his best form ......yet still not getting thee plaudits YET

Defensively - yes he is back to his best form.

Offensively - he has shown 30% of what he is capable of. He acknowledges it and most can see it. He is not providing enough drive off half back, nor getting to enough contests. All he is doing is shutting down his defender 1 on 1.

Hopefully - it will come sooner rather than later and then he will be getting his plaudits.

You know you've made an excessively negative call when even amer pull you up on it :D

Ah well all the power to Hartigan in hopefully carving out a decent season in what seems to be a team under siege most weeks. My hope is that he is insurance we won't need to call on this season, and that Luke Thompson gets first go at a potential KPD opening.

That's something we can agree on

One of many on our list who is just waiting to be delisted either this year or next year - L Thompson, Callinan, Tambling, Graham, Jensch, L Johnston, Lynch, McKernan, Martin, Joyce. If we are building for the future we really only have 30-32 players to choose from.

The scary thing is, thanks to Trigg/Reid, it's gonna get worse. I don't envy the job rookie coach Sanderson has in front of him the next year or so.

The club loved Hartigan's preseason and thought they were onto something. Taking a while to get into the SANFL season but something to work with for sure. Cant see L.Thompson staying after this year. Seems to be a break glass in case of emergency type.

Whether or not he should stay at years end is one thing. The issue is nobody is able to tell us whether he is contracted beyond the end of this year. Luke Thompson's future is shrouded in mystery regardless of how he performs and somebody will make themselves a BF hero (or earn a few BF credits at least...for what they are worth) by informing this list what his current contract status is. I suspect by the silence it is one year, but it could be two

There was a thread to similar effect last year. When I think of a guy like LT it reminds me there is still depth of talent down our list, despite the departures of key men. This kid is a good footballer, good size, plenty of dash and willingness to use it. I fear we may lose him. Is in limbo while Talia and Rutten hold down key posts and Otten for some reason wins favour as the third tall. Shaw is next man in when fit. I feel there's a role for this bloke in our side right now with his ability to contest hard and break lines from defense.

Is he a part of where we are trying to go? I hope he is.
Luke Thompson is a depth player - good honest trier, but lacks class. He is a backup like Graham is to Sauce.

If he goes elsewhere, so be it.

Red - perhaps delisted
Blue - probably keep - Callinan would be useful depth next year, Lynch will grow as a player if played more this year, Martin is a handy depth player - Could be traded if he wants better opportunities. We need 1st ruck back up....
Green - Trade bait, not sure if we will get anything for Tambling and may end up delisted, but the others we should be able to slightly improve our drafting position. Trading them for draft picks frees space on the list and gives us room to move.

We will possibly have Stiffy retire at the end of the season, I don't see us delisting too many as we don't have the draft picks to replace players. Experienced depth players are way better than untried rookies so we won't be delisting them. We will probably have a good tilt at a free agent so that takes one spot on the list. We might pick up 2 players in the draft and elevate one rookie to the senior list.

I tend to agree...yesterday we had a mosquito fleet....Laird, Brown and Crouch all in....probably good match ups for the Dogs and the weather, but I think LT has shown enough in his few AFL games to keep on the list. Otten was very good yesterday, but I think the conditions suited him - the slower ground played into his hands a little more than usual. Let's see how we go this week against the speed of the Carlton little blokes. (Not that LT would help too much in that regard).

He'd be handy against Andrew Walker, especially given Shaw is out and B Smith returning from a long lay off.

Nailed it
Johncock Porplyzia also.

Whether you rate LT or not (and most on this board clearly don't), we don't exactly have an abundance of KPP defenders on our team list right at the moment.

Currently in the team are Rutten, Talia and Otten. Currently out of the team are Shaw, Thompson and Siggins.

Rutten probably only has 2 years left in him (2013 & 2014). He may play on into 2015, but I wouldn't bet on it. Shaw is quite possibly just one more soft tissue injury away from being delisted - not that he lacks talent, but his body is just too fragile for AFL football.

What that means is that we can't afford to delist Thompson at the end of 2013 - and probably not in 2014 either. Thompson's position would be a lot less secure if we still had Davi$ and/or Bock, but both are long gone and with them our depth in KPP defenders. The club drafted Siggins last year, but we probably still need 1 or 2 more on the list before we can consider delisting those we already have.

I'm not calling to delist LT as we need him to cover injuries. But if he asked to be traded & we could get some value, we should not get in his way as he isn't a long-term option IMO.

LT's the perfect depth player.

If Otten, Talia or Rutten go down he's there to step in and would do a fair job. Defence is the easiest spot on the ground to have a fill in come in and play a role, especially short term.

The great thing is that there hasn't been a single time since he's been at the club where he's kept the younger Shaw or Talia out of the team.

That's right - a depth player who is being treated as a depth player! And not getting in the way of more talented players.
